Suggins has always been reliable, and they have rarely disappointed. 3 long-time friends and l met there last week for lunch. I ordered the catfish dinner with onion rings and slaw. My friends ordered the nacho platter, fried-chicken on a fresh salad, and fried mushrooms with fruit, One person had a special request with her order, and our server listened and honored her request. The servers are so very busy, and yet this very nice woman heard and accommodated her. Their fish platter is a generous serving of perfectly fried fish, plus their cole slaw is delicious. Their onion rings are wonderful, and the portion is also generous. For my $18 or so, l actually had another (almost) full meal, reheating the remaining fish and onion rings that I brought home. The price seems steep for a small neighborhood restaurant, but the servings are well worth the expense. Their fried mushrooms are as delicious as any l have ever had. Their nachos are wonderful; I disagree with the extra charge for queso, but l would order their nachos again without hesitation. Their house salad is one of my favorites, but priced too high considering the very basic ingredients. I ordered these for decades, but don't anymore. Their banana peppers are wonderful, and a great price. The tacos are not all that. They're skimpy and boring; l'll not order them again. Suggin's has been a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. It's obviously a popular restaurant as it was packed, but not my kind of place. I didn't choose it, and went along with the choice. The menu didn't inspire me. I decided to order the hal order of the Hot Brown. It wasn't very good, but I powered through it. The burger, ordered by the person who chose the place, looked excellent. Looking for some place comfortable with a neighborhood feel, this is the place. Nestled in between homes and a few businesses. The atmosphere is great, nice size bar area on one side with tall tables to eat from. Other side is set up with tables and booths. Food was so good actually eat there twice. Had the Suggins special which was a 10oz new York strip, baked potato and steamed broccoli. My wife had the opened face roast beef with fried okra. So much flavor in both dishes. Real fresh mashed potatoes. They also have chicken and fish along with Specials for the day. Price is very reasonable. The wait to eat was not long either. Wow ! What a hidden gem ! We went there for lunch and the food was delicious ! I got the livers.....onion rings and mashed potatoes. This is the first restaurant in Lexington that got the temperature of the livers and onion rings perfect! They were hot but not to hot ! The chef hit the nail on the head ! I came here for lunch today and had the "Bowl Plus" which is Chili with tortilla chips. It was very good. I have had their chili at some chili cook offs in the past. It's pretty standard as far Chili goes. Nothing out of the ordinary here. It's actually just like the chili that my dad has always made. Ground beef, tomatoes, onions and beans. The only thing different is that they put sliced jalapeños in it. The tortilla chips are a nice touch. Overall their food is good but average. It a nice neighborhood bar and restaurant. For some reason, I always forget about AP Suggins. We had friends from MI in town recently who were visiting KY for the very first time so we wanted a place that served both beer cheese and a hot brown. Suggins checked both boxes so we stopped in on a Friday evening. We had a party of 6 but they seated us right away. We had the beer cheese appetizer, which was a hit with all the new tasters. 4 of the 6 people in our party had the hot brown. I had a veggie plate because I love all the different options Suggins has for veggies. You don't get that kind of variety in sides many places so I had to take advantage of it. Enjoyed eating here for a Christmas lunch with co-workers. We had a large group (12) and they didn't take reservations but we got there by 11:30 and had no problem getting a table for our whole group. We ordered two appetizers- the cheese fries ( loved these) and the beer cheese with pretzels. For my entree I ordered catfish with a side of mac n cheese and the signature salad. The mac n cheese was my favorite item ( so creamy and cheesey) followed by the salad ( such a large side salad full of bacon, cheese, egg) ...I was a little disappointed with the catfish. Unpopular review, I know. I guess if you're going here for mediocre bar food, it's probably okay, but if you want good food, this isn't it. I got 4 vegetable plate and could only eat 2 of them. My catfish was fresh and flaky, but I didn't care so much for their breading. My snap peas and carrots were tasty, but a bit over-cooked. Charming neighborhood restaurant where you just feel at home. It's a place you can expect kind service and comforting food. We stop in from time to time to grab dinner after taking a walk around the neighborhood. The bartenders, hosts and servers all seem to know and care for their regulars. It's heartwarming to see. I got a burger and the nachos supreme appetizer. We ordered queso with the nachos and the waitress forgot to bring it. Probably because she didn't write down our order. But the table behind us ordered the Hot Brown, so I changed my order to that. And I'm glad I did!!!! It was amazing!! I haven't had one in years, my first one was actually one I made in high school. Always dependable quality "hometown" bar & grill. We've been going to A P Suggins for decades, usually specifically for their fried banana peppers, which are whole, long-sliced authentic style peppers copiously coated (not scant, flaky) breaded & deep-fried, and always worth the trip, paired with a cold beer. Their catfish sandwich is also delicious, but they offer a good variety of other items I just haven't ever tried, like filet mignon, their version of the "hot brown", jumbo fried shrimp, and a good variety of salads & sandwiches. Reasonably priced, quiet atmosphere, great hometown service, primarily populated by local residents. It can get busy sometimes, especially on game days, but there are seating options (booths & tables) and a small patio, so there is plenty of room, even in today's social-distancing environment. Highly recommended as a dependable, go-to bar & grill, and one of very few places in this town that serve fried banana peppers. read more

For my first time here, it is WAAAAAAAY overrated. I ordered the Mahi Mahi dinner. $16.95 Overcooked, very thin, not served with a lemon, tarter sauce etc. just disappointed.
