We bought an extra vehicle and found it needed more than a new key fob battery. Having been in the auto industry I asked a colleague and he recommended this place. Communication off top was difficult as they hardly answer the phone. But finally I was able to secure a Saturday morning appointment. Nice people but from my experience unable to establish if I even had the correct remotes I had bought, then even more confusion when once I agreed to a $108. programming they couldn't do it, nor could they get my vehicle started again. In summary, they had to call in the previous owner, Art, and his wife who were excellent at assisting and eventually getting my vehicle to start again, yet 3 to 4 hours later. I am unhappy because I was told to get the correct remote, which I did, and when calling to set up a time for programming and finalizing our agreement, was told I would have to pay another $85. in addition to what I had already paid! Wow. And called a liar in the process! Ouch. I would be careful with these nice people as they obviously need more time in learning the ways of automotive key programming. Or how to at least qualify which cars they can program, and if those cars have the prerequisites needed for them to do their job. Very important. Thank you. read more

Ever since the Preston's sold this business it's gone down hill. I've been in a few times and the new owners are very rude and don't seem to want to keep the business that the Prestons once did. I went in today and the door was locked, a guy with long hair came to the door and opened it. I said, "Hi, how are you?" And he rudely nodded his head at me. Another customer had walked in right behind and me said something brief to him in which he had no response. I said, "Are you too busy or what?" And he threw his hands up and said, "Well it's my lunch break". I said, "Enjoy your lunch then bud" and walked out. Keep in mind, there was a second employee sitting in the back as well so they could've easily rotated lunch breaks. If they truly don't want the business, which it clearly seems like they don't, then put a sign up or just politely say we'll be back open in 30 minutes etc. Don't ever treat customers the way this new ownership has because they lost my business and I will make it a point to discourage anyone from stepping foot in there. After waiting 7 months for a chip key for my 93 Caddy the key came in. The ignition switch had been replaced and at that time they only had 1 key. When I went in for key #2 I drove my car down to the shop and they cut the second, it didn't work, they did something to and it still didn't work, low and behold the key I had been using for 7 months, the same key I used to drive it down there stopped working too. They tried all afternoon, I left it there and went back the next day and nothing. They gave me some song and dance and long story short my car was disabled by them and I had to have it towed home. $100.00, had to have the ignition switch replaced again, $500.00, and they refuse to accept any responsibility. He had an unfortunate incident with his car key, and it could not be retrieved...and it was the only one. The key has a chip in it, so I figured it was going to be wildly expensive and take a lot of time to obtain a new key. When I spoke to the dealership, they told me that I had to have the car towed to them, and then they would do the work...it was going to be VERY expensive. The service person gave me the name of A-1-A and said that I'd probably have better luck with them. I was able to do the entire transaction over the phone...no trip to Merced...and it was all taken care of in less than an hour! Went in today I showed them that my chipped car key was extremely worn down. Instead of getting a new chipped key and having to program it they took the old chip key and transferred the chip over. Chrysler Sebring.. chipped key.. broken.. went to ohrileys.. they sold me a new lock cylinder with keys.. installed it.. started right up then turned off imediatly after.. ripped the transponder out of the old key and tried taping it to the new key.. didn't work . Called the.local Chrysler dealer.. they said théy would reset the alarm for $180.. couldn't afford that plus towtruck cost to get it there.. took both pieces of broken key and transponder to A-1 locksmith on Broadway (across from Atwater pawn shop) in Atwater expecting to spend around $180.. She took my broken key and and we started chatting a bit the next thing I know she hands me one plain key with no transponder for unlocking the car and getting into trunk only.. and in a moment she made a new key with my old transponder in it and the whole thing took about 10 or 15 minutes and charge me 60 bucks it was well worth it I give her five stars very nice lady.. really knows her stuff and I left here with a smile because I was treated well, with respect and she was very direct and to the point with her work she wasted no time I would recommend that Smith shop to anyone and everyone after 3 months of trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with my car she was very quick about sending me down the road with my new key read more

Never going to waste my time with these guys again. I needed a new key for my Honda called in the morning and was told that he was at the dentist and will get back to me after. Than he never called me back so I had to call back, than I was told that they were gonna be out for lunch and won't be back til 2( I called him at 12 like really who takes 2 hour lunches) finally got a hold of the owner at 2 and was told they will be coming and should be at my house in about 45min-1hr. 2 hours later I called and nobody picked up my call and I never got a call back. I ultimately was fed up and decided to not take their business, if this is how they choose to run their business than I shall take my business elsewhere. It's a no go for me. After cutting a key we brought in they told my husband he had to put it in the key fob. Then I had to make a second trip to the shop. The programmer was out of the office.
