A Good Used Book is a neighborhood & independent bookstore that focuses on - as you can probably guess - used books. The bookstore is best known for Every Sunday Funday Markets from 12 PM to 4 PM, but check their IG page to confirm dates and get details on vendors. They also host occasional Saturday pop-ups like Saturday School (12 PM to 4 PM) - again check their Instagram page for specific dates. [Parking]: Street parking only (free), but I found few spots available on W Court Street on Saturday afternoon. [Saturday School]: Our group visited one of their Saturday School pop-ups and vendors like WEPA Pa'l Mundo (Puerto Rican food) and Ako's Tea (specialty teas with a modern twist) were set up in front of the bookstore. No outdoor tables so expect to eat or drink while standing or inside your own car. Our party came at 3 PM on Saturday and most food from WEPA Pa'l Mundo was already sold out. However, our party did end up getting a drink from Ako's Tea and Sticky Rice Pu-erh Tea was quite refreshing. [Bookstore]: I could tell firsthand that the staff here handpicked the used, vintage, rare, and new books. The bookstore has an interesting book selection. Smaller used books are wrapped in plastic so you can't browse them for previews, but larger books are unwrapped which allow visitors to flip through the pages. [Buying program]: The shop selectively buys used books in the following categories: vintage paperbacks of all kinds, modern and literary fiction, classics and cult classics, translated fiction, radical theory, cultural nonfiction, art, photography, film, design, and music. Canonized and outsider, essential and unexpected. Condition matters (clean and readable) and they offer a percentage of what the store sells for. The owners are super kind and welcoming. They've got a great selection of books, all in excellent condition, and everything is well organized so it's easy to browse. The vibe is chill- nice music playing in the background (I definitely Shazammed a few songs while I was there). One of my favorite touches is that they ask to take a picture of you with your book purchases to post on Instagram- such a cool, personal detail. Parking was easy to find on a Friday morning. This stretch of Glendale Boulevard in Historic Filipinotown, just south of Echo Park, once harbored little, but is now teaming with businesses catering to young folk of the York Avenue sort. I discovered this place in an article that I read that mentioned the lively and varied events that they have there. Though, I checked it out on a Wednesday afternoon during rush hour. I am unusually fond of good used bookstores and this place lives up to its name. The selection is impressive; the prices (generally $12 to $20 for paperbacks), though, are higher than most used bookstores. However, if you find yourself on this block of Glendale Boulevard, you can likely afford this place. read more

Loveeee this bookstore! Not only do the have a great selection but it's just an awesome community space. I came here on a random saturday once and there were local vendors selling their art and they have food and other special events on Sundays! Their used books are reasonably priced and you can really find some gems! I found a 1964 copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray that had a cool gnarly looking cover. The owners are so friendly too. I can be a bit shy and he welcomed me and my friend and just had a great conversation. Every reader (even non reader) should be supporting this business! read more

I've been following A Good Used Book on Instagram for a while, especially for their pop-ups and I'm so glad I finally checked out their physical store. They have such good selections of new and gently used books. I was happily surprised by their vintage book picks, very rare to find in other bookstores. The owners are super kind and friendly as reflected in their careful and thoughtful book curations. I love how they have almost weekly community events and partnerships. This wonderful curated used bookstore is run by a lovely couple, both of whom are really nice and welcoming. They have done pop ups throughout LA county including one I previously attended in PF candle company. They have a vast selection of gently used books (though many of them in my opinion, looked brand new) as the store name implies. They separate the books according to categories/ genres - nonfiction, fiction, classics, comedy, shakesphere, cooking, self help, etc. Many come with a unique food plastic wrapping which allows you to look at the copies without damaging the edges of the books. It makes you feel like you are flipping through records at a record shop. It's a wonderful feeling going through all the books and as one of the owners mentioned, you can easily get happily lost in here looking through all of the books and titles. Some books are also in boxes on the floor which people have happily spent hours looking at the titles. Every time I thought I was done searching, another book would catch my eye and I'm like wow! let me look over there. The books were all reasonably priced and they even have a dollar section, where the books are $1 I bought the book "Little Fires Everywhere." and the 3rd book of Lord of the Rings. They are currently in my house. The store is currently in the soft opening stage where they are open on Thursdays to Sundays from 10am - 6pm. It's really awesome seeing them open a bookstore and they picked a wonderful place to do so, honestly echo park needs more 3rd spaces and I'm looking forward to doing Christmas shopping here soon. read more

I stumbled upon this bookstore because I was in the area and what an amazing find! The owners were so kind and helped me find the book I needed. I ended up taking home "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro but there were so many different selections of Asian literature that is worth checking out. The perfect little bookstore in Echo Park with an absolutely incredible selection of used books. I have to limit myself when I stop by because I could truly leave each trip with 5+ books. They have an insane selection of books for $1--and not your standard selection of cheap books of little interest. I've gotten two different James Baldwin books for $1! As lovely as the books are, the true standouts are the owners, Jenny and Chris. This store is so clearly a labor of love and they've put so much thought and care into it.
