A dive bar if I've ever seen one. A small hole in the wall place that you can easily pass by if…read moreyou don't know what your looking for. It's a small brown building with a small parking lot next to it. It's nice though that its open at 0630 so that the nightshift hospital staff can come here and decompress or send me off on my last day. First thing you notice about this place is the smell of urine from the bathrooms. You get use to it after a bit. As well as the "regulars" hanging out at the bar area. It's extremely small. Area for a pool table, some tables at the far end by the bathrooms, and a long bar counter. At least the tvs are nice and clear and big to watch games or sports as need be. There was a good 18 of us here. Prices are rediculously cheap. I'm glad they understand it's a dive bar and should thus be dive bar prices. A michelada was $4. A mimosa was $5. Bag of chips was $1. They have these sour candy shots for $4. The sour candy shots were really good. Michelada was simple. Bloody Mary mix with beer. But they were well made. I also had a crown royal apple with redbull that was really good. I don't remember how many drinks we went thru but it did the job and we were all feeling good. Customer service is good. Dude working behind the bar worked fast. I hear this place is pretty good when the sun is up, but has a pretty rough reputation at night with lots of shady people coming in at night. I definitely wouldn't come in here by my self even in the day time. But with a large group it's pretty cool. Nice and cheap. If you don't mind the urine smell and dilapidated look.

I finally got up the nerve to go in with a friend of mine on a Saturday night and while it wasn't jam packed, there was a good number of people there singing and laughing, plus they were doing karaoke! Since that first time in there, I've been back quite a few times and I've noticed a few things. 1) No one is going to let you sit alone for very long. Someone is going to come up to you and greet you and engage you in a conversation. 2) The men and women who hang out in Smokey's are some of the most wonderful people, very friendly! 3) The bartenders are some of the most welcoming and friendly people I've ever met. 4) Great selection and prices for the beer! The atmosphere is so laid back and relaxed, it's very quickly becoming my favorite place to go spend a few hours after work to just chill out and relax. Plus the taco truck right next door has amazing food! Great company, great beer, and great access to food makes this place so wonderful. I've truly never met nicer, more friendly people than I have here. Don't judge it for it's appearance, get to know the people inside. I don't regret coming here every day, the people make it so easy!

A very nice watering hole replete with a few bikers or groups of locals and not too locals hanging around for a few cold ones together. The staff was pleasant and helpful and really wanted to make our stay enjoyable. No food is served, but barbecue is in the planning.although they switched out the O'doul's NA beer for the new NA on the block, I still give the place 4 stars. The return of O'doul's and the addition of a good bbq sander or two just might get it 5 Stars from me.

This posted 13 years ago:…read more I'm not even a Bar person. I am a Karaoke person. To me, there is no bad Karaoke. Either you clap 'cause it's great, the person really tried, or just because it's OVER. The first time I went to the Brig I was impressed by some of the clientele at this rather cheesy location on Blackstone (where it has been forever) that night..... I remember one really large young lady who didn't spare the tattoos but most people were so friendly and down-to-earth that I just had to accept them, missing teeth and all. This is how it should be. NO POSERS OR HATERS ALLOWED.I felt quickly accepted, myself. After a while it feels like someone's front room...if they had a bar, pool table, dart board, jukebox, and ATM machine in it. Country. Rock. Ballads. Substituting your own lyrics. ("Turn around, barfly." Can you say "Total Eclipse of the Heart?") Joy. Peace. Karaoke. Can't we all just get along?? Oh, the Humanity....... I've seen people of every age, race, and socio-economic status at the Brig, which I happen to enjoy. Hoopties, Harleys, and Jaguars in the parking lot .The décor is interesting when you take the time to look at it and the bathrooms are clean. I always feel safe and have a great time... which is the only reason I would ever bother to go out in the first place. Joe, Donny, and Brian are the best 'tenders alive (in my humble opinion), are skilled at quickly defusing any potential "situations".....and yes, it's Brian with the Lynyrd Skynyrd T-Shirt, ZZ-Top key chain, and that world-famous Mullet. He is a DOLL and so entertaining it hurts... since you just can't stop smiling. I like Wednesdays when Doug is the K-J, and there are typically less drunks about on the street than there are on the weekends in Fresno and I don't have to feel like I'm taking my life in my hands just to get there. Lucky me, I work nights and PM's so I never have to get up early, even during the week. Doug's still working on his song selection but he's so cuddly that I just have to "Wave my Hands in the Air like I don't CARE!!" Five Star Dive Bar. Yes. Two thumbs up for The Brig. 13 YEARS AGO - what's happening now. No Donny, no Joe, no Brian, Tonya the "door gal" has now become a bartender...

It's fun to be greeted by the staff and regulars when I walk in. Bartenders know what I am drinking before I even ask. It's still like family and I wouldn't change a thing!
