Some people think it is overpriced, some do not. You can still receive comparative bargains for new items. Today it was two weighted blankets for $20, at least 50% lower than new at Walmart, not sure if that is their norm. I did not buy today. I have not been interested in buying anything there in a while, but I am also finally downsizing and more likely to take items in. Often see used, but retail bedding. I think it is a good place to find items you need for setting up a household. Regardless, twice monthly 50% off days are bargains and the parking lot will be full. Compare to some thrift stores they are higher priced, others lower priced. I believe they have a clothing credit for people in need. It appears there has recently been a turnover in staff and volunteers, and I am not sure what that is about. TBH, there have been many changes with Caring Hands in the last five years. TBH, a lot of the local donors don't have much to give and will donate crappy pieces. Caring Hands has to sort through that. Last I heard they donate the worst to DAV. Facebook Marketplace killed the "lucky find" thrift model for a lot of small towns combined with the current economy. For those struggling to make ends meet, there is often some free bread in the thrift area, and in the summer free produce as well... to supplement anyone. I believe books are still free there, but call ahead if that interests you... you will be lucky if they answer. I have enjoyed going to The Attic in the past. However, the consignment reimbursement process is…read morequestionable. We dropped off a number of items last year for consignment. I was under the impression that anything sold would be reflected as a store credit to be used at our discretion. I stopped in a couple of weeks ago to buy some dishes and asked to use my credit. I was informed that there was no credit and that a check had been issued, that is now expired. I had a check...when?? That was not at all clear and I was not notified. I sent a message and received a call from the store about the issue, and nothing will be done. Not even a hint at a possible solution besides too bad, but the check is expired, nothing more. I asked if people are notified about consignment checks and they are NOT. The checks are put in a drawer and removed upon expiration if they weren't picked up. Even if I misunderstood, shouldn't customers be notified of money they are owed for personal items sold? I'm surprised that no message is ever sent. So, I gave my items to the store for free. My patronage must be very low priority. Questionable business practice and extremely frustrating.

Don't get me wrong... It's still a second hand store so don't expect Dillard's but comparatively spearking it's one of the cleaner nicer shops in the metro. What have I picked up here? Antiques, brass, an almost 6 ft set of longhorns, Buck knives, cast iron, tools... And most recentl y a vintage wall Coca Cola bottle opener that the owner gave to me free of charge when my gf mentioned it was my birthday. We're kind of regular customers... Lol Inventory varies by the day. We try to swing in often. Good people. A good shop. Not much else you can ask for.

Booth after booth and case after case are loaded with treasures! It's obvious that some vendors take more pride in their booths than others. Some booths just look messy and others are very tidy and organized. I was REALLY excited to see a vintage Kmart cart and some old Walgreens hand baskets here. They're for shoppers use, not for buying. My guy was happy to get a plate of cookies from Luanna's Kitchen. ;) This was a very fun place to stop! Highly recommend!

The store itself was really neat to walk through, and they had fantastic restrooms! However, the people there were not very friendly. I smiled at one girl who worked there, and she just stared straight through me as she walked by me. Then, there was a guy and another woman, with only the woman briefly saying anything at all to us. They did have a nice selection of odds and ends, with lots of tins, old kitchen utensils, pots, pans. It was an okay stop for the morning, but wish those working there had been a bit friendlier. There is apparently free parking somewhere, but we had already paid at a meter before seeing the sign inside regarding this. Maybe we missed it on the outside somewhere, but that would definitely have been helpful to have seen before paying.

There's also a restaurant next door (and connected inside) called Railroad Bill's Diner, which will have to wait for my next visit. I enjoy antique stores, especially the ones that have some curation and don't make me feel like I'm drinking out of a fire hose when looking around. This store is nicely laid out, easy to navigate, and features various individually owned (?) and themed bays (like books or tools). I also appreciated that I was pretty much on my own, unless I needed to ask for help or advice. So what did I buy? Let's just say that Gayle has already asked about it, rolled her eyes, and restated that we didn't need any more "junk" in the house. These places never reveal their true breadth in one visit, so I will be back the next time I'm in town. When you decide to come, please also note the historical building and its freight company heritage.

Their proceeds lend towards something important (unlike places like Goodwill...), and they don't try to upsell. They are dedicated to the cause, nothing more.
