Ilya, Take those pictures down of my grandparents desk. You caused me great stress. I told you I was looking for new hardware to replace the existing. After you stained it you jammed an ornate hook into the key hole and put the old hardware back on. It left imprints into the wood. You can see it now after I had to have someone else put the new hardware on. The stain is beautiful but you didn't listen to what I said. The first thing you did when I came was check the envelope for the cash without an apology. And if you try to say you have no record of me, I have the receipt and the pic of the desk in my house. A very poor experience! I dropped off an antique tray top table with a beautiful wood grain. Ilya at Phoenix used brown paint to "refinish" the wood frame of the tray, ruining it. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, I was told I would not get my table back if I did not pay for it, even in its ruined condition I still wanted it back so I paid. Every time I look at it I'm sad. We have a roche bobois couch that is really cool and in great shape. But at our ages it has become way too low to the ground for us. We were determined to chuck it and get a new couch. Then we decided to see if someone could custom build some longer legs for the couch. We got several outrageous estimates and then a very reasonable one from A Phoenix. I had a two piece dresser set from the 1940s that was damaged and discolored. It was originally my grandmothers and in pictures it was an antique white. Throughout the years the color had changed to a yellow gold and slightly damaged . Because of the craftsmanship I couldn't part with these dressers. I called Ilya and sent him pictures. He quoted me a price and they came to pick up the dressers. After waiting around six weeks the dressers were ready and delivered. I could have never been more pleased with the way they turned out. They refinished the top of my dining room table. It's rattan so it has many crevices. My table is 33 years old and I love it. It came back looking brand-new! Exactly the same finish as the legs and the chairs. It was tricky to do. First it needed to be painted. Then a dye wiped on and off the painted surface to give it a white washed look. I can't believe they were able to EXACTLY duplicate the original finish. The owner himself came to pick up my table and leaf, and delivered it when done. He is such a pleasant, jovial man. And he really knows his stuff. I can't say enough about his quality work. He's an artist! read more

I sent the same pictures to other vendors with the same descriptions and they were able to provide me quotes without any additional information. I get that whatever you quote me can change when you see the product in person but if you have "25 years of experience" you should be able to give your potential customers an idea. This company wanted to charge me $120. Two other vendors quoted me $70 with the possibility of it being lower. Anyways, I was able to glue the piece I needed repaired myself. All I needed was sandpaper and acrylic cement which cost about $16. It took me about 15 minutes in total. Maybe they saw a girl in her 20s and thought they could mark up the price, or maybe they're not in the business of helping their customers as they claim but in the business of helping themselves. read more

The reason I chose this restoration company was due to the Yelp reviews and comments made from some of our friends who had good experiences. However, our experience was pretty poor; bordering on fraud. To sum it up, we paid $1200 for an antique table to be refurbished that will have to be re-refurbished by a different company. Here's the story... Before I had the table delivered to A Phoenix Art Woodworks, I called and asked for an estimate based on the table dimensions. I was quoted a little over $900. After the table was delivered, the company told me they would need to charge $1200 because they did not realize the table was so big. I went ahead and agreed to the price because it would have been a hassle and it would have been costly to have the table re-delivered to another store. My wife wanted the table painted, and I was concerned the paint would chip, so I called the company and voiced my concerns. I was told they used very high-quality paints and as long as I didn't put very hot plates on the surface it should be fine. About 1 month after the table was delivered, my young daughter leaned on it and caused a deep crack along the entire length of the table. I sent 2 emails to the company with pictures and received no reply. Eventually, I had a conversation with the company and was informed there was nothing they could do because of the structure of the table. This is something that I should have been informed of prior to spending $1200. read more

I inherited a cedar chest made 150 years ago by my gr. great grandfather. After many moves, it was very banged up and had a large crack on the top. The owner, Ilya, assured me he could refinish it and repair the damage. Let me tell you, he did an absolutely WONDERFUL job restoring this chest, which is really a piece of my family history. He fixed the piece of the frame that was broken, painted the area so it looked good as new, helped me put the bed back together and finished in less than an hour. We engaged the company to repaint a wooden table. We informed them that this will be a kitchen table and must be durable. They promised at least 3 coats of protection. Within about 90 days this has happened. Most of the time we have used a table cloth. However while washing the table cloth, a newspaper with a glass was left on the table for less than 30 minutes. A nonremovable stain was left. We called the company and a person came to see us. His argument was how we "abused the product" and the paint was made in the USA so it was good. In addition he started to point minute scratches proving we abused the product. We did not abuse the table, used as a kitchen table with a table cloth with no children in the house. We had told him this was to be a kitchen table and had to be durable when we hired the company. His solution was to pay him to redo the paint or just live with it. His quote. We have custom made african mahogany kitchen cabinets that needed to be refinished after 24 years. I had very high hopes based upon my interview with this company. However, I now have to admit to having made a serious mistake. First, they stained the doors and drawer fronts with a heavy stain, almost completely masking the beautiful woodgrain and also using the wrong color from what we specifically requested. Second, the trim around the doors and drawer fronts were done in a materially different color from the doors and drawer fronts. When we pointer that out ( why did we need to do that??? ) the "fix" was to apply a dark gel type stain that ended up looking like a faux grain that you could expect to get from a Mr. Fix-It handyman..NOT someone who holds himself out to be a craftsman. Our corian countertop was damaged and when we pointed THIS out, the response was simply: "the countertops are old anyway..." REALLY??? We held back a small amount to repair this damage and were assured that his "corian repair guy" would take care of this. Then, we noticed that a drawer front was put on backwards...meaning that the true front now was damaged with 4 screw holes. Worst part of this bad situation is that they NEVER RETURNED TO COMPLETE THE JOB AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE. At first, I got assurances they would be back. Then, my calls were simply left unanswered. Nobody should ever give this company serious consideration for a job of any importance. Either they do not know how to do a professional job or they just don't care!!! Either way, this is unacceptable. read more
