Be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait....just for a rabies shot, from the vet technician. We had an appointment and waited 55 minutes; others in the waiting area were equally annoyed. It's thoughtless and disrespectful. I understand that emergencies happen, and I also know a receptionist can call and let me know to come in later or reschedule. I have been taking my two dachshunds to "A Country Vet" for their whole lives....one is now 14 and one is almost 11 "A Country Vet" used to be an actual "country vet" in a small brick house along Market Street with Dr Dan who originally saw both of my dogs. It has become corporate and along with that comes all the problems that arise with corporations unfortunately. The vets Dr Kalwa and Dr Gray are both nice and are the reason I am giving the two stars rather than just one. I have had several incidences with the front desk....they will no longer work with you, they are not helpful, they give attitude, and have stopped carrying the flea and natural allergy medication my dogs take. This latest incidence was the final straw for me. My dogs take the 6 month heartworm injection and were due to receive it yesterday so I hurried home from work and got them and rushed over so they could take the test and get the injection before they closed....when I got there the girl at the front desk had an attitude and was like hold on so we sat down for awhile to wait.....then she came out and was like they have to have an annual exam before they take the test or get the shot. She said they were due for the exam that day but I had no clue because they do not inform you or remind you or schedule you for upcoming appointments. So I asked when could they get an annual exam and she said two weeks away to which I replied but they are due for the heartworm shot today. The whole reason they receive the heartworm shot is because they throw up the tablet so awhile back Dr Kalwa suggested the shot instead. She said they could prescribe them a 30 day pill for the two weeks and then they could get the 6 month shot when they come back for the exam in two weeks.....mind you they both had their teeth cleaned in November and December and had to do complete lab work ups and were both declared fit for surgery. My girl dog needed an appointment to have a bump on her eyelid looked at so I was going to schedule an appointment while I was there anyhow but the whole attitude of the girl at the desk just didn't sit right with me so I told her that I would go look for another actual "country vet" that will work with me. You can never get in, it takes hours to be seen on most walk ins and the attitude of the front desk is ridiculous so I am done with the policies of "A Corporate Vet" since I know the difference because I actually grew up in rural NC read more

We have used this vet service for many years, and got a notice that our 12 year old cat needed a vaccination. We called 3 times to try and get an appointment. NO RESPONSE, so I took the cat there to try and get a walk-in. The front desk folks were NOT friendly or helpful, seemed confused and a bit agitated. When I told the young lady that I was there as a response to our notice of the needed vaccination, she told me that before the cat could get the shot, they would need to give the cat an annual examination, at a cost of an additional $78.00. When I asked why, I was informed that it " was corporate policy". I tried to restate that this was a 12 year old cat that was not sick, and just needed her 3 year updated vaccination. I got the same "it is corporate policy" statement. Heading to Vetco (part of Petco), for her vaccination. A few months ago our 13 year old standard poodle, Markita, had to be put to sleep. We had had them try helper and they discovered that she had lung cancer. After a week at home with Markita we realized that with all her pain that it was time to let her go. We called their office and made arrangements to be at their office the next morning. This was heart breaking for us. They were so gentle and treated Markita as if she was theirs. Dr Silos was amazing. Gently handling Markita all the time explaining what he was doing and why. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to get an emergent appointment on wednesday for my dog copper and left there spending almost half a grand and a dog whelping in pain while we wait for lab results for up to 5 days. I attempted to follow up with the vet's office regarding alternative pain management for my 12-year-old dog, Copper, who is in clear distress from an ear infection. During the call today, the receptionist placed me on hold to speak with the vet. I was informed that prednisone was still the only option available. I explained to the receptionist that my dog has exhibited extreme behavioral side effects from prednisone, including aggression toward my 2-year-old child while food-guarding. I was told--incorrectly--that "steroids do not cause aggression," a claim that contradicts established veterinary pharmacology literature. When I suggested they research this, I was dismissed. Copper's symptoms are the entire reason we brought him in, he is in clear and constant pain, yet I have been denied access to any appropriate alternative treatments or broad-spectrum antibiotics while awaiting lab results. Lab results are the only option for them, they are refusing immediate palliative pain management or home-remedy guidance or alternatives. We have been customers since 2021, service has declined ever since. As many have stated the front desk service is horrible, who barely want to get off their phones to acknowledge customers, are rude, or have a care less attitude. We have two dogs, the first has been misdiagnosed at least 2 times, which required major surgery (at a different vet) 1st event was severe limping, was told it could be arthritis and given meds, after months of no change pushed the dr to give referral. She was diagnosed with ACL and needed surgery. After recovery she was better than normal. 2nd misdiagnose she had an infected nail, was told this was normal and given antibiotics. It kept getting worse, so we went to the emergency vet and was diagnosed with bone erosion that required amputation. After recovery she was normal again. The other dog has been diagnosed from different vet, pancreatitis and requires special low fat food. The vet has given us a new Rx for the food when needed. In July when updating their rabies vac I specifically asked about their heartworm preventative meds expiring in December and what was needed to update, was advised to just make apt. After about 4 different attempts to get someone on the phone - (their 'online' apt scheduler doesn't work and no one picks up the phone). I was in the area and walked in and requested an apt to get the meds updated, was told to 'just walk in' . Today went in and requested the heartworm testing ect, and while waiting asked for a new Rx for the diet food, explaining the issue at the pet store when trying to get the food. I was given a copy of the Rx and told that should work if there were any issues have them call. After results came back for heartworm test I asked about the Rx, was told they wouldn't release it until I had an exam done, and the next apt was 3 weeks away. I then asked why they didn't tell me before I had all the test done and was told, that's just our new policy. Scheduled the apt as it was the only way to get the Rx. Went straight to get dog food and was refused by the pet store, had them call the vet as I had just left, the vet refused to confirm. Went back to the vet and asked why, when they JUST said it wasn't an issue, to have them call. They said well you will have to schedule an exam. I mentioned I had an exam already scheduled but not enough food to last, and also what would the exam consist of that would diagnose pancreatic issues (those labs were over $1500 and already confirmed). They still would not release the non medicine food diet Rx with out the 'exam'. This vets customer service is horrible and the 'new' practices are only to get more money, not patient care. read more

Also when the nurse came out to grab my puppy, we didn't know what a shot was and I asked before we had them give it to the dog. Been back and forth for a good decade with 'a country vet' they offer some very good "value-care" for veterinary services around Wilmington. They have the lowest "in-house" pharmacy- Pet Rx prices, for probably anywhere in Wilmington.. That being said.. their "walk-in" policy and what they (WONT) take appointments for.. is a little off, so you end up waiting - doing a "walk-in" visit.... And there is no telling how much of your day you will end up spending sitting in The waiting room.. with a bunch of other (P!$$€D OFF) Customers who have also realized their entire day is gone, and/or their loved pet is sitting their suffering through this horrible ordeal bc you're too scared to leave at this point - after waiting 1 - 2 - 3 hours already, it's tough.. But the Very Worst Of it are these untrained, anti social, late millennial collage kids (girls) that they keep at the front desk, who are the ones that are "supposed" to be dealing with the patients/customers & pets.. they should be keeping things calm, and be super understanding and all the stuff that should try to disarm upset, scared, mad, pet parents & their sick pets feeding off their owners tension.... B U T . . . . They Are NOT, they are the total opposite, they are absolutely confrontational, nasty, rude, dirty, back talking, little _______, that do everything you shouldn't to another human - who's in need of help.. Last Point.. this IS NOT All the ladies at the front desk, there are some good ones too. here and there'. BUT, Management & Owners need to be WAY More concerned about the BiG attitudes they stick out front representing their entire business.. I was hoping that I would calm down enough to write this where my intention is not bad mouthing but to steer people away from here to a place that can do so much better. I was referred here by soo many people about 7 years ago. I absolutely loved it for years. The prices were very cheap and the customer service was always great. Things started changing went COVId hit. The first thing to strike me as odd is when I asked for more of my dogs heartworm medicine and the girl said that they stopped giving it cause it killed dogs . I found that strange that they didn't tell me sooner but I let it go. Then, recently I saw a post on a local FB Page asking where the best vets are and 80% of people said anywhere but Country Vet. I automatically questioned it. People were saying horrible things. I had never had a bad experience so I again let it go. The last and final visit there was last Tuesday. This was the first time I ever had an emergency situation with my pet. The girl working the counter had no customer service skills and the doctor in a nutshell told me that my dog probably has massive cancer masses and I should pick a day for euthanasia. I was speechless and numb. I received no paperwork like he was he would give me and they prescribed medication in capsule form that there is no way a tiny dog could have. They did not have shots for pain(why??) I left there so distraught. Something wasn't sitting right. I took my dog to a highly recommended vet and a week later and I have a healthy dog (no cancer) and full explanations of what was Wrong. They also gave him a pain injection right away and Liquid medicine. Shame on you Country Vet for not caring about what you are doing. This is my baby and you almost made me lose him. I will never be back and I will make sure to tell everyone where TO GO to. read more

Our dog became gravely ill about 45 minutes before A Country Vet's normal closing time and they refused to see him, even though we only live 10 minutes away. Completely unacceptable. I even called back a second time to see if I could speak with someone in management. My mother has been taking her dog here for a few years. After a strange turn in events we received a call from Animal control stating that they had our dog that had been taken from us three years ago. We picked up our dog who was underweight, covered in fleas with open wounds and rotted teeth. Our first stop was the vet for evaluation. We were a walk-in and they had multiple emergencies come in while we waited therefore it was a few hours before we were even seen. Overtime my mother and I became very frustrated with the wait time however when we were finally taken back into an exam room the staff was very through and apologetic. As a customer I am not always patient and we waited for a very long time but I really respect how kind and attentive the staff was to my family during our time of need. We brought our dog back the next day because I thought I found a tumor the vet missed. Again the staff was very patient, kind and through. They also did not charge us for a follow-up exam. Overall I am very happy with the service we received and I understand why my mother brings her dog here for routine care. My personal tip is to make an appointment. Judging by the crowd at 8am this place is very popular for a reason. The best part about this vet is the small gated dog park at the front. read more

I fucking hate this vet. First, in beginning of October, I visited for what we thought was a uti, they claimed bloodwork, urinalysis, and x rays all came back normal. One month later we got an ultrasound at the emergency clinic and my dog has lymphoma all over his kidneys and lymph nodes and is about to die, they could not have prevented this but I feel as if there was neglect due to blood work coming back "normal" there was never a call from the doctor to discuss his results or anything. Nor have I ever received paper copies of his results of any test from this vet. Now, in September I had gotten my cat "spayed" but the doctor claimed my cat has some sort of genetic deformity because he could only find one ovary. Since her initial surgery she has gone into heat twice which is not normal, I believe there is still an ovary in there. I am very mad with Dr. Wilson for not compensating for any amount of the spay. Now I have to find a good vet because this one fucking sucks and I have to pay the full amount for a new spay. read more

We've been with A Country Vet for 8+ years, passing many vets along our 30 minute route there. They do NOT push unnecessary meds or vaccinations. Each recommendation clearly and precisely show the cost so there are no surprises at the end. With 4 dogs, it is nice to get a discount for multiple pets. Unlike many other prices, meds are not inflated and if they know you can get them cheaper someplace else, they will tell you. There may be a wait at times, but generally due to unexpected emergencies which we have been in that position numerous times and ate understanding when it happens. Their walk-in slots fill up fast which can be a problem at other places as well. Our lab made it to 15 1/2 years old which was years beyond what we thought we'd get because of health issues along the way. We are sure we would have lost 2 of our babies (one due to the ER vet not using common protocol) if it weren't for ACV. They've always treated us and our pets with compassion, love, professionalism and respect. Now, just like it can be anywhere, the few times there was an issue, we addressed it and ACV acknowledged the problem and solved it well. When no other vet could find an issue for one of ours suffering from seizures - ACV did - WITHOUT medication. Their fees are reasonable and we are thankful for this practice, all they do for our community and throughout the world. read more

Disappointed in the treatment we received today. Our dog has been a patient of A Country Vet for years. He was very ill all through the night so I called at 8am to see if he could be seen, not aware that they took walk ins. The receptionist told us to drive on over so we left immediately. We arrived, only to be told they could not see us because the clinic had reached its walk in limit. We were embarrassed at how poorly we were treated in front of the others who were waiting. Most likely, the majority of the dogs were there to get shots updated and we really had a true emergency. No consideration whatsoever and the most uncaring attitude from the desk person. In the past, we've received excellent care and service from ACV. I believe in second chances and will try them once more. If the customer service and level of caring returns, I will update this post. **Update** They did see us at 1pm on the same day and could not have been more caring and nice. I highly recommend a country vet. You can bring your dog there with no appointment for a nail trim and a rabies shot. The Rabies shot is $14 and the nail trim is $15. You can't beat that. Plus we waited in the parking lot only for about five minutes for them to take both my dogs in at the same time. They were only in there for about 10 minutes. These people are amazing. Anna is her name. She was receiving patients starting at 8am opening time. I was proud of myself for being first in line after making the effort to be the first one. Unfortunately, that was spoiled by Anna's rude, uncaring, unprofessional attitude. Clearly, she was not happy to be there working with paying customers. Because of another experience with the front desk, I was hoping to get someone more pleasant and happy to assist, but I got unlucky again!!! And had to deal with Anna's grouchy, annoyed attitude. I actually knew it as soon as she spoke and the expression on her face. She should never had been placed at that position. I totally support the other negative reviews about how unfriendly and unappreciative and uncaring the front desk staff is. Surely, there are nicer ones, but all it takes is one to really upset your day or your experience there. Someone there need to take the time to read the reviews and make an effort to give the staff needed training on how to communicate with paying customers. Blows my mind that these folks continue behave so unprofessionally. I have three dogs on record there. But after today, July 24, 2020, I will move to a new clinic. Covid review: I called to make an appointment for a new patient and they asked what services I needed. I was told to just drive in so I asked when their wait time is the shortest. I was told to mid-day to avoid surgical pickups or deliveries. I arrived around 1pm and checked in with no wait. I waited in my vehicle for about 25 minutes then they called us up on the phone. They took my senior-aged pup back for technical services: heart worm test and a rabies vaccination while I waited outside the facility. Yupp - they didn't make me ou for a wellness check-up because I didn't need it! Love it. They finished in about a minute and sent me to payment (located behind a wall partition). I surprised to learn that their service PLUS a year supply of heart worm/flea/tick medication for a 60lb dog was almost $100 less than I had previously paid at an actual country vet in rural Alabama (with a military discount) AND what I used to pay at the vet near RDU. I have heard multiple horror stories from friends and local rescues about this location, and could not in good conscience recommend them. They declaw cats (which is basically the equivalent of removing your fingernails if you need a comparison). The vets honestly don't seem to be qualified to do their jobs. I took a kitten in for constipation problems and Dr. Ellis told me she was fine she "just needed to poop", which is the f***ing reason I brought her there in the first place. I have had the worst experience with A Country Vet ever. On Jan. 23 my 2lb Maltipoo was given her second DHPP vaccine just 10 days after her first one that was given at a different vet before I got her on Jan 10. The shot record from prior was given at check in! The blonde at the front desk said she would call to verify, but never did! With the carelessness of this office put her in an anaphylaxis reaction from the vaccine and almost killed her!!! After I STRESSED the fact she had just gotten a vaccine and the words from the blonde at the front and the Hispanic nurse that took Lucy back "those don't matter, she'll be fine to get another one". They didn't even bother to add her first vaccine to her prior history in her record at their clinic until after the fact that she was hospitalized and almost died. Then they got a copy of it when I went into the clinic Jan 24 and I spoke to Richie that day which is the office manager and he agreed with me that Lucy shouldn't have got that shot that day! He couldn't help me he had to speak with Dr. Dan the previous owner that is now the head doctor there. I spoke with Dr. Dan Jan 25 and he in fact said "I would've felt comfortable giving her the vaccine" He made it out like it wasn't their fault. He kept repeating his self. What the hell is wrong with you doctors!!! No remorse was felt in our conversation! NO CLINIC SHOULD GIVE A PUP THAT SMALL A VACCINE BEOFRE 3-4 WEEK AFTER THEIR FIRST ONE!!! Per the hospital this reaction was not just an allergic reaction to the vaccine it was because she was given the vaccine too soon! It can happen with any vaccine, but THIS ONE IS BECAUSE THEY GAVE HER A SHOT SHE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE UNTIL FEB 3RD-10TH!!! Since he is no longer the owner and was supposed to reach out to the owner to discuss the incident. He said I will hear back no later than Monday and here it is and NOTHING! I had to call him wait on hold for 20 minutes just for him to chuckle and say that he hasn't done anything he said he was going to do that it would be Wednesday of this week. Tried saying he never got the invoice from me but received the hospital note that was sent all at the same time with the invoice. Proceeds to tell me he will not be doing anything about it today either, which is unacceptable in a situation like this. This was my first and last visit with this clinic! I love this clinic. They gave great care to my 11 year old pug. They never try to up Sell which is my biggest peeve with so many other vets in the area. The staff up front is friendly and they get you in and out quickly. The staff takes the time you need to discuss all problems and they are easy to deal with financially. read more
