Kirk Wade was awesome. I received my first speeding ticket in nearly 20 years for going over the 25…read moremph limit. I pleaded not guilty in hopes of avoiding points on my license, and the judge suggested I attend driving school. Unsure of what to expect, I met Kirk and immediately found him personable and down to earth. We chatted about his business and my occupation. He was surprised to learn that despite my build--more like an NFL offensive lineman than an NBA player--I am a college professor. Kirk explained the driving course to me, which felt like retaking my driver's exam from when I was 17. I drove through the course, which included the Washington Driver's License Center, the Home Depot parking lot, and public roads. Confident I had done well, I was surprised when Kirk told me I had failed the test four times. However, he added that I was the closest to passing he had seen in a long time and noted that no adult has ever passed the test. My mistakes included pulling over the white line at stop signs and going 5 mph over the speed limit in the parking lot. These errors, along with my initial speeding ticket, highlighted the importance of paying attention to the details. Kirk emphasized how much time and money I had spent dealing with the ticket, magistrate visits, driving school, and other related tasks, teaching me the value of punctuality and attention to detail. Our conversation was enlightening, and I am grateful for the experience as it opened my eyes to better driving habits. Since the training, I no longer speed, despite the middle fingers and honking I receive from other drivers. I even discussed having Kirk teach my daughter how to drive, as I believe it would be more effective than if my wife or I did it. After completing the 90-minute session, I drove the course five more times and am now confident I can pass. I look forward to doing it again, knowing I've got it down.

This company has been a nightmare since the moment the funds were taken out of my account! First I…read morecalled this company and asked specific questions regarding the hours of driving lessons as my child doesn't get home from school till 4pm. They informed me that their instructors all work full time jobs and that this was a part time gig for them so lessons could be taught and would be taught at 5pm or later. After weeks of not hearing anything from this company I reached out and asked what the next steps were and when my son would start his lessons. She apologized and said she would reach out to the instructor. The instructor text me and stated he would text my son that day around 4pm. He never did. So I waited another day goes by and still nothing. When I reached out to the company asking if he could get a new instructor thinking the guy just had to many lessons on his plate the lady lost it. She was very aggressive towards me telling me that maybe she should just refund me my money minus a fee. I told her I would not be paying a fee because they lacked communication and professionalism. Fast forward he finally started his lessons which never last a full hour. He would be back in 45 min. The instructor started last driving app would be 3:30pm On the last lesson I specifically asked when he would receive his certificate and the driver said after he submits his hours ect it would be mailed to me. This was at the second week of November. I waited and reached out not once, not twice but 3x and asking when I would it with no response I finally got a text a week later with a picture of it. Then when I reached out asking for an actual copy of it they stated I would have to pay $50 for it. This driving school is a joke with hostile ppl working for them.

I called to get information, left a message which took more than 2 business days for a return call…read more I paid on the spot and was assigned an instructor. Was told to give him a few days to contact me, if that didn't happen, I was free to call him directly. I did, and left another message. Six days later, I received a text from the instructor offering the first session the following Sunday at 8:30. On that Sunday, my son, husband and I sat waiting for his arrival. When he was 15 minutes late, I texted him because the office was closed. He replied an hour later, saying that he'd be at our house the next day at 3:00. I got him on the phone, to learn he was out of town and wrote the lesson on the wrong date in his calendar. Monday afternoons weren't possible for us so we rescheduled for the following Sunday. He did arrive that day. Texted from the street that he was here. Didn't approach the house, didn't talk to us about how the program would go. When they returned, I noticed the car in front of the house with the hood up. My son reported that they had to pull over 4 times because the car overheated. Based on timing, we scheduled the 5th lesson and official exam the same day. He successfully passed, and was told that he would receive a certificate, which the insurance company requires for the program discount. He passed the test on March 16. March 27 I sent my second unanswered email to the School address, inquiring when the certificate would arrive. They never did reply. It arrived in the mail on April 24. If I really needed my son to learn how to drive, this would have been a terrible program. Thankfully we taught him, but put him through this painful process to satisfy the insurance company. If your school doesn't have a program, I would not recommend this one.

Well worth the cost, time and effort I put forth in bringing my at-risk, teen driver to Jim Clair's school. BTW, unsure what's going on with the 1-star review below. I bet that's one of your competitors, Jim. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, BROTHER! http://www.ultimatedefensivedriving.us

What a terrible experience with the Ultimate Defensive Driving School and the owner James Clair…read more I'm not a great driver; I speed, I roll through stop signs, I am that jag off that cuts you off. But I've never been in an accident (fingers crossed!) and I've managed to sweet talk my way out of tickets. I decided that with the prospect of having kids staring me down the barrel, I should learn good habits and actually better my driving. My own attempts have been in vain. The SEO (aka, the best google results) were for the Ultimate Defensive Driving School. I elected not to contact other schools as this one proudly stated it was Veteran Owned. Hey! I've got a family of veterans and I'm marrying one soon. Seemed like a great fit for me. I sent them an email; heard a prompt reply to call them. (What? Why? Is this 1984?) So I did, spoke to the receptionist, spoke to the owner. He asked, I answered questions about my situation. He told me he'd get back to me with a schedule of availability and rates and times, etc. A full day later, I received an email saying "It's $150 for one 90 minute session". I replied asking for time slots available, as I work from home 4 days/week. I also made a joke about how that's pricier than my attorney, would he be willing to work with me given the winter season is a slow time and my flexible schedule? I offered to pay for 3 sessions in advance A nasty, angry reply immediately was in my inbox from James. "No, we don't discount or negotiate. It would cheapen our services". And then, a sarcastic middle finger statement of "Best of luck in your training". Sounds like somebody's got a case of the PTSD Mondays............. UPDATE: 9/21/15 Owner's comment is below. He is challenging the veracity of my statements - as in, calling me a liar. I am more than willing to post screenshots of the emails to validate my statements - being told to call, then getting an email in response to my call and his sarcastic reply. My husband is an honorably discharged veteran; as per my earlier review, that's why I chose to go with them in the first place.
