She is now 4.5 years old is has been thriving there. What helped us choose Sunshine over other schools is it that it is play-based. You won't see kids mindlessly doodling on worksheets. Children are engaged in learning colors, letters and number concepts through singing, stories, art and use of manipulatives. What more, is that while children are learning the academics they are having so much fun! They really promote a love for learning. Even more important, at least in my view, is that Sunshine is creating great little citizens by continually fostering social skills such as sharing and positive conflict resolution. The four teachers there are amazing! I am in awe of how patient and kind they treat each of the children. I was initially worried about my somewhat shy daughter transitioning, however, she took immediately to Miss Heather and now says they are all her favorite ;) Sunshine is really a community of amazing parents, children and teachers. We have made some great friendships which I expect to continue even after my daughter graduates this summer. Some pertinent info about Sunshine: Attendance can vary from part time to full time M-W 8AM-5:30PM with tuition based accordingly. Children who stay for the afternoon bring their lunches. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided. I think breakfast is provided for those that get there around 8AM. I have yet to perfect getting out the door before 8:30 with two kids. :) Tuition is very reasonable in comparison to similar schools. The site is located across from Alvarado park, very close to the beginning of the Arlington, a short distance from the freeway. We commute from El Sobrante and it takes ~10 minutes.

There are frequent field trips, potlucks, and children's birthday parties, so we feel like we've gotten to know the families here much more than we would at another school. I am consistently blown away by the teachers and the joy they bring to school. They recently found a wandering African side-neck turtle on their doorstep, and my son came home full of stories about it. They turned it into the East Bay Vivarium, but took pictures and turned the whole process into a learning experience. Children here feel safe and loved and heard and I cannot dream of a better place for my children.

We made it out for the visit, the owner was very nice in person and the site was what we were looking for, so we decided we wanted to move forward with her as we needed care asap. We sent her the dates and times that we need as requested and also my email. She replied with a long welcome paragraph and wrote that there would be more info to follow via email. She stated she would be sending documents for us to review and also to fill the following Monday. We followed up and she replied that she would be sending them the following day. we waited for the next day but nothing, so we followed up again with our intent to get all required docs filled out and to send payment as soon as possible. she replied stating she would be sending something shortly. the entire day went by and nothing. We attempted to follow up a couple more times and it was no reply after that. This delayed our search for childcare as we needed it within a week of our first meeting. We would have appreciated the common courtesy to just get denial via text or even a call. We would have been able to keep our search going. We found it very unprofessional and also bizarre as she appeared very nice in person. I honestly don't know if we triggered her in some way, we were polite through all interactions and wanted to get her everything required to enroll our daughter. If she would have just told us no or that she did not want our business, we would have been fine and moved on. we would have appreciated not wasting our time or hers. I would give zero stars if I could.

Each week they get to practice writing, coloring, cooking, science, experiments, sharing toys from home, and extracurricular activities like gymnastics, martial arts, music and much more! The facility is impeccably clean and organized, with toys and activities presented in rotation to keep them stimulated and engaged. My son is strong willed and easily one of the most stubborn individuals I've ever met, but the staff here handled him with grace and helped guide him to foster excellent social and listening skills.
