Battery problems on a Saturday, ugh! A1 battery on Union was AWESOME! I called them 5 minutes before they opened and talked to J.R. He assured me he had a battery that would fit my car and could change out the corroded cable. I pulled up, and a technician named Eedwin walked out and greeted me with a smile, and started diagnosing the issue right away. J.R. and Eedwin went straight to work, pulling out the old battery and replacing it with the new. The AAA representative had mentioned that I needed a specific type of battery, which was only available at the dealership, but J.R. (and later my mechanic) assured me that wasn't the case. J.R. made sure I had the correct battery for my car and even cleaned the battery housing as well. I was there for less than 10 minutes, and everything was under $200, when AutoZone was going to charge me $250 just for the battery! (no install). Time will tell how well the battery does (they gave me a 5-year warranty - 1 year full replacement, the remainder is prorated price for a new battery) but so far, I'm happy with my service. I hadn't driven my 3 year old GMC pickup for 4 days, and when I went out to hook up the horse trailer the battery was dead. I called Motor City Service department and twice no one picked up the phone. I jumped the truck and drove over only to be told they could not install a battery on Saturday. I'd love to tell you how bad their service department is, but this is a review for A-1. I drove over to the S. Union location (there are 3 A-1 locations). They checked the alternator, then the battery. He said the battery was registering good on his meter. But, because we haul horses, I didn't want to take a chance. While Sean and I took care of the paperwork, the other tech (damn, I am blanking on his name) installed the new battery. In 15 minutes I was on my way. The man checking me out looked it up and told me the old one still had some warrantee left on it and adjusted the price. I didn't even ask him to. Not only did they charge me $200 + for a battery that sent my car to the dealership IMMEDIATELY after for numerous diagnostic codes , they claimed to be the only company in California that doesn't give core recycling reimbursement. Never will I again ever do business with the thieves at A1 Battery on south Union Ave. I paid for their best battery with a 3 year warranty. The battery was defective in less than 90 days from being purchased. Both the employee & the manager indicated there would be a pro rated fee if they determined their battery has gone bad & if my charging system wasn't the cause. These two idiots have taken advantage of many customers as a routine. Their BS didn't fly with me and their arguments were unjustified bc they hadn't even seen under my hood yet. The fat head manager said I needed to bring back their battery fully charged for them to check it... It was fully charged pre arrival @ 6 miles traveled to get there. Not even attempting to hide their intentions to scam me out of more money after buying their battery 3 months earlier. Maybe other A1 locations are reputable but after dealing with the CLOWNS @UNION AVE I WOULDNT TAKE THAT CHANCE. THOSE TWO GUYS SHOULD BE FLIPPING BURGERS SOMEWHERE ELSE ON UNION AVE. I really like this company because they go out of their way to find the battery for your car. They also offer a service if your battery light turns on. We just needed a simple replacement and we didn't even stay five minutes. The warranty we got lasts 4 years but they do have another one that lasts 5. don't ever lose your receipt otherwise the staff will not be helpful at all. Eventually got my battery replaced, but the staff at A1 made me feel less than a person when doing it because I had lost my receipt from two years ago. I asked why it was not in the computer, and the managers response was we told you to keep your paper receipt. eventually, he was able to print another receipt for the replacement battery with the original date of my first purchase which apparently he knew all along. I will never go there again very poor customer service and support. read more

Park your car, the service person comes out (Andrew in this case) with a rolling tool cart & checks the battery and/or charging system. Was advised my 6+ year old battery had a dead cell in it; consequently, it wasn't holding a charge. Andrew stated the batteries available for my vehicle as well as their price and warranty. After answering a few questions, he removed the old battery, carried it inside, carried the new battery out and installed it. Total time 15-20 minutes maximum. As a stereotypical female, I have little to no idea on the costs of car repairs. Luckily, my SO is a killer mechanic and quieted my hysterics when my car wouldn't start with educating me on how a car battery works. Enter A1 Battery, at 3 local locations on all different sides of Bakersfield. Fantastically, one is right on my way home. The parking lot is long and narrow against the street rather than deep. There are 2 or 3 entrances in case the first half of the lot is filled. I pulled right in and wasn't sure if I should exit my vehicle or stay inside as a couple other cars had employees at them. Looking back, one employee was just having something dropped off to him haha. Luckily again, an employee promptly carted over a battery tester and asked me to pop the hood of my vehicle. In less than a minute, he had the battery diagnosed as bad (it wasn't holding a charge at home, so that's what we figured anyways). He directed me to head inside where my paperwork would be. The shop is a regular ole mechanic shop. I like it. I stepped up to the counter and another employee greeted me and got me rang up! Paying: did you know if you battery goes bad before its "supposed" to, they will prorate the cost for you?! I did not and I was VERY pleasantly surprised with the $45 price tag for my brand new (charged) battery! He did tell me the heat here in Good ole Bako is hard on batteries so expect to come in every 2-3 years. I have a car that I seldom drive and it had one of A1's batteries in it. When the battery stopped working I jumped the car off and took it up there expecting to buy a battery. They looked at the battery which was still under warranty. The new battery pro-rated cost me $30. As I was unaware that they battery was still under warranty, they could have sold a new one. But they are honest here, and I will buy other batteries here I am sure. read more

I am only giving 1 star because I have to. I am livid. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB. I will be having you investigated by every entity possible. I had my alternator replaced at your POS facility about a month ago. On Monday April 23, 2018, I was driving from Bakersfield to Mammoth Lakes. Approximately 2.5 hours into the drive, I hear an odd noise under my car, and suddenly it is over heating. I pull over. In the middle of the damn desert with three teenagers in my car. WE WERE STRANDED THERE FOR EIGHT HOURS. It cost over $450 to have my car towed. My mechanic looked and saw the Serpentine belt was missing. Turns out the ALTERNATOR BRACKETS WERE NEVER PROPERLY SECURED and they came apart!! The Serpentine belt broke because of this. But here is the kicker folks... THE ALTERNATOR WAS HANGING BY 3 WIRES!!! It gets even better!! THE LIVE WIRE THAT CONNECTS THE ALTERNATOR TO THE BATTERY WAS DANGLING!!! We allll know, well maybe not the a$$holes at A1, but everyone else knows what happens when a live wire hits the ground. You better believe this will not just go away. I just purchased a new battery (from A-1) for my elderly mother's Lexus. Everyone else charged $120-$160 and up. I paid $89.00 plus tax for a maintenance-free battery with a 4-year warranty. The mechanic (Guillermo) was professional and knowledgeable. He tested the old battery in front of me to show that it no longer held a charge. I will never go anywhere else but there (1230 S.
