I looked around and got a vibe that it was an ultra liberal shop, it's fine I mean I don't have a problem with it I just didn't get a very welcome vibe. I saw some $2 chocolate bars at the counter so I bought one. The girl sitting at the cash register area never said hello or anything, she took my $2 and never looked me in the eye. I didn't feel very welcome here, and what they had wasn't anything I'm interested in so I won't be back.

In the past, I've donated dozens of my extra copies to this bookstore. I also knew an author whose book cover was painted on their street wall. However, this year, I had the worst customer service experience with Amadeus F., who made no effort to accommodate me in purchasing a book from North Figueroa. Here is what happened: I saw a book I wanted in the pile of books on the check-out counter, waiting to be processed. I've previously read that book when I borrowed it from the public library but wanted to have my own copy, without paying shipping cost from online shopping. I'm a fan of the author, whom I've been following for years, and have most of their books. So, I asked Amadeus whether he could price the wanted book first since I was already in the store and ready to buy it. Amadeus said that he was overwhelmed and couldn't do it right away. Fair enough, so I told him I'd be in the area for another hour or two, which would give him enough time to price it. He responded that this was not how the selling works: after he prices the book, he has to contact the seller, get their approval of the price, and only then offer it to customers. I was confused that this had to be done to the hundreds of books in the store. However, I accepted his terms, and left my phone number to be contacted when the book was ready for sale. This was on May 2nd. Now, almost two months later, I'm still waiting to be contacted about the book. It is obvious that customers are not Amadeus's priority. (Other booksellers were shocked to hear how he treated me.) But even worse is his arrogance and commitment towards disrespecting people. Unfortunately, Amadeus tarnishes the good reputation of North Figueroa and I'm not as enthusiastic about that place as I used to be. P.S. I forgot to mention that I'm blocked out of North Figueroa's website every time I check for the abovementioned book's availability.

Everything also seemed reasonably priced, including the arts/crafts items available too. The person at the counter was kind and gave us some insight on the author of one of the books my friend and I were browsing off their staff picks shelf! It's a lending library that functions on the honor system. All you need to provide is your name and email address and viola, you're a member! You can borrow up to three books at a time. As if that wasn't enough: - They have enthusiastic staff (special shout out to Chris!) - They have a growing Spanish section. - Tons of FREE street parking. - It's right off the "Mariachi Plaza" gold line stop. - And on Fridays there's a farmers market a stone's throw away! Oh! And they gladly accept book donations, especially Spanish titles.

While personally I favor paperbacks and reading, rather than the collecting of books, if I had a lot of dough, I would happily spend it at Owl Creek. The majority of the store is hardcover with many first editions and the prices generally run between $50 and $500. I have never seen so many $500 books sitting on shelves and not displayed. That said, this store seems to be as much about serious literature as it is about book collecting. If you are looking for something rare and you're willing to spend $50 or more for it, you may find it here.

I first came across Owl Creek Books when I went to a book fair they had in LA. They have rare…read morebooks, some for the 1800's. Now they are not cheap. These are the real books. For what you are getting the price is fair. They are not to be read at the beach or dog eared. You may want to pass them down. I have since been to the store twice and am saving for a book I really want. The service there is so great and they don't mind if you are not buying today. I hear they will have poetry readings soon and I can't wait to go. I love book stores and there are so few left.

There's a sign that says it when you walk in and the person checking your bags will let you in and give you a numbered as binder clip. There is so many photo apps in this bookstore. It almost feels like you have to be there half a day and just sit down and enjoy everything they have to offer to read. I went to the poetry section right away, and I thought ' aw man there isn't much,' but I still got to find a book to purchase. I then had to use the bathroom, which didn't have any toilet paper in any stalls. But managed to use the seater paper. Hey whatever works. I was surprised to see that they have merchandise for sale of all kinds of T-shirts and blouses and sweaters. The value for these books are not too expensive, but there is so much to see and if you find the right thing, that's what paying for them buy it. I was also very happy to listen to music of my favorite artist being played. They had several music from Natalia Laforga to Chicano Batman many Spanish songs playing..
