I contacted several tree removal services for an estimate. I found Joseph Tree Service estimate to be very competitive. But that wasn't why I hired them. They are just very nice people. So I scheduled the job. They arrived promptly. They took great care to protect our property and great care to protect their employees. Watching them professionally take down the tree was like viewing an acrobat show. They carefully selected and then surgically remove large branches which were tied together. They were then carefully lifted out of the tree area and softly lowered to the ground. Once there, they smaller piece were loaded into a chipper, again with great precautions for their employees. They didn't just hand feed it, they tied it to a rope and pulled it in while walking away from the chipper. The larger pieces were carefully picked up and moved to a larger truck. Both the chips and larger pieces will be converted to mulch and firewood. The clean-up was immaculate. There weren't any large pieces or even small pieces anywhere. The entire area was raked and cleaned up. It was like they were never there. Two brothers own the business. They are both fire fighters and paramedics. Many of their other staff are also a part of CFD. Like I said, I would place them on your list to call. You won't be disappointed if you make the same decision I did.

I needed two trees cut down at a very difficult island location in BUCKEYE Lake. They were not able to bring any of their heavy vehicle equipment onto the island. Joe had a crew of six people. They were able to climb the trees and cut off the limbs and the ground crew cut up the limbs and brush. Nate was like a little monkey climbing up the tree! This job was like a lesson in science and math. They used ropes and pulleys with tension. It was a huge job and they tackled it methodically. The ground crew even used a rake to rake up the little pieces and then a blower to disperse the sawdust. This was a difficult job and they nailed it. I will most definitely call them again and you should, too.

Before the work began, I specifically asked multiple times what to expect regarding lawn damage and was repeatedly assured it would be "minor." I understood and accepted that the area immediately surrounding the tree would be affected, but the damage extended much farther into the yard than I was led to expect (especially given the before/after photos in other reviews did not have the same level of damage). There are deep ruts and holes well beyond the tree's location, and some areas appear to have been filled with wood chips and then covered with pieces of torn-up sod rather than properly repaired. While I understand that tree removal is demanding work and some lawn damage is unavoidable, I feel the extent of the damage should have been communicated more honestly beforehand so I could have made a fully informed decision and budgeted for any necessary lawn repairs. After the work was completed, I sent the company photos of the damage in hopes of discussing my concerns. Rather than acknowledging my perspective or offering a constructive response, I received what I felt was a defensive reply that placed the blame on me for supposedly misunderstanding what had been explained. That response was disappointing and made the experience even more frustrating. I'm sharing this review so that future customers know to ask very specific questions about the potential extent of yard damage and to consider the possibility of significant lawn repair costs in addition to the price of the tree removal itself. I have attached before and after pictures to fully convey the damage that has occurred. While I do acknowledge some of this is natural dormancy, the ruts and bare spots are most certainly not. I would not consider this to be minor damage. (Dog in photos covered for his protection). I also included a photo from my blink camera showing zero protection to my backyard.

Joe gave me a fair price for removal and removed the tree--the remains of a stump from a prior removal needed to be done correctly. While grinding the other stump, his machine malfunctioned, and he could not grind the locust tree stump. Joe told me he would fix his machine and return to finish the 2nd stump. He deducted the price from the total bill and said he would get paid when the job was completed. It took him several weeks to get the parts and return the machine online. He kept me appraised of the situation. When the stump grinder was up and running, he put my job first on the list. On 10-03-23, Joe finished the stump and cleaned the yard. Clean up was flawless. His workers know how to work. There was no standing around and chatting. The crew was also courteous, answering any questions with a snappy Yes Sir! or No Sir! Their work was superb, and the cleanup was thorough. They are my go-to tree care team in the future. Two years ago, another company made a mess of my trees and damaged my yard. It cost me $2,500 to repair the destruction. " Certified Tree Experts of Columbus, Ohio" overcharged me and refused to mitigate extensive yard damage. The manager told me to read "the fine print" and was rude and condescending. Buried in the 6-point font was a statement "Not responsible for yard damage".
