This is the first time I ask for a fade and the barber didn't even change guards. I usually get a good cut here but I will not be coming here anymore. The older guy on Sunday's is Horrible at cutting hair, didn't even change the guards on the clippers to fade evenly! I know crackheads that can do a better job than this. That's the problem with barbershops right next to the base, they don't even have to try because military will always be there the week after so they give you this disgusting product. The older gentleman in the back on Sunday should not be cutting hair at all. read more

This is an uncut gem that is hidden in plain sight. The shop looks old, rough and industrial. Like you are expecting a assembly line approach to get you out as fast as possible. That all changes when you meet Benny. He's the lead barber, manager and most talented man in the shop. He's funny, intelligent, approachable and actually listens to his customers. Talk to him, tell him what you are looking for. Better yet ask his opinion about what would look good on you. I've been going to this shop for the last 11 years and I've never walked away disappointed. One word of warning, try not to come in on a Sunday, it's overrun with Marines getting cuts. read more

I used to get my flat top done by Kristy for many years. After I moved from O.C. to San Pedro I would still travel to San Clemente, 60 miles, for my haircut. It's hard to find someone that gives a great flat top. Kristy is one of the best. Her salon is warm and friendly. People are great. It's hard to convey how much I like A Cut Above. I'm super low maintenance -- I usually ask for a fade a trim on the top. Told Benny to just take off the sides and leave the top, and half of this is "my fault" but he literally did just that, and I had to ask to get it styled (so I'd know it was done right, it's the only way I know). I now know you've got to be well versed about your own hair, especially when dealing with amateur barbers. Overall an overpriced eye roll experience. read more

Hubby went to this barber shop last night and was very happy he stopped by. The guy who cut his hair was named Ron. Ron was a nice guy and showed us pics of his dogs. OK... now regarding this place they use clippers that is attached is to an air line. What does this mean? Well, it means a few things. First: No hair left on your neck, ears, shirt or face... Second, no hair on the floor... Third, very sanitary... who wants to inhale other people's hair particles? Essentially, the hair is sucked up into a vacuum which flows to a dumpster in the back. I'm from Connecticut and am pretty OCD about my hair. So much so that I have been cutting my own hair for the past 5 years because I was sick of coming home and fixing it after getting it cut. I was in San Clemente for a wedding and didn't have time before traveling to trim my hair up. So I decided to take a chance with a barber shop around the area. That's when I stumbled into this place and had absolutely no regrets. For the first time I had my hair cut better than I could have ever imagined. This is by far the best barbershop in the san clemente area!! Been going here for almost 5 years and have never had a single hair out of place. The staff is extremely friendly, and they even cut kids hair if it's not on sundays of course. Highly recommended, and will continue to go here for years to come. read more

Absolutely horrible. First time here and will never go back, I suggest you don't either. I scheduled an appointment through their website. I show up for my appointment and the only person there (benny) acts like he hasn't ever heard of an appointment before and gives me nothing but attitude when in walk in the front door and seemed pissed he had to look up from his phone. Anyway he sits me down and starts cutting my hair. ( Halfway through the haircut he mentions they don't take card even though on their website and google maps it specifically says they do. He says that ill have to use their ATM in the back of the store($3.50 charge). I get done with the shortest and worst haircut of my life ( he didn't say a word the to me the entire time, spent about ten minutes in total and my hair doesn't even look good and was rude from the start) and try to pull out cash so I can get out of there. ATM doesn't work and Benny doesn't have enough cash to refill it... so he says I have to go to 7/11 to get cash back. I should have just walked away and never came back with the money, but I went to 7/11 and got the money and came back, which was $25 for a awful haircut. I give Benny the money and ask him if he treats all of his customers this way and that its disappointing because I just moved here and was trying to find a good barber. Benny and I exchange words he swears at me and i swear at him and leave the store looking like a fifth grader cut my hair. Not sure what the deal is with this place or Benny but i tried contacting the owners but to no surprise they haven't answered yet. MY ADVICE: go somewhere else read more

Without a doubt, this is the best barbershop in OC! I've been going here for over a year now and have always left satisfied. The cuts are clean, the prices are fantastic and the service is second to none. I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes but it does get packed on Sundays since the devil dogs on Camp Pendleton have to get haircuts before Monday morning. If you're looking for a old school barbershop to get a nice cut and enjoy the company of everyone there, this is the spot for you! I go to Dre, the owners son, first chair on the left. Kristy is AMAZING. My husband gets his hair cut every week here and she does an amazing job! I also get my hair cut my Kristy and she does phenomenal! She is the first person I have let cut my hair other than my stylist in Minnesota for 10+ years and she did not let me down!! This was a great place! from the start I got a warm welcome from the girls. The waiting time was not long at all, and there were many barbers working at once. Didn't get to check out their game room downstairs, but I did see some people coming out saying there was a pool table and an xbox. The lady that did my hair was great, and very experienced. I got a perfect fade, and a free shampoo! The overall ambiance of the place was very relaxing and fun. Best Barbers I have been to in a while, defiantly would recommend it to anyone. read more

I used to go to JP's, further down the street, but when it was purchased and gutted, I found myself coming here. They are definintly on the nice side of the barbershops in town, offering straight razor shaves, a hair-wash after your fade, products for gentlemen who touch up after a cut. The ladies who were working there when I started were knowledgable and very friendly, and the wait even on a Sunday morning isn't a problem. The really cool thing is that they hired Bud from my previous shop, who now has his own station inside. He is charging his old prices, so if you're looking for an inexpensive, quick and easy fade Fri-Sun, you can look for him. I've only been to this barber shop once. And the experience was definitely unsatisfactory. It wasn't very busy in the barbershop and the gentleman who cut my hair still did a very rushed job he left hair on the back of my head that was uncut and one of my sideburns was left as well. It was extremely noticeable after I wash my hair.I would not recommend this barber shops in any of my friends if you're going to get your haircut in San Clemente you might as well just go to RAY's and deal with the crowd. read more

I have to share an experience when i left this establishment. I was completely insulted by Carla the employee after she made the rudist remark to me as i left the establishment. the most unprofessional experience i have ever encountered. They are not affiliated with the salon ,Hair Affair next door and have just moved in there a week ago. I am a local S.C.local who would not want an establishment in my community like this one.
