Our wedding was not logistically easy (e.g., separate ceremony and reception venues, guests staying at a myriad of hotels throughout NYC, disparate rehearsal dinner and post-wedding brunch locations), but Jessica never once complained or described any request as out of the scope of her contract, though many requests were. Moreover, Jessica included every wedding event in her contract (including the wedding rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and brunch), whereas other planners whom we interviewed would not. Specifically, these are a few examples of ways in which our wedding presented challenges, which Jessica confronted with total grace (never flustered or overwhelmed): 1) It was the first wedding of such a large size to take place at our wedding venue. Jessica's creativity had us using every inch of space. 2) We had the ceremony at a nearby historic synagogue, which was strict regarding permissible ceremony alterations and decorations. 3) We wanted the whole event to be kosher, including at the reception venue, which does not have many kosher wedding. Jessica was incredibly helpful in partnering with our kosher caterer who had to build out a separate temporary kitchen. 4) The "Head of Events" at our reception venue changed three times after we signed our contract. Jessica made friends with everyone, which ensured us that we would have a successful wedding celebration even though there was little continuity with the venue's personnel. 5) We wanted assigned seats for each guest, so each seat had a personalized menu. 6) There were three different spaces we wanted to use at the venue, and each had to be decorated and prepared in a different style. 7) We had a big bridal party with 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen, who all had to be entertained and ready for pictures at different times. Jessica handled all of these obstacles and more with aplomb. Every interaction with Jessica was positive, solutions-oriented, and proactive. We could throw any issue her way and know that it would be handled efficiently and efficaciously. We were thrilled with our wedding. It was a magical night that we will never forget, and we owe Jessica BIG TIME for making it so special and for making the planning process more than tolerable--it was actually fun. She became my brain and I am unbelievably impressed with her talent. Right from the get-go, Nicole made sure everything was in one place and organized, putting together an online folder of all our documents, the timeline, the outstanding questions, and pictures of ideas on Google Drive. From there, Nicole was always available to answer our questions; whether we sent an email first thing in the morning, late at night, or over the weekend, Nicole was always there to respond promptly, even for the ridiculous questions, tiniest details, or confirmations we asked for three, four, and more times. She also made our lives much easier in terms of taking over all the vendor communication and making sure each small detail was taken care of, especially the last few weeks leading up to the wedding; she made working with nearly a dozen different vendors and coordinating all of those moving pieces seem easy! Aside from the coordination itself, we also hired Nicole to help out with the design and decor to help our vision come to life. While we had an idea of how we wanted our wedding to feel, we had no idea how to make it happen. Nicole was constantly giving us ideas, sending over examples, and offering to provide various pieces that she had available. Ultimately, everything came together perfectly and we couldn't have had the feel and charm that our big day had without Nicole helping us make our vision a reality. In terms of the weekend of, we literally could not have pulled everything off without Nicole. She came out on Friday afternoon without us even asking her to and helped with setting up our rehearsal dinner as well as walking our bridal party and families through the rehearsal. On one hand, after being surrounded by brides/weddings for the past 7 years, I was almost "weddinged-out" and wanted to basically hand my wedding planning over to someone else to deal with. On the other hand, I knew that the kind of wedding I wanted wasn't going to be easy to plan and that I had some fairly specific ideas about what I wanted. I made a few appointments with established wedding planners I had worked with in the past and for good measure, googled and read reviews to make appointments with a few newcomers. After an exhausting day of being interviewed about my wedding and receiving totally extravagant and ridiculous quotes, I met Michelle. Walking into her townhouse/office was so calming and I immediately felt better. She had comfy couches and an array of snacks and drinks out on the table (which seems like a small thing but after meetings with planners who just sat me down at a desk in their office and were on their laptop the whole time, it was nice to feel like someone prepared for me). There was a slideshow of ideas going on the big screen on the wall that had been prepared just for our wedding based on what I told her when we talked on the phone the day before. We chatted for about an hour. She was incredibly friendly and warm and I felt like she would be on top of the details without being pushy. As compared to some other planners who charge a percentage of what you are spending on your wedding AND limit you as to the amount of e-mails etc, you can send them, Michelle was a breath of fresh air. Her package was basically all-inclusive and was a flat rate, not based on how much we were spending. I signed up the next day. During the planning process, Michelle and her team were amazing. Not annoying, not pushy, very laid back and took care of a lot of details behind the scenes without me having to deal with them. I could not have asked for a more fun planning process and I was able to enjoy every minute without being bogged down by details. Michelle screened every vendor and presented us with the top choices in every category that fit into our budget and style. She made all the appointments and dealt with all the contracts and negotiations. She was so good a picking vendors that I booked the first vendor in every category without needing to see more. On the day of our wedding, Michelle was truly a gift. I knew (from talking to people afterwards) that there were things Michelle dealt with and catastrophies she was able to avoid without me knowing anything. I partied, ate, and enjoyed my day without having to deal with ANYTHING. She basically ran the entire day. My fiance and I agree she was worth every penny and so much more. She seemed to be everywhere at once - managing the flow of the day, dealing with guest questions, wrangling vendors and setting up photo shots. One second she's cueing the 2nd course and the next minute she's on the floor buckling someone's shoe before a picture - no joke. One of my bridesmaids complained off-handidly about her feet hurting and Michelle produced a pair of silver flats she had a bunch of just in case. We had a perfect wedding day and enjoyed every bit of it and 100% of the credit goes to her.

My Experience with Happy Planning Events: A Cautionary Review…read more I am writing this to share my honest experience with Tanya from Happy Planning Events, in hopes of helping others avoid the stress and disappointment I went through. My wedding venue was ultimately canceled due to poor communication on Tanya's part and her failure to clearly explain basic contractual terms. As a professional planner, she should have guided me through the process with clarity and transparency--but instead, I was left confused and misinformed. What was promised to be a "stress-free" planning experience turned into the opposite--Tanya created more mess and work for me than she solved. She lacked basic organization and attention to detail, especially on the day of the wedding. Rather than focusing on ensuring my day went smoothly, she appeared more interested in networking with my vendors for her future business than in making sure my event was successful. She failed to keep track of our pre-planned schedule, which led to major moments being missed--including my father-daughter dance and bouquet toss. Throughout the night, she seemed more concerned about eating and staying in the air-conditioned venue than checking in with me or my husband or making sure the timeline was on track. From the beginning, Tanya made promises she didn't deliver on. I hired her as a day-of coordinator six months before the wedding. While I only paid for day-of services, she insisted on helping earlier in the process--which I initially appreciated, since this was my first wedding. However, within just two months of giving her contact information to my venue, she had already caused enough frustration with the property manager that I had to step in myself. By that point, the damage was done--he canceled our contract two months before the wedding. Thankfully, I was able to find another venue, but even then, Tanya again managed to upset the new property manager. Multiple vendors and both venue managers told me the same thing: "Your planner is very unprofessional and doesn't understand the basics of wedding planning." Despite their warnings, I held onto hope that she would follow through on the day of. Sadly, she didn't. When it came to execution, there was no flow. As the officiant, she failed to ask the DJ for a microphone (which was readily available), resulting in guests not being able to hear the ceremony. She also forgot to ask guests to stand when I walked down the aisle--something we specifically discussed in advance. A guest had to step in and call it out. Tanya is what I would call a "yes" planner--quick to agree, but slow (or unable) to follow through. I constantly had to remind her of things and even suggest solutions myself. Her behavior lacked professionalism at every turn, and she did not have the knowledge or presence of a competent wedding coordinator. What's more, Tanya was seen vaping in front of my guests--completely unprofessional and inappropriate. When she finally did get on the microphone, instead of sharing important timeline information, she spent her time talking about moving cars--something that could've easily been handled off-mic and by someone else. In the end, my experience with Happy Planning Events was full of broken promises and unnecessary stress. Tanya appeared more focused on building vendor relationships than prioritizing her client's experience or staying within budget. I strongly urge anyone looking for a true professional to look elsewhere. Don't be fooled by the branding--this service has a long way to go before it lives up to the name.

Run don't walk!…read more Meena is seriously the BEST EVER. She has planned two events for us this year -- a large-scale party on Long Island and complex destination birthday party for 20 in Morocco. Meena blew us away. Her organization, attention to detail, artistic eye, command of vendors, ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances, and pragmatism make her incredibly special. For our Memorial Day Long Island party, Meena had to contend with unexpected winter-like conditions. She nimbly found a way to bring the DJ and games indoors and rented industrial strength heaters, making our outdoor tent as toasty as a cabin, all the while crafting an aesthetically stunning dining experience. Morocco required organizing the travel and logistics for 20 guests coming from around the world. This was complicated by pandemic-related restrictions that included nightly curfews in Morocco. Meena flawlessly adapted our trip so that we spent two days in the desert and surprised us with dune buggies for the group, fire performers, snake charmers, and a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the beautiful desert landscape. Meanwhile, she remembered little details like traveling with my favorite drinks and hot sauces at all times. Everyone who attended gushed about Meena's planning and considered this a once in a lifetime trip. Beyond that, Meena and her husband Philip are lovely people and a pleasure to work with. My only regret is we didn't meet her sooner. If you have the opportunity to work with Meena, you must!

So, when I began looking for an event planner, the first name that came to mind was Ruth Lapin. Actually, I should say, the ONLY name that came to mind was Ruth Lapin. You know what I'm saying? Anyone who has ever tried to coordinate something as "simple" as a toast at a cocktail gathering or even a child's birthday party understands that event planning can be an ordeal. It's like, "schedule,s, details and last minute emergencies, OH MY!" I have an event coming up, and thought of having to deal with the vendor, negotiate a decent price (by New York standards), vet the people who are doing the serving, the food prep and cooking, the teeny tiny details that start seeming like nails on a chalkboard, the whiners and criers, the family (and ALL their drams), the backup plan for an outdoor event (in case it should rain), etc ... Seriously, do you want to start playing the price game with the vendor who will only sell and deliver the specific napkins (or the personalized t-shirts) if you buy a minimum of some crazy number that's 100 times more than you actually have use for? Moreover, Ruth has exquisite tastes. And, most importantly, she takes the time to talk to you, listen and really understand what it is that you want, not what she thinks you should want. So I'm always confident that what she's going to come back with, and suggest is going to be conceived and created from my vision and my wants and needs. She also has such an eye for design, inevitably she's added some elements that you never considered because you didn't know enough to consider them. I love the vibe. I love the positive energy. I love the synergy of working together. Never once, in all the years I've worked with Ruth, has she disappointed me. In fact, quite the opposite. She's always impressed me in new and exciting ways. Ruth Lapin is who I want to be when I grow up!
