So unfortunate I have to leave this bad review. We had anticipated going to this place for years. Went in on Valentine's Day 5 minutes early to our reservation for 4 and we were immediately seated at 6:25pm. Patrons sat there and stared at each other for the most part with slow service. We knew it was Valentine's Day and had expected to wait, but to be fair to us, only half of the restaurant was filled. A dark haired woman walked by around 6:45 said she was going to come take our order, then we never saw her in the dining room or bar again. We never saw anyone's order being taken while we were there. Nobody ever came by. No bread. No drinks. Nothing. Around 7:10, we left and there was a line out the door, waiting to be seated. We had friends visiting from Merced. We decided on the Bear Club for lunch. We walked in at about 1:20 and didn't receive our lunch until 2:20. There was only two other tables with customers when we came in. We had to give a presentation at 3 for a local elementary school. As soon as we received our meal we requested the check because we knew it would be close time wise. The waitress was polite, but seemed to have no sense of urgency. Of the six people at our table, only two thought their lunch was acceptable. If the lunches were satisfactory it would still be not be viable because it takes too long for meals during the work week when time is of the essence. Totally disappointed! As we were walking in a lady passed us and said good luck, I thought it was rude but had I passed someone entering while I was leaving I would have said the same! The Bear is BACK!!! The Bear Club located on the east end of Reedley, CA, a farming community is a staple of this area since 1972 and even longer than that when it started as a bar behind a grocery store. Chef Jon Koobation took over the restaurant as Head Chef in 1985! Juan Reyes (Chef & Manager) currently is running the Bear Club and it hasn't missed a beat. After COVID slowed the restaurant down it is back with most of the same menu that Jon Koobation created. I used to frequent this establishment for years when Jon had it and it was frequented by many of the fruit packers, farmers and locals in the area but there are customers from Madera to Visalia and Dinuba. This is one of the last Icons in the area. It has a good vibe with low lighting and white linen tablecloths. Very clean and nice ambiance! We came in for lunch today. The appetizers are always so good. I always order Dungeness Crab Cakes that are served over Spicy Slaw, Remoulade Sauce and avocado. The slaw is what makes it and you have to eat them together. And then the Fried Zucchini Sticks that come with Apricot-Mustard Sauce. The way they make their sauces and house-made dressing are flavorful. The Crispy Calamari Fries with Zesty Heirloom Tomato Jam is good too. I ordered a salad that came with my entree with House-made Raspberry Vinaigrette & Dry Bleu. Try their Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing that I order every time!! Server asked if I wanted fresh ground pepper- that's a +! For the entrees we ordered the 2 specials for the day, 2- Shaved Prime Rib Dip that was a perfect medium-rare tender and juicy. Pan-Seared Salmon over cream corn sauce. Also recommend Grandma Koobation's Recipe Shish Kebab! Lamb Loin Charbroiled to your temperature. On the Dinner menu is Chicken George! Grilled Chicken Breast, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, lemon beurre blanc. It is Jon's special chicken recipe first put on the menu in 1973! It has been tried to be copied by other restaurants so this is a must try here! And leave room for the House-made ice cream! The flavors are Vanilla Frangelico w/ butterfingers, Chocolate Kahlua w/ heath bar, Meyer lemon w/ candied lemon zest (My favorite!!), And Pistachio w/ candied pistachios chunks!! We have eaten there a few times. Food is excellent, but expensive for the portions. The service was very good. The ambiance is great.

Quiet, nice place to enjoy dinner without tons of people. You can actually have a conversation without shouting! Food is good and definitely try the shish kabob even if you're not a lamb fan... it is delicious!!! You won't be sorry! Salmon (any way they serve it there) is also very good! Chicken George is also a super good choice!! And one of the few places you can still get a baked potato, loaded!! They do need to experiment with other veggies besides asparagus... which is about the only vegetable they serve. Maybe roast some root veggies, or try a carrot puree... even some steamed FRESH green beans with herb butter and shallots ... ANYTHING but asparagus for a change. read more

I don't write bad reviews often. I remembered this place was amazing back in the day. Made a reservation and took my family here for Valentine's Day. The restaurant wasn't that busy in the grand scheme of things. We were seated right away. We saw a number of workers walking around in a disorderly fashion, not really helping people. We saw a number of guests just looking around, board waiting for service. We ended up walking out after 45 minutes without ever having our order taken. Never offered drinks other than water. I have been to the Bear Club many times and today I was truly disappointed. Came in for lunch with a friend ordered the "special" of Cajun Shrimp Salad. I asked the server what comes on the salad and she says lettuce, corn, tomatoes and shrimp. Well when my salad arrives it is almost smaller than their house salad they serve. On top of that the price was $17.95! There was noting Cajun about the shrimp either, basically just grilled and no spicy flavor at all. Onions or another additional item would have been nice. A truly boring, overpriced salad. My friend had her usual Cobb Salad that was also missing some ingredients and has tortilla strips on it. Both of our salads had black old lettuce on them. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Of course, I did my due diligence beforehand and tried to check out their website, but it's not fully functioning, so I was sketchy. As soon as I walked in, I was blown away. The staff is very friendly and give the best service. I tried the lunch special, chicken pesto sandwich, and it did not disappoint. Fancy, expensive, authentic... the Bear Club is one of the best restaurants here in the valley by far! We went for the Brunch and got to meet one of the owners/Chefs. Not only is everything homemade there but the selection of meats they offer is all locally sourced and of the highest quality. Plus their prices are low! Compared to other high end restaurants that don't nearly achieve as much as Bear's, having their food be affordable is the real seller. My son saw the bear club on yelp and said hey dad we ought to try this place out sometime. So when the wife wanted to go out for dinner that night, we decided to try the bear club, even called my son to join us. So the place is older, quaint, cozy and clean. The jalapeño margarita was really good, the pork knuckle was excellent, the house salad with wet and dry blue cheese was very good. My son steak was also very good and cooked properly. My wife's calamari steak was good, however not as good as some she has had, therefore the 4 stars. With that said, we would still recommend you try this unique cozy restaurant sometime, we will be going back. read more

As good as it gets! A family favorite for years. Sister and I took our 94 year old mom to the Bear Club for dinner Friday night. What's not to like about the Bear Club. Tabitha, our server seated us, parked our mom's walker nearby. She highlighted the menu; we knew what what we wanted; garlic-lemon salmon, one of the specials. Salads were refreshing, ingredients were fresh. Salmon arrived just as we ordered, moist and flaky. Nice portion of vegetables, mashed potatoes and a hearty piece of salmon. Delicious! Mom and I tried their home made ice cream, nice way for finish off our meal. Throughout our meal, Tabitha was attentive, but not hovering. Time to depart Tabitha retrieved moms walker and away we went. All of us look forward to dining again at the Bear Club. read more

I've gone here and had great experiences, but I've also gone and had experiences that were just ok. Mostly though, it's been pretty good. The food has always been tasty. The steaks are nicely cooked. The ice cream for dessert is always delicious. The service is usually good, with servers always being friendly and courteous. If your party is more than about 5-6 people, though, the service can seem lacking. I have been there twice with larger parties, and it seems they don't designate an adequate amount of servers to handle the demand from the group. The ambiance is pleasant, fairy quiet, and enjoyable. One thing to keep in mind is that they're closed between lunch and dinner. Make sure to check their hours before stopping in. The bar is pretty small. It doesn't really have its own area. There is seating right up at the bar top, and immediately behind those seats is the path for servers and dining patrons, so you're going to have people constantly walking right behind you. All other seating is at dining tables. Overall, it's a nice, quiet place to enjoy a good meal with friendly service. read more

The Bear Club is back and even the bar is popular again. When visiting the northern part of Tulare County, or southern Fresno County dining options are minimal. Jon sold his Bear Club in Reedley a few years ago. It at first slipped a bit. Maybe because Jon took all of his paintings. Even the large LeRoy Neiman cocktail scene that was in the middle of the room. But we tried it just after Christmas and were delighted the chef has improved their salads, and the quality of the steaks. Had not been there for 20 years when my wife and I along with another couple decided that it was time to go there again as we would be in town again. I was a regular there back in the 1980's and moved away and only frequented the restaurant when I would come to visit my Grandfather. The establishment has changed owners a couple of times since, but from the lunch we enjoyed obviously the standards have not. I had a Black and Blue burger and I will tell you that there are only a couple of places I have been to throughout the United States that can put together a burger this good. We all enjoyed our meals and the menu was exceptional and conservatively priced. Our hostess, of whom I remember from when I used to go there regularly was still there and just as dedicated and caring about your eating experience as she was 35 years ago when I first met her. And to top all this, I phoned in the reservation a week earlier and when we arrived they already had the table "formally" set for us along with glasses of iced water and bread. Not the usual "your reservation will be ready in a 20 minutes". They were actually expecting us and to not have us be burdened with a wait. Now that we have returned to the Valley, we will try to get over there at least once a month and I will recommend that my Veterans Motorcycle Club make this a way-point on our rides as well as anyone who asks me if I know a good restaurant. read more
