I pawned some jewelry 4 months ago and all went well. I easily could've gone somewhere else but I had a handful of stores I was checking out to find out which would loan me the most for the jewelry. I invested about $500 buying it all retail. I had it appraised for around $350. I pawned it for $150 to MCP without any negotiating. I came back 2 weeks later and retrieved it. A month later I go back and take the same exact jewelry, I was wanting to sell it instead of pawn it at this point. This time I get a different worker and he proceeds to test my jewelry for gold. Ok, no problem, I'm thinking. He does the test twice and goes to the back to talk to someone else. When he comes back from behind the doors, he tells me all of my jewelry is fake and he can't accept it..... WTF? Hell, I was actually thinking maybe it was fake. I thank him and leave. I drove to the next closest big pawn shop in Madison. I told them I wanted to sell my jewelry and they tested it as well and offered me $250 on the spot. Sold! This is why I say do your research & go to multiple places. Not only did they lowball the hell outta my loan the first time I pawned it but they tried to tell me it was fake the second time and wouldn't accept it. I had 3 other pawn shops verify it was real.
