A Taste of Philly is my "Holy Grail" and "Brigadoon" of Philly Sandwhich shops. It seems to have materialized out of the ether (only becoming visible when I wasn't looking for it ). This place is most definitely on my top 5 list in the rankings of "Best Philly cheesesteak in Georgia." I have been driving around looking for this place since I came to the area for work about a month ago. It's hard to find because it seems to be hidden in plain sight in a nondescript store front in the old town / Main Street area of downtown Vidalia. The small store is a mom and pop operation and they ship their bread in from Philadelphia on a daily or weekly rotation. The particular sandwich I had was phenomenal (all the way cheese steak with hot peppers). I wanted a cheese steak sub. A good cheese steak sub and I found one. I had to go to Vidalia, GA but it was worth the drive. From the outside storefront facade to the small homey interior, it was a delight. I was welcomed by Ms. Annette Collins and Chef/Grill Master Matthew. Ms. Annette carefully, correctly, and efficiently took my order. With guidance from Grill Master Matthew. The wait was approximately 10 minutes and the result was a masterwork. Soooooo yummy! So huge!! So much steak!!! I can't wait to come back and try the cupcakes as well as every other sub on the menu. And I will. This is my second favorite sub shop outside of Dublin, GA's Brian's Giant Subs. The owner was nice and welcoming. I got a beef Philly with onions, peppers, mushrooms, sweet peppers, salt and pepper and cheese. The sandwich was made to order and had an abundance of meat and toppings, but the cheese could not be found even though it was there and it lacked seasoning. The food was not greasy at all. I wanted to try the Italian, but the cutter had been cleaned for the day. I will be going back to give them another try so I can try the Italian and make adjustments to my Philly. Next time I will add double or triple cheese so I get it in every bite. I wish they offered fries. read more

This little hole in the wall is the best sub place in town. They have their signature Mrs. Pie sub that is both chicken and steak with all the fixings you want on it. I get mine with triple cheese, all the cold toppings, and all the other toppings but mushrooms, and for the peppers I get jalapeños. If you're looking for some good eating in Vidalia I highly recommend this place. The people here are amazing as well. They're always very kind and they've never gotten my order wrong once. read more

Everything is cooked fresh to order, meat sliced fresh before you, with an impressive selection of toppings, piled high on hoagie rolls the owner has flown in every week from Philly...his hometown! It is authentic as it gets! This place is cash or check only and there are no tables, just takeout. Be sure to put on your bib and have tons of napkins on hand because these sandwiches are a glorious, delicious, spectacular mess! Nice, friendly folks, clean open kitchen, the most delicious food you could ask for, doesn't take credit cards, yep, this place is as "Mom and Pop" as it gets. Home for Easter and just didn't feel like leftovers so we gave this place a try based on Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere is basic hole in wall. No money spent on fancy upgrades here, but everything was clean. The people were super friendly. Another customer actually opened up their sandwich to show us how it looked. It looked amazing. We went with the MIS pie. It is chicken, steak, peppers, cheese, onions, mushrooms, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes on a hoagie roll. It was a delicious mess. Ate it with a fork. The bread was perfect. The meat was real, not steak um. The cheese and mayo were messy and fantastic. I will eat here every time I come to vidalia. Call ahead and it will be waiting. read more

This is for the Swainsboro location. Easily the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had. I've gone twice and I'm hooked. The sandwiches are stuffed full of great quality meat cooked and cut up to perfection. If you're going through and need a great philly, you can't go wrong here. I prefer the cheesesteak with triple cheese. They almost give you too much meat, but you'll be eating every morsel of it. The staff is friendly and makes the Phillies exactly how you want it. OK.....this place is where all the emergency crews and locals in the know go to get sliced beef ribeye meat ( not cheap fatty gristly meat) with whatever else you want piled on it... The owner is a true devotee of REAL Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, and long time resident of Philadelphia.... As such he actually has fresh baked bread flown in FROM Philadelphia several times a week which he or a family member pick up at the Atlanta airport... If you're feeling really hungry ask him to fix you his wife's favorite sandwich..a steak and chicken cheese steak sandwich... Was wanting to grab something quick before my interview at Dot Foods and did a quick Yelp search since I'm an out-of-towner. Turned out to be the right choice. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and the menu was pretty extensive for a dive. As I waited for my cheesesteak with peppers and onions to be brought to the counter, I suddenly read where they only accepted cash. So I asked the owner to direct me to an ATM because I only had a five dollar bill in my pocket. Do you know he let me take the sandwich and come back later and pay? Now that was an awesome gesture and I returned 30 minutes later with the cash plus a great tip. And oh BTW, the sandwich was awesome! read more

To start off, the owner was a thrill to meet. He didn't leave me wandering about the menu, he figured I was there to try a cheesesteak. He asked the questions and I simply gave answers and from that a massive footling was created. While waiting about 6 mins for my sandwich to be made the owner stayed engaged in conversation with me. REALLY ENJOYED!! The sandwich had a good taste and was loaded with flavors, some preferred and some not so much. BUT, I would return to do it again!
