A cashier named Griselda refused to page anyone for help and once my crew loaded our materials as she watched she attempted to block exit as if we hadn't paid for the materials. That it was an honest mistake and that I'd be back really soon so I can purchase a sprinkler system and shop there for all my future yard needs. This guy was an asshole and just a rude dickhead. He mate it seem like he owns the place and talked down to me. I yanked back my receipt and gave him a piece of my mind. He tried to be an as sole one more time as I left, saying "have a nice day" in a severe sarcastic way so I told him, "yeah and f you back! Waste of my time and money!" On my most recent trip to South Texas, I made it a point to finally check it out and I'm so glad I did. The space itself is beautiful. It has a very aesthetic, thoughtfully designed look with plenty of photo-worthy opps, including a charming old-style phone booth that's impossible to ignore. The food really hit the spot too. We started with the queso topped with pork belly, which was decadent and incredibly flavorful. The addition of pineapple was a great touch, adding just the right hint of sweetness to balance everything out. I also had the Texas chicken and waffles. The waffle was perfectly shaped like the state of Texas, and the chicken strips were crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and just plain excellent. Add in good butter and solid execution, and it was a standout dish. One of the fun surprises was that Southern Roots isn't just a restaurant. There's also a small vintage shop where I managed to knock out some last-minute Christmas shopping, plus a cute flower shop on site. Food, shopping, and flowers all in one stop?
