Andy and his team painted the cabinets and interior of my house about 3 years ago and did a fantastic job, so when we moved and planned to paint the new house I knew exactly who I was going to call. Andy and Priscilla are super easy to communicate with and their team works extremely hard and are very clean, which made living life around the project super easy. We had an extremely nightmarish experience with the most unscrupulous contractor we've had the misfortune of working with. After a number of issues, which I'll detail, he left our project without completing it and with significant delays along the way and is now demanding *full* payment, threatening us with a mechanical lien. It all started when we had our kitchen remodeled and our general contractor messed up the cabinet painting. So we hired Andy to paint our kitchen cabinets professionally plus a kitchen door and window. He was pleasant and eager to land our business but once he got it, he was anything but. Our door had a lot of peeling paint and dings and scuffs, and grimy caulking on the window. I asked if he was going to sand down the old, peeling paint but he said he would just put a special primer that would 'dissolve' the old peeling paint. It didn't sound right to me, but I let him start on the window. He did almost no prep - no sanding, no fixing scuffs and dents and no removing the old dirty caulking. When I asked him - he really did not like being questioned and got really irked when he realized he wasn't going to get away with cutting corners. He also told me he is going to charge for touch-up paint, which seemed reasonable to me. But imagine my shock when I saw in his invoice a charge of $460 for getting touch-up paint! Doing the touch-ups was already included in his scope- this was just for purchasing touch-up paint including $300 for trips to the paint store! He also got annoyed when I requested if he could try and install sooner as we had a graduation party planned. He accused me of 'micro-managing' him and that I ask too many questions. But it gets worse. Somehow he decided that completing our job to a good standard was not worth his effort. He sends me an email saying he will install the cabinet doors but not the handles. Wait what? Our cabinets would be unusable without handles and they would have scratches from trying to open them without handles. So this is how callous and vindictive Andy is. He comes the next day and is rushing to get the doors installed, and starts admonishing me for not having already emptied the kitchen counter, that the floors were dirty and that I should have not gone into the kitchen because "I was kicking up dust." I could not believe this was happening. He then gets enraged at something, dumps our cabinet doors and drawers on our porch and storms off. The next day he sends a termination letter with an invoice for the full cost of the cabinet refinishing and voiding all warranties! Fast forward a month and another painter has to finish the job. This guy actually spent a whole day meticulously prepping the door and window, sanding and filling up dents, which shows the kind of corners Andy was cutting. He is demanding the full payment for a job he did not complete and is placing a lien. Overall a painful, awful experience that I hope no-one else has to go through. read more

A. Meono Painting are true pros. Not my lowest bid, but a reasonable one, and he offered something that other painters didn't and that was to prime the whole house after it was prepped. The wood on the front of my house had been beaten by the Sun for 15 years, and it was cracked and splitting, and the paint was peeling off and it was in really bad shape. First they power-washed the whole two-story house. Then they did an excellent job filling in cracks and prepping the wood. Then they primed the whole house and used an extra thick primer on some of the wood on my porch. Andy is the owner, and his wife Priscilla worked with me on selecting colors and giving me computer renditions of what my house would look like with those colors on it... then actual large painted sample of the colors just to be sure... they have a great crew and are truly a pro operation. They used Sherwin-Williams best exterior paint "Emerald", and it turned out beautifully. They started on a Tuesday and were done Saturday. I would highly recommend A. Meono Painting. We talked to several painters in the East Contra Costa area to determine which firm would be the right fit. This is the most difficult trade to hire, as there are many underqualified contractors. Meono Paining stood out clearly from the pack: the owner, Andy Meono impressed us with his knowledge of the industry and conditions in the area; he had local examples of his work to visit and impressed us with a no-shortcut approach to prepping our house.  But most importantly, Andy is on the job and a problem solver. When we decided to paint our house, Andy's contact info was given to me and the person who had her house painted raved about the great job he did. From the moment I contacted him about the paint job, everything was so easy to do- from scheduling the start date to choosing colors and any questions we had. The nice touch was the email that followed-- an itemized invoice-- to show the project he was going to undertake. I'm a huge texter and so a lot of our contact was through texting and email. After completing a 90 minute walk through of Andy's job of painting the inside of my 2,800 sqft house, I must say that he and his crew did truly outstanding work. I'm more of a DIY type, but from time to time, I've hired contractors for particular tasks (reluctantly). I was very, very impressed with Andy and his crew. I had hired another contractor to paint several rooms in my house. My wife and I had spent the weekend buying paint, taking down window coverings, moving furniture away from the walls, taking down pictures, etc. Well, the day came for the contractor to show up and he totally blew me off. Didn't show up, made excuses, and finally bailed on the job. At that point, we had the paint and rooms ready, but no painter. So, I started calling painters. When I called Andy, he responded immediately. When I explained my predicament, he came right over to provide me an estimate. We set a date for his crew to come. First, they were ON TIME. I don't believe I've ever had a contractor show up on time before, but here he was, ready to work. His crew was extremely courteous, introducing themselves, shaking hands with me, and getting right to work. I expected the job to take two days, but Andy brought in add'l crew during the afternoon and got the job finished in one day. No extra charge. In a nutshell, here were my takeaways: The job: Professional and quality work. Totally worth the price, especially when I saw the lengths Andy and his crew went to in order to ensure a quality job. We were not disappointed in the least. The crew: On time, polite and professional, took great care to ensure paint didn't get on our floor, furniture, etc and took care that nothing would get broken. They were fast, but thorough. The owner: Andy is a pro, through and through. He communicates proactively, he runs his crew efficiently, and he ensures the customer is satisfied. I never ONCE had to wonder what was going on with our project. Andy was always 2 jumps ahead of whatever was needed. I would definitely hire Andy again. In fact, I won't use any other painter. He really came to our rescue after our issue with the other contractor. In fact, I'm grateful to the contractor who ran out on our job. If he hadn't bailed on us, we'd have never met and hired Andy. One last thing to note: The name of Andy's business contains his last name. No aliases or catchy names. He puts his name on his work. It's obvious he takes great pride in what he does. I'd never met Andy before he took on our painting project, but again, I'm extremely impressed. The only reason I'm giving him 5 stars is that it's the highest possible on Yelp.
