I am flabbergasted by the 5 star reviews of this place. Our room was uncomfortable, had a terrible odor and the owner was rude beyond belief.
I have never posted a review to Yelp but our experience here was so deplorable I felt like I should warn others. We stayed in the Villa Paradisio, for which we paid $379.99 a night.
The B&B is billed as a "luxury" destination, but there was absolutely nothing luxurious about our room.
The ergonomics were not good at all. The bathroom in this unit has two doors, one opening to the bedroom and the other opening to the kitchen. The furniture is set up in a way to make the 'walkways' throughout the space very narrow and difficult to navigate with luggage. Or without, to be honest.
Throughout the space there are so many throw pillows that are gross. Just gross. They are old and tired and smell. The rugs are as well. It made the entire space smell moldy and old.
The bedroom armoire smelled like mildew and the furniture was tired and so uncomfortable. The comforter on our bed could not possibly have been washed prior to our stay and we layered towels over the sheets to keep warm.
The ambience in this suite is bizarre to say the least. It's like the decorators couldn't decide between Southwestern décor and Early Plastic Flowers. There are so many dust-collecting plastic florals and old wool pillows & rugs that my allergies flared up within minutes. Bowls of plastic flowers litter the table surfaces so it's hard to comfortably place items on the kitchen table or living room side tables.
Honestly? So much of this could have been overlooked. I removed the throw pillows from the couch, slept under towels. I was really okay with that. But when I tried to discuss some concerns with the male proprietor he told me my allergies were not dust, but flaring up due to the region, even though we'd been in 'the region' for a week. When I also told him that we were awoken prior at 6:30AM from the sounds in the kitchen below--the clanging of pans and general noise of a kitchen waking up for work at a B&B-- he looked at me like I had ten heads. Like no guest had ever mentioned this before, which I find impossible to believe. I also mentioned how I slept with towels on the bed instead of the bedspread because there was no way it was clean upon our arrival and he said--and this is a direct quote--"I don't know what to tell you." His exact words. This is the owner's son, I remind you. A key manager at the Sunset Chateau "LUXURY" B&B, and he didn't know what to tell me. He just took my credit card and swiped it for payment. So, yeah. I was disappointed.
I do feel sorry for anyone who wastes their money on this room. Other rooms might be superior, though I heard a couple complaining about the same things I'm writing here as they were packing their car. How this B&B has so many 4 and 5 star reviews is baffling. This is not luxury. Nothing about our stay was luxurious (except the double-spray shower, which was lovely). Although the towels were worn and old and not what I expected from a luxury establishment.
Also, just as a general navigation tip, the entire B&B is built on a slope so this is definitely not a good destination if you struggle with knee, ankle or walking problems. read more
