I have been "ghosted" by Alex as some of these other reviewers state. He did fine on my relatively simple taxes, but I very much needed tax information about my upcoming retirement issues. He said he would do a forecast of my tax burden for retirement time... he never did , even after I brought it up several times. He eventually said "just go look the info up online, you should be able to figure it out". I have not heard back from him about this issue or about scheduling an appt for my 2019 taxes....emailed twice. Last year when I showed up to pick up my finished tax forms to file, he wasn't there. I drove 40 miles to the appt and when I called him he said "oh, I thought it was next week". I am not one to get my appointments mixed up, so this was on him. No apologies...acted kind of annoyed that I called him. I cannot recommend this man....I see that others have done alright by him, but several reviewers had similar issues to mine. read more

Alex has done a wonderful job on 5 years of back taxes and corporate returns. We were quite worried when we came to him, but after providing him with the information he requested Alex began to work on the monumental task and as he did we received regular updates and emails with questions until the project was done. It didn't take long at all and the professionalism and attention to detail that he provided has eased our minds greatly. His fees were more than fair and it is a pleasure to work with him. Alex has been doing my personal and corporate taxes since 2016. He seemed like a good guy and initially there were no issues. Over time his responses to emails and phone calls became more flaky. This year he completely failed to file the corporate taxes despite having promised two weeks before the deadline that they would be filed on time. This was in response to an email I had sent him concerned that the taxes had not yet been filed. He was provided with all of the paperwork needed two months before the deadline. Now he is not returning phone calls or emails and when I drop by his office it is always closed. And he was paid $650 in advance. I am sure there will be penalties for having not submitted the corporate taxes on time. I will update this review when I know the dollar amount. In the meantime, I have to scramble to find a new tax person to get our taxes done. I would guess that there will be additional costs to fix the mess he made. Others on Yelp have complained of similar problems with Alex. I can't imagine anyone choosing to take the financial risk that comes when working with Alex. read more

We typically use a CPA firm in Oregon but unfortunately our guy had a medical issue (never showed up for the appt), hence unable to do my taxes along with four other families (we get together every year for the past 10 years). Wanted to write another review since I just received another tax penalty. My new CPA said I should be going after Alex and the A & L CPA Group for these fees. Im pissed. I just paid $1400.69 penalty a couple of weeks ago and just got another one for $3033.57. Nothing like paying penalties because my CPA doesnt know what they are doing. Such a joy to be dealing with this crap during a pandemic. If you look through my yelp reviews, I usually dont write bad reviews. I like to praise places that do good work. I could not hold back from sharing this info on these guys. Alex just stopped responding to me and now I know why. They totally F-up my taxes and I am now paying the price. Alex comes across as very responsive and organized. His website is great and easy to upload information. I was looking for a new CPA and tried him out this year. My taxes were not complicated. He made numerous errors on my return, despite us meeting in person and going over everything line by line. There were basic simple errors that I caught (and I'm not a CPA or in finance). It took me 4 hours going through my return line by line comparing it to previous years to find all the errors. He also states that his flat fee includes any tax related questions for the tax year. After my return was complete I asked him about my federal allowances. We exchanged numerous emails and kept saying he'd get to it. After 2 months I have given up as he just stopped answering my emails. I would avoid his services. He doesn't come through with his promises and is careless with his work. read more

Alex has done my taxes for a couple of years. If you just need someone to do your taxes, he might be your guy. Anything beyond that - look elsewhere. He's not consultative or particularly good at helping you understand where you are and ways to improve your tax burden in the years to come. Likewise, and most concerning, we refinanced our house in 2019 and several questions emerged regarding our tax filings and how income was reported from some rental properties. The loan officer, underwriter and I all tried to call and email Alex, multiple times - he did not answer or respond, he ghosted us. Alex is no longer our tax guy. read more

He made sure I got the maximum deductions that I could get, guiding me through the process. My previous accountant just wanted me to mail all the records and without any questions would file them. 1. Alex never filed the paperwork to make my company an S-Corp (I paid for the service and it was never done properly) 2. Alex claimed to be working on my S-Corp return last month. When I finally called the IRS to find out whether he had even filed the return (he never sent me confirmation and stopped answering emails, phone calls, etc) they said they had no record of a 2015 tax return. They also said my LLC wasn't registered as an S-Corp. As a result, my taxes for 2015 are COMPLETELY screwed. I had to scramble to find a new accountant. He clearly knew he screwed up. I am completely disgusted with this company. At least have the decency to respond to emails to say that you never filed my tax return. I called the board to report him, but it turns out Alex Lerner isn't even licensed as a CPA. I would have never used him if I knew that. Avoid at all costs. In addition to being completely incompetent, he ignores your emails weeks at a time and does not answer your questions. read more

My return was pretty simple this year, but I had a few important questions. Alex was very responsive by e-mail in setting me up with the portal and a phone appointment.
