I made a tax appointment on April 1 for May 6. When I scheduled it, I told the office it was to prepare 2025 taxes for my mother and for a trust she has. When I arrived today, I met with a man named Oscar. I told him I was there to file taxes for my mother and for her trust. For some reason, Oscar asked me when my mother died -- she's still alive. Then he told me he couldn't do a trust return. When I asked why they'd booked an appointment for a trust return if they don't handle trust returns, Oscar blamed his assistant. This is despite the fact that "trust income tax preparation" is listed as a specialty on this very Yelp page. So now I have to start from scratch -- find a new tax professional and book another appointment, probably a month out. This is incredibly inconvenient, and it was easily avoidable. The worst part is that it's going to cost me real money. The delay between when the trust taxes should have been filed and when they actually will be filed is going to increase late payment fees and penalties. Okay, so now that I have received my state refund finally I figured I can leave my review about this guy. The location is easy to get to, and I can say he was really quick on inputting all my information in. But to be honest, all my years of getting my taxes done, I've never dealt with someone who is so unprofessional. My tax lady I used for 15 plus years retired, so I found Robert because he had good reviews, and one of my friends used him a few years ago. So, my taxes were done. Clearly, he has all my forms, and yes, I looked over them and signed that all was correct. The federal refund was showing on the franchise tax board, and so did the state. I received my federal government within a week, so I was happy. Well, a month went by, and my state was no longer showing. I reached out to Oscar via email and phone. No response. It was no longer showing on the franchise site. After a few times texting him, he responds with the link and tells me I can check the status there. That's it. I told him it doesn't come up anymore. This guy gets paid to help people do their taxes, so any inconvenience after the fact he does not care. He ignored my questions and refused to respond to me. So basically, he took my money after inputting my tax information. Forget helping people with questions as to why a refund was not issued, let alone imagine if you got audited. So I called the franchise, and they stated the numbers don't add up to my W2s, which I had multiple forms. Since he did not answer any calls/texts, I drove to his place of business. I walked in and told him I was trying to contact him, so why ignore me. I told him the franchise stated they are holding my refund because my W2 amount doesn't match up. This guys response "Well you signed for it." He had customers there which I could careless they should know he won't help if any issues arise after doing your taxes. So I told him that signing was not the issue. The forms you sent may have not all gone through. He was not willing to help me get to the bottom of it. I would not recommend this guy at all. No tax person I've worked with has ever left me or anyone I know hanging when something came up. There are better Tax people out there that actually do what they get paid to do. Oscar was great with my taxes 1st two years I used him. Then for 3rd year of filings, he just fell apart. I had worked for 8-months out of that year for 2 different employers with 4-month break in middle. I uploaded all relevant documents for both employers (W2s, etc.). I received a CP2000 form this year and was having difficulty finding a professional that had availability to help me before my deadline of 12/30. When I reached out to Oscar (whom a coworker had previously used), he replied within the same day and quickly laid out everything we would need to do to get started. He provided a secure client portal through Intuit where I could upload all my documents, which was super helpful as I'd prefer not to meet face to face during covid. Even with the holidays this week, he was so responsive to my emails, made time to complete a 1040 amendment for me, and then discussed options for us to ensure that we could file it in time for our deadline and as another or how to request an extension from the IRS, if we wanted to review things further.
