    Faery Queen!

My 4yo and I went to this lovely show last weekend, and we were absolutely enthralled! It's a musical show aimed at the younger set, I would say ages 3-6 is the sweet spot but good for 2-8. There were four performers in our show, including Debbie as Auntie Angelique who greets the guests and introduces them into the world with a warm presence. Debbie wrote the show and has been running this nonprofit for 19 years. They perform the show in outdoor venues where they can move from area to area as they "discover" new faery characters. The actors were lovely and so were the songs. At the end they do a meet and greet and chat with the kids. It was truly so sweet and enchanting. We went to the show at Kindred Spirits Care Farm, which is a rescue sanctuary in Chatsworth. I believe the ticket price there is a little higher as it includes entrance to the farm. I highly recommend and we plan to go again sometime, as they have four stories. They also do birthday parties!

Upon arrival, guest have literally no idea what to do when they arrive at the restaurant. No one is there to greet anyone, we were just left to wander awkwardly around. While it says the show is 7 to 10 PM we were unable to get out of there until almost 11. This really ruined our after event plans, as we had no way to gracefully leave. The show was running late (there was a big lag between the salad and entrée with no activities or instructions on what to do during that awkward lull), and when finally it was "solved" (about 10:40pm), the performers and host positioned themselves in front of the only room exit, so they could introduce cast members. And after that-then even though it was 10:45PM, while they were still blocking the exit, they opted to single out everyone who had a birthday or anniversary, and sing happy birthday not once but twice in Long form. We really wanted to leave, and it was impossible. I've been to many murder, mystery evenings, and never been to one that there were not props involved. Usually there are evidence Props placed all around the room and included on the evidence table with diagrams, etc. So it was disappointing that no real thought went into creating "evidence". For over $650 for 6 of us (we bought cocktails at the bar), and our after plans completely ruined due to us not being able to get out until almost at 11 o'clock, I probably would have given this a two star rating but the food was very good and the actors at our table were fun to be around.

I've been singing the soundtrack ever since and genuinely cannot wait to come back and see more. Isaiah Bailey was the most perfect Phantom. His performance was so incredibly moving, and his voice carried beautifully throughout the entire theater. I never felt like I was struggling to hear the performers, but there would be very few moments that the audio was too loud it was impossible to understand (the closed captions definitely helped). The lighting, set design, and staging were also executed beautifully. Every scene was so intricate, and the production really made the theater feel like part of the experience. I also appreciated how smoothly everything moved during the intermissions. Getting in and out of the theater and moving through the crowds between acts was surprisingly easy, and everything felt well organized. Unfortunately, my biggest issue had less to do with the theater itself and more to do with some of the audience members. There was a noticeable lack of theater etiquette that unfortunately took away from the experience. People were eating food inside the theater despite it being prohibited, and it was especially distracting and irritating when sitting nearby. There were also phones being left on, loud conversations happening during the performance, and other disruptive behavior while the actors were actively performing. I completely understand that an audience is difficult to control, and maybe I was simply dealt a particularly inconsiderate crowd that night. However, I do wish the employees were a little more enforcing of the theater's rules, particularly when it comes to eating and disruptive behavior. The rules are there for a reason, and when you're watching a production this incredible, it's frustrating to have moments interrupted by someone talking loudly, eating, or looking at their bright phone screen. Despite that, I absolutely loved my experience at the Pantages and would happily return. The Phantom of the Opera was phenomenal, the cast was outstanding, and the theater itself is beautiful. I'm giving 4 stars primarily because the lack of respect from some audience members did diminish what otherwise could have been a nearly perfect experience.

All of the kid's plays are great and our grandson has not missed one yet. They also do holiday themed plays. The prices are great, this is one of the last places you can take a kid and not spend more than 18$ a ticket and often less. The staff is the nicest. I would recommend parking in lot number 3 which seems to be the closest. That's in the northeastern part of UCLA, where Sunset and Hilgard meet. Once parked, when you walk out to the street (Charles E Young, I think) just turn right and walk towards the garden of sculptures. Once you see the sculpture garden, make a quick right, McGowan is on the right side of you. Parking is $8 all day. You can park for a couple hours, if that's all you need. That will set you back about $4. The parking station we paid at wasn't working for credit cards, so make sure you have cash on you, just in case. The sound inside the theatre was great. The seating was good too, not too cramped where your legs are (like some theaters). I would go back for another play.
