I have been with A1 for almost 20 years and have NEVER had a problem with any of the drivers, the crew or the operations / administrative staff. Quite the opposite in fact - the Drivers and Servicemen are professional and courteous and the admin / ops staff have always been able to answer my questions and address my concerns quickly. The ladies that man the phones are ALWAYS cheerful, helpful and professional as well. I think many folks do not actually read the many emails they send out that pertain to service requirements and schedule changes - either that or they are not signed up to receive the messages. I think the first start of the problem was I immediately had my trash can removed from my property. I called them up and asked them what was going on and they said they don't service my house. I was very confused. They then stated they haven't serviced my house for two years. I then stated you've been picking up my trash. I'm confused then they told that they haven't been charging me and that I need to pay in full in order to get my service back. So they had my current address, they had my email, bother to tell me that there was an issue with billing. It was a lot of money. I was basically in tears because I first time homebuyer, but they never sent me any bills or anything. OK so that got fixed. This is now the second week that they haven't picked up my trash. They're generally on time and I haven't had any payment issues yet, but you aren't paying for quality with this company. The cans usually get tossed into the ditch for some reason and customer service is generally rude and unhelpful. The pickup teams come a little inconsistently, arriving usually in a 3 hour window. On the days you forget to put the can out the night before, hope they dont show up early. I am disabled and waiting on disability, so I slacked paying my bill however, made an effort to get caught up. I called and explained the reason for my delinquency and paid half what I owed and gave a date to pay the other half. The woman I spoke to said yea you're good. So, Monday comes around and they didn't pick up my trash. So, I call and tell the woman hey I paid half my balance and was told I was good to go and explained the conversation I had had Friday, and she tells me well they are sick of people not paying their bills. She was snappy and rude. Told me she'd leave a note for a manager. This morning, Tuesday, I see NO ONE had their trash collected on my road. Cancelled my service with them since their online billing was a hassle and my payments never went through. They continued to bill me two months after I cancelled. If you leave both your trash and recycling out together, they will dump the recycling with the trash. Kind of sad to see that happen. After Using these fools for many years they once again didn't pickup my can. I immediately called them and they just kept giving totally lame lies for excuses. First it was too close to the mailbox (8'+), next it was that it wasn't out when they went by (was out at midnight same as every week), then it wasn't close enough to the road (between the ditch and the road surface). Their response was that if I didn't like it, I could just find another company, I will! If I could write a review without a single star, I would. Looking for a new trash company ASAP! I don't know what happened over the last couple of years but they have been spilling trash outside of the can and leaving it! But if they miss a trash day and you have overage, they will leave the trash bags outside the trash! Their trash days and actual pick are inconsistent especially if it's a holiday. If I could give them a zero, I would. VERY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE! When I started, the service it was cheaper, so I went with them. I signed up for pickup 2xs a week, which changed to one on their side because gas went crazy understood. Then it went from Monday to Tuesday. No notice just changed. Okay, not so bad. Then one week it's Wednesday, one it's Tuesday, then they just didn't pick up. It's Thanksgiving week, I tried to call on Wednesday, but there was no answer. So I called Friday, the trashcan is so full I can't get rid of the house trash. I asked if they were going to pick up today because it wasn't picked up, she told me they picked up in my area, I told her no, everyone's trash is overfull in my neighborhood and they needed to come pick up our trash, she said ma'am we picked up and you won't be picked up again. I told her well, if you can say you picked up without really doing it, I'll just say I paid and won't do it. She got upset and said, "Well, we will just pick up your can and stop service.....WHAT SERVICE?" You didn't provide the service I've paid for. She hung up on me. So I called back to cancel my service, she asked me if my can was empty......what part of you didn't pick up my trash don't you understand, well no, its not empty because you never picked up my trash, with that she got angry and said when it's empty we will pick up the can....I told her she was the rudest person I've ever talked to and she hung up for the 2nd time. In the 60+ years I've been on this earth, I have never spoken to someone in the service industry who relys on customers for their business to be so rude. Seeing all the trash cans being tipped over after they were partially dumped With loose trash still inside them is beyond frustrating. Especially when the trash blows over to your yard in the streets ,trees, gutters and everywhere else .Upon calling the company this is apparently the right way they do business they will dump the trash and leave the can tipped over on its side this is absolutely ridiculous. They claim it is in their policy that all trash that's being put in the bin is bagged but this "rule" wont prevent them from dumping the bin and leaving the trash everywhere.I called to complain that the bins were all tipped over and trash was in my yard I was told to take it up with my neighbors. I was completely stunned. the manager told me that putting the cans on the side was the proper way They leave the cans after dumping the only way to prevent this is to call and have a special request that they leave the can right side up. This sounds absolutely ridiculous but it is true. This company is just twisted. I Ask the manager If the trash was not properly bagged in the can why are they dumping it. Been in Jacksonville since 2000. Experienced 3 sanitation companies. The worse been The newest company in town, Waste Management out of Baltimore. They came in & bought 2/3 of the competition. The 1st thing they did was raise monthly prices & only collect recycling every other week in my area. Now I'm not saying M-1 is perfect. But what company is? But for the cost of $25 a month, I still get weekly trash & recycling pick up on different days. When I see my collection team. They are polite & are Will to answer any sanitation questions I might have. Unless it's a federal holiday. They collet my waste on that date as short handed as they are. They are doing an outstanding job collecting our waste that is allowed to be collected by the County. The company is currently going through a growing spell. My trash can cracked during the hurricane. We called to let them know and they never brought a new trash can for us. Today the trash man stopped me to tell me he isn't picking up my trash because my can is cracked. Mind you it's been cracked for over a year. So I am paying for a service and my trash is left at the curb. I have tried 15 times in the last hour to call them to tell them that they can come pick up my can ( full of trash) and we will no longer use their service or lack there of, phone is busy every time. This is the absolute worst trash service. My recycling hasn't been picked up in months and every time I call to ask why they tell me that I am putting it out on the wrong day. They can't seem to agree on what day it comes though. The last time I called, I was trying to explain that I have been putting my bin out on the day they told me to and that my recycling still isn't getting picked up and the woman on the phone just hung up on me. I had been a loyal customer with A-1 since my home was built in 2001. They have fallen off in service, miss pick up days not by one day but up to 5 days. Emails, phone calls, messages and letters all unanswered. The only reason I give A-1 THREE stars is because the sanitation workers do a great job, BUT their office SUCKS. You can never get a hold of anyone about your bill, the phone is constantly busy. I haven't received a bill from them in about 4 or 5 months and I keep calling to see what my balance is and to see where my bill is. We got a hold of them once about 3 months ago and they told us our bill was in the mail. We never got it. So now, I just pay them the same amount at the same time every month. I have no idea if what I'm paying is actually what I owe or if it's even getting there on time. I don't have time to sit and call a business all day long. The sanitation workers are very nice and feel bad that they work for such an unsatisfactory company. A-1 Marine Sanitation is difficult to get ahold of - the phone is busy quite often and when it is not busy, it is usally difficult to get someone on the phone. They have frequently missed our house for trash and recycling. When someone did answer the phone and I inquired why they had missed our trash yet again, they said they didn't know.
