Just because it's from the 99cent doesn't mean it's ok to sell mold on your food. I bought a bag of sausage pasta from the freezer. Didn't notice anything but white frost from the freezer. For home to put away and frost was gone. The frost was green mold! This was last night. I return the next afternoon. Cashier had the nerve to ask why I didn't check it before I purchased it. I said didn't you check it before putting it out the freezer? For my money back but wow. I just opened a package of hard boiled eggs. Also starting to mold in the unopened bag! Food and safety will be called on them. I'm sure they let food out for hours when they recieve it before storing it in the freezers again read more

The 99 Cents store, holds a beautiful place in my heart with lots of childhood memories, but this Sylmar location ruined that completely! I could complain about the tight parking or the odd smell when you walk in but what was most disappointing was the employee Jackie discriminating one of my family members and completely humiliating them under false pretenses. I would suggest that 99 Cents store work on educating their employees on how to address these matters in a more effective way. read more

I like this store a lot. They often have organic fruit at incredible prices. And the prices are good even on their non organic produce. Also, they are often getting things in so I when I have time I look for things that I might be interested in. Sometimes it is high end food that just has not sold well. Like chips made with coconut oil or olive oil or seaweed etc. The only complaint is the check out lines are often too long. I sometimes look at the lines and turn around at the door. they are now open till 11pm so if you go after 9pm you can bypass the lines most of the time. read more

Lines are always long, there is never enough staff or registers open. Store is never stocked or clean. You take longer to pay then get what you need, be ready to spend at least 30-40 minutes just to pay. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this 99 Cent Only store in Sylmar area. The store is huge in comparison to the Burbank store I frequent. This was my second visit to this location and it has been clean, well stocked and has a great selection of produce. YAY!! My favorite part of the store. The cashiers I've dealt with have been nothing more than amazing and pleasant. There is a large parking lot and plenty of open spots. Don't forget to bring your bags from home. They do charge for plastic bags. KUDOS to this store! read more

Was not too happy about this store opening since there was already one in the plaza and since then that store has gone out of business. This is the best dollar store in the area. Believe it or not, every dollar store has different things. This one seems to have more new items than all the others. Came to this location to get party favors for my sons class.... Good selection. Only problem is that there is about 4 registers but every time I go there's only 1-2 registers open so u always have to wait in a long line to pay. Customer service is good though. I also found an awesome hair thickening tonic made by Loreal Paris, gave it a shot... Only 99 cents, used product and it is amazing ! Smells great and gives your hair great body ! I absolutely love this store! Yes the bathroom is horrible, it's always nasty so I make sure my kids use the bathroom before we leave the house. The store has tons of affordable items and that's always nice since groceries can be pricey. However, I don't think that the corporation send enough product to the store ... it seems like they can't restock fast enough. Parking can be an issue; I was just there and witness a hit and run. So beware that the parking can be hard and unsafe. The store over all is some what well kept clean and I always find a cart which is nice. read more

Love this store! The staff are nice and friendly. They have some at the door monitoring how many people are coming into the store who also greets. The cashier at check stand (has a couple of tattoos) in the front is the BEST, she always has a good attitude and is friendly, ( you shouldn't judge a person by their looks, she's amazing). The store is always clean and organized for the most part. Good deals, I know that's it's the 99, so you have to make sure what's your getting and always look at the dates, come on it's the 99, you have to make sure, you know what store you are going into to. Extremely disappointed This is a great location that holds items that other 99 cent stores don't have. My problem with this location isn't the great store or product selection..., it's the rude and unprofessional staff they have running the place. Iv been to this location several times and I can't figure out why everyone is in such a bad mood. The first time I went with my wife felt targeted by one of the tellers because the lady was giving her nasty bad looks as if she didn't want our business. Maybe it was the way my wife dressed that day. She works in Law so she dresses very business and might have made the cashier feel some type of way. The 2nd time I came to the same location there was a lady stacking items onto the shelves and had her stack of items she was adding in the middle of the floor and she got angry when I asked if I could grab something beside her. She told me that she should be done in 10min. She easily could have said sure, stopped what she was doing and let me grab my item, but instead she decided to say no and make me wait. That's not all! The main reason I am yelping this store is because of my last encounter with this locations. On my last visit yesturday I called in to the store because I knew it was getting late and I needed to make sure they were open. Lady on the phone says they are open until 10pm. I arrived at the location at 9:55 and I watched the lady stand at the door opening and closing it as if the store is closed. As I walked up to the door, 3 people walked in, and me being the 4th. She told me after letting the other 3 inside that I can not enter. She said that she must stop letting people in, we are now closed. I explained that I'm only grabbing 2 items and that I will be extremely quick and she replied, no I'm sorry can't let anyone in anymore. I then pulled out my cell phone to show her the actual time and she refused to look and repeted several times to come back tomorrow. Can't believe that this location that has exclusive items and all these cool features but hired people that don't care about customer service to run it. GREAT SPOT! Glad they brought a 99 cent store to Sylmar! Unfortunately I do think that this will bring all the other small discount stores out of business (as one discount store in the shopping center already did close out). Came here during their "soft opening", and it looked liked it still needed more work but they still had everything I was looking for! You can't beat this place! I had a bad store experience and contacted the corporate office. I was contacted by Maria with customer services and she said I should have never had the problem. She spoke to the store manager and told me to go and talk to him directly. The store manager Giovanni was very helpful and was all about customer service and resolved the issue very satisfactorily. First off i want to thank Jose from corporate customer service for giving me confirmation that you guys do charge for helium to fill up balloons at your store. I'm guessing this is a store policy that every store is responsible to chare $.49 to customer to fill up a balloon with helium that is $1. Confirmation from a Customer Service Rep from corporate Jose and the Store Manager 422 Jose. I would like this message to be forward to the the person that that is able to send a message out to every .99 store out there about charging helium for your balloons. Me as a customer travels up and down California and pick up quick snacks or even party supplies . My concern is that I need as as customer to know that .99 cent store across California has hidden charges that are kept away from their customers. I don't mind spending the extra .49 cents if it was posted that we will be charged for helium. I pretty sure you guys have more than myself complaining about this but they probably don't have the time to write you guys. Please if you guys are charging extra for different purchases in your store please let your customers know so they will not be surprise with the hidden charges. This store is a hit or miss with the employees. Many of the cashiers who have been there for over 2 years are very friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, many new employees and recent managers are extremely rude to the elderly based on what I have seen. Except for one male manager I have seen recently named Gio or Gee, he seems to care about the store. The cashiers in the morning are exceptional, especially Elizabeth, who is so sweet to everyone. The customer service at night tends to decline, and for that reason, I would recommend going during the day. Overall they are frequently stocking though some shelf items are expired, and when I have made the night time management aware of the issue, they give a song and dance stating they will remove it, and the next day, the items are still there. I would give the store 5 stars if the new employees received a little customer service training. For that reason, my review was skewed, unfortunate because the excellent daytime employees don't get the score they deserve; a few bad apples ruin it for everyone. read more

This is for a particular experience I had today and the particular girl that checked out my order. If I hadn't seen her flirting with the cute guy she checked out just before me, I might have thought she was just born rude. However, having witnessed that I knew that she did know how to be nice, just chose to not be nice to me. Didn't bother to greet me or make eye contact when she started my order, mumbled "bags?" about halfway through (yes, my bags are there). Finished checking my order, shoved all the items and bags to the end and began the next order. When I asked if you guys no longer bagged items she replied "You didn't ask me to". I responded that I'd never had to request a checker to bag my items in my life, she started putting stuff into a bag. I grabbed the other bag and did too, with a bad taste in my mouth. People have choices, good customer service is imperative. Maybe go back and repeat that part of your training. read more
