DO NOT HIRE or even talk to 3 Strong Handymen from Rockford Il for ANY reason! William R. Hall III…read more(aka Bill Hall) owns this business which goes by various names around the 3 Strong theme. One of the strong men quit and so now there are only 2 strong men. The other guy is Brett who was cordial all the time. The same can't be said of Bill! It appears Bill has an anger issue, and the anger is palatable when speaking with him. At first, when he is getting money, he is very nice but after that it's a different story! Any questions or observations by me where quickly rebuffed and I was told to wait until it was done. Bill's communication skills are poor at best. Bill's knowledge of carpentry is frighteningly minimal. He has no knowledge of building code or the correct names of windows, headers, or rafter load and many more! At best they only worked about 5 hours a day never showing up before noon! One other thing about Bill, he always has an excuse for everything and why they don't show up for work. Twice he said his son dropped his phone in water and twice they broke down on the road. He also used possible rain as an excuse not to even show up. I contracted with Bill to build a 3-season room on our deck and a shed in the yard. Each had a separate contract, which I have now learned are illegal! Plus, he broke several agreements outlined in the contract, so the contracts are null and void. The 3-season room had so many code violations and atrocious carpentry errors that when the new contractor and building inspector came by, they could hardly believe it. I thought the building inspector was going to throw-up! The building inspector said the whole structure would have to be removed. The roof, walls and floor had to go. This cost me money and time, plus a dumpster for all the bad wood and roof. Some of the issues where the deck roof was not connected to house roof properly. I am told that in strong wind or heavy snow the deck would collapse and take some of the house with it. The contract called for double pain windows, single pane was used, Bill did not know the difference between single pane and double pane windows. There were no headers above the windows or door, a major structural problem. They used caulk that dissolved in the rain and ran on the walls and outside step. Bill used insulation foam as caulking to block the wide cracks between the wall panels, windows, and door. The connection between the house roof and room was a constant leak source. The connection leaked and they came to fix it spending their whole 5 hours here fixing it. When it rained, I had a 20 ft long leak in the 3-season room. That's when I fired them. I could go on and on about Bills failures in building our 3-season room, but not enough room here! As far as the shed goes, they never started it! This is just plain out fraud! By the way they never had a problem going into my garage looking for tools they needed without permission! I am now missing my Milwaukee Saws-All! Bill is a felon on some sort of gun charge, and this is his new scam! I am sure Bill has excuses for all this as always. I have attached some photos to this review to showcase Bill's incompetence.

Not sure where to even begin. I'm only putting this review out there so others will not find…read morethemselves disappointed. Let's say something nice at the start, Brett does a good job with his sprayer and with his painting. Brett is generally cordial. Many things were done that I was not capable of doing myself such as some electrical work and Plumbing. They were nice enough the very first day before they actually started doing the other work to move a couple of heavy pieces of furniture upstairs for me. However, upon closer inspection and numerous days experience, I began becoming increasingly alarmed. I realized that the wiring for the new hot tub was not code and I mentioned that. They insisted that it was but went ahead and tore it up and redid it by actually encasing it underground in a tube instead of just the raw wires. Of course I paid for all of their time, including all the time that was spent unnecessarily. There was actually much unnecessary time that I started observing, such as both men going off to exchange a part that was the wrong one that they had previously picked up. Or, going out to get a certain size drill to make a hole in the door, or, leaving to go find a level... Of course on the clock the whole time! I always expect the best, I don't micromanage and when I started looking at the trim work that was done on the interior I couldn't believe it! There was no mitering where there should have been just raw uncut uneven edges meeting one another, pieces missing holes where there shouldn't be and the list goes on and on! Brand new ceiling, hole in the material itself on the edge, poorly cut new ceiling in the powder room downstairs which they said they were going to recut, never did , brand new faucet in the bathroom tub, and when I went to use it for the first time days after it had been installed it was loose. They argued and said that it wasn't that way when they put it in... My staff had been using that bathtub to clean their paint pans and brushes. For the sink, they did mention that they had left some part out when they put the original one back in that was never supposed to have been switched out to begin with. They said they fixed it. Didn't. I had them install a box on the door that has a code for entry. When one of my staff arrived this morning they had installed a door knob that also had a lock and they locked it when they left yesterday. We were locked out and no key. I messaged him and said my staff was locked out and I didn't understand why that door was locked with the new keypad. He began yelling at me uncontrollably and said that I never told him not to lock that bottom lock. I frankly didn't even know they had put a lock on the bottom because it would be unnecessary. Bill has been pretty disrespectful at times while working for me in the last couple of weeks or so and I just kept my silence and would just walk away and let him be. I could see he has a very violent temper. The list could go on and on I would just warn anybody not to engage with this company. I have paid an exorbitant amount of money $7,777.00!!!, plus supplies, and we agreed to do everything on an hourly basis , but so much time was lost with leaving and running around doing this and that and the other and catching Brett on his phone many many times, and seeing Bill not active just standing there with Brett and when they noticed me all of a sudden the conversation would turn to what they were going to do next. I'm a pretty smart cookie, I guess they didn't think I was. I just wanted to get the job done. Should have been looking more closely at their work. Have to stop trusting. I would like to add photos, but I'm not at that property right now. If I can add them later I will.

A home inspection that came in late required us to put in handrails on two stairways. We are new to the community and could find no one. Darrell gave me a quote and came and did the work. His work was solid. He was professional and done quickly. My husband and I were so grateful! Because the work had been so good on the handrails, we talked to him about a couple of other odd jobs and our new home he installed a pantry, medicine cabinet, and was honest with us about the fact we would not be able to install a garbage disposal. In addition he did a few other odd jobs while he was here. His work is always top-notch, he is pleasant to deal with, and we have been more than satisfied. I would say that you get what you pay for. His work isn't cheap, but his quality is outstanding and he is very good to work with. We are in the process of having him come back and do more work. He is helping us make our house a home!

He did a terrible job on my deck. He used a sealant that was stained and it bled everywhere. He didn't end up painting at all, even though he said he did. I complained about the work (I paid nearly $700) and his response was "this actually isn't my area of expertise". Well thanks for being honest and up front buddy! He did offer to come back and fix it and he did, but he still never painted, other than tiny touch ups because he said he didn't have a tall enough ladder. Well dude, why offer these services (and take our money) when you won't perform them?!? He told me he would refund $60 and asked for my Venmo which I gave him. That was June 28. He never sent it and never responded to text messages. He had now gone completely silent. No matter how nice he seems DO NOT HIRE HIM. I'm out $700 for a sticky, unsealed deck, with no trim or painted. BEWARE!! PS: he used my deck as a commercial on his FB page after he power washed it but before the seal. Of course it looks good then. I asked for it me taken down and he refused. Used it without my permission!

As soon as I heard about the toilet being broken for a year and knowing that he had to go down to the basement each time, middle of the night or middle of the day, it was time to take action. I called Justin for his assistance and to get a quote and understanding of what was wrong. He happily offered to come by the same day and take a look. He reminded me that he could help with other projects if case it was needed. Which he did and still does.... All in due time. Justin met us for the quote, right on time and wearing a mask. Thank you! He introduced himself and mentioned his specialties upon meeting my pop and sister. Anyway, he checked out the toilet, asked a couple of questions, stuck his hand in the nasty water to show us why the whole thing should be replaced instead of just a part or two. He went over his fee and cost of a new throne for my pop. He was friendly and trustworthy and available to do the fix for us that same day. Within the hour, we had our quote and our new toilet (choosing to pick out our own). He met us back and was gone within a couple of hours from arriving. We had attempted for him to do more work for my dad and his home, but anchors needed to be purchased and my dad changed his mind. Justin was very understanding and respectful to my dad, his home, and his wishes. We appreciated his patience and flexibility while my sister and I had a sense of urgency and excitement that we were getting things done for him! We have his info to follow up in a week, after we return home, for Justin and his team to help our pops more. Bianca is absolutely lovely and we enjoyed getting to know and support the family business. I'd recommend giving him a call for a free quote anytime you need some assistance. He has HVAC and plumbing experience and can help find other folks eager for work and specializing in, just in case Justin can't do it.... What else can I say? I highly recommend for him and we will be calling on Justin's services again. My pops house is over 100 years old and my dad is nearly 80, needing a handyman's help every once in a while.
