The one problem with this place is that it doesn't have good signage. I ran into it as I was walking. See photo below to help you find it. This pace has a great selection of titles.

    Vast selection.

This place is such a gem ! I had a great experience.! Staff was kind and suggested books based off what I was looking for. Will definitely return once we are done reading the books we purchased. Great book selection for adults and kids..!

    Love it here :)

Good books, but this foo is never there during the posted store hours. I've gone more than three times and drove out for nothing.

They have a lot of obscure figurines and collectibles here. The staff is helpful and the novelty of the store is pretty cool. I still think you're better going off to frank and son if you're looking for hobby/collectible things. Still a cool store to stop by and check out if you're in Little Tokyo.

They open at 12:00 PM, but people start lining up well before that. Thankfully, I went on a Wednesday, so I didn't have to wait very long. Once you get inside, they hand you a ticket, and you are watched like a hawk as you wander through the store. The store is super cute inside with tons to look at, though it is heavily dominated by Sonic and Persona merch. They have a lot of items that are usually only sold in Japan, which means they are imported--and priced accordingly. The prices here are sky-high, so I wouldn't recommend planning a massive shopping spree unless you want to empty your wallet. I ended up only purchasing one item: a little Shadow the Hedgehog plushy for $20. Why I'm Knocking Off Stars : The service here was almost nonexistent. While the girl at the door handing out tickets was friendly enough, the cashiers were a different story. When my friend and I went up to the register to pay, the two employees working there were chatting away as if they were having the time of their lives. We stood there staring at them for almost three minutes before I finally had to speak up and say, "Excuse me, may I please purchase this?" They both looked up with frowns on their faces, staring at me like I had just interrupted the most important, intimate conversation of their lives. It was so bizarre--you'd think they'd be happy to ring up a customer! Instead, the guy just silently muttered "register," grabbed my item, and rang me up without saying another word. It was incredibly clear he just wanted to get me out of there as fast as possible to get back to his conversation with his coworker. It left a really bad impression. It's a very cute shop and definitely worth a quick visit just to see everything. If you decide to go, my biggest recommendation is to go on a weekday around 11:30 AM so you can be one of the first in line and avoid a massive wait! Just don't expect much from the staff at checkout.

There's a sign that says it when you walk in and the person checking your bags will let you in and give you a numbered as binder clip. There is so many photo apps in this bookstore. It almost feels like you have to be there half a day and just sit down and enjoy everything they have to offer to read. I went to the poetry section right away, and I thought ' aw man there isn't much,' but I still got to find a book to purchase. I then had to use the bathroom, which didn't have any toilet paper in any stalls. But managed to use the seater paper. Hey whatever works. I was surprised to see that they have merchandise for sale of all kinds of T-shirts and blouses and sweaters. The value for these books are not too expensive, but there is so much to see and if you find the right thing, that's what paying for them buy it. I was also very happy to listen to music of my favorite artist being played. They had several music from Natalia Laforga to Chicano Batman many Spanish songs playing.. The universe truly brought me to this place because I've been wanting a T-shirt for a very long time, and I stumbled upon it without even looking for it.

Even when I'm not looking to buy anything, it's still worth coming just to explore. The place is unlike anything else. It's also a perfect spot for anyone creating content for a social media travel page. Upstairs you'll find an art gallery and several other shops, while downstairs has old vinyl records and CDs. If you love that classic old bookstore smell, this place has it in full. Personally it's not my favorite, but definitely worth noting for those who do. The main downsides are parking and crowds. Finding a spot by car can be a challenge, and the store draws a good number of tourists so it can get pretty packed. If you're not a fan of crowds, just keep that in mind before you go.

I attended a few of the very early shows and then a handful of them over the next 20 years or so depending on the guests. These are a few flyers that I kept from the early 80's. As far as I know, it was the only show around at that time (in the LA area) so really ground breaking for that community.

I hope that this is the permanent new home of the show. The Reef is a much better venue than The Shrine Auditorium. The neighborhoods are similar and The Shrine has better neighborhood options for food, but The Reef has a fresher and more friendly feel. The vendors at this show were plentiful for shopping, very relevant with lots of comic book dealers as well as pop culture toy vendors and related exhibitors. Only a small handful of irrelevant dealers selling adult content merchandise (tho that ties into the 40 yr old virgin stereotype of the whole comic book sci fi gamer geek profile, so sort of does match the target attending audience) and other goods. To a degree this show has an equal showing of comic dealers than some of the larger known conventions in The Los Angeles area, so if you just like hard core shopping for comic books, especially deep discounted below cover price back issues, the quantity of dealers were here. There were also lots of higher grade quality vintage comic book dealers too. There was a convenient parking lot at a flat rate of $15 and admission was $12 to get in per person. They were promoting the next show scheduled for 02/28/16, which looks to be an equally good promotion. I hope this is the momentum this convention needed as the venue facelift to reinvigorate the show and bring it back to the quality of its former glory days of yesteryear. I wish the promoters luck and give them praise for a great start in 2016.

This new space is absolutely massive and beautifully spread out! Walking inside instantly triggered so much nostalgia for the cute little bookstores and stationary shops I visited when I was in Japan. Everything is so neatly arranged and wrapped. They have an incredible selection of books in both English and Japanese. Seriously, they have everything you can think of: manga, magazines, cookbooks, adorable plushies, stationery, and T-shirts. When we went, they even had some amazing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure artwork on the wall and tons of Pokémon merch. My friend and I stopped by right after the anime convention ended, and the place was packed. Because it gets so busy, they have a strict "no drinks" policy, resulting in a hilariously massive pile of boba and coffees left at the front entrance. The employees seemed overwhelmed & nobody greeted us. My only real critique: Prepare yourself for the price tags. Everything is extremely overpriced. I saw a pretty basic black T-shirt featuring a famous Japanese artist's work going for $60. I get that it's specialty import stuff, but it's definitely an investment! Tip: It's a fantastic place to visit, but if you want to actually browse the Studio Ghibli or anime sections without fighting a crowd, try to come during the week!
