Had a new heat pump installed last Friday just before a very hot long weekend. My installers were Abdo and Eller. They were great. Before they started they laid down protective carpet down the stairs to my basement all the way into the furnace room even though I said it wasn't necessary to ensure they didn't track any dirt into the house. The installation went very smoothly and they had the heat pump up and working in no time. Eller did the modification to the furnace in the basement while Abdo installed the heat pump outside despite having to work during what turned out to be a very hot day. I was impressed with his work ethic. Abdo configured my smart thermostat and explained how to operate the heat pump. In addition Abdo replaced the large old and ugly exhaust and air intake pipes from my furnace that were outside with a neater and smaller profile. The old pipes were installed many years ago when I replaced my old furnace with a more efficient one. The pipes were huge and ran several feet up the side of the house. The new pipes are small and inconspicuous. I was very pleased at how much better the whole side of the hose looked and to boot Abdo didn't charge me for the replacement. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. All in all Abdo and Eller did a very professional and terrific install. I would recommend that if anyone was getting a heat pump or an air conditioner installed from A1 Chesney to ask for Abdo and Eller to do the installation. Five stars for their work. read more

We are longstanding customers of chesneys as we're my parents and many family members. I can tell you that I am so disappointed with the customer service I recieved. After a visit and a quote provided by Craig B which gave us three options from highest to lowest. I called to discuss wanting to try the least costly option before I shelled out thousands. After a few phone calls, emails and texts with promises of a call back it never came. It appears that chesneys is only interested in larger jobs now which I could better understand if they even gave me the courtesy of a phone call back. I will no longer support chesneys and my family will follow suit along with everyone I speak to about the horrible service I recieved. I appreciate everyone is busy but business should remember not to forget your existing customer base and a simple return phone call doesn't cost nothing. They diagnosed my LG unit and determined that it was not working either because the fan or the motor was bad, but that they were not sure. They eventually advised that no parts were available and that I should replace everything (indoor and outdoor). read more

Had a brand new furnace put in 4 years ago. They call themselves Service Experts also. They say if you are not happy with their service they give you your money back. My new high efficient furnace was supposed to be better than the old '70s furnaces I had. They said I would be better off switching from 2 to one furnace for efficiency sake. I was particularly worried about the basement not heating as well as the upstairs and therefore causing the basement to be too cold or the upstairs to be too hot. It is now actually worse than it was with the old furnaces, because at least before I could turn off the upstairs furnace all together. I had 3 technicians come in and change the filters and say that now it would be better. None of it worked. The owner returned my email asking if I wanted someone to come take a look and then never followed up again. THIS COMPANY IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY. BEWARE!!! read more

We had a new central air conditioner installed and after they left I noticed several deficiencies. The installation was functional but certainly not professional . sloppy silicone work, screws stripped out and just left. The furnace cold air returns howled when it was running . I informed the sales representative of the issues who assured me that a technician would be back to address the deficiencies. No response to date. I had these guys install a split air conditioner in my house, and while I was documenting the work, they started screaming at me to turn my camera off. Not even a nice "excuse me, could you please not take pictures while we are working". This guy went from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye. Started screaming like a lunatic. Twice. Completely unprofessional. Let me be clear on something. Legally, if you're in someone else's property as a guest, you are bound by my rules, not your company's. So when they refused to work because I was documenting things, they cannot refuse to work unless the work is unsafe. Legally, when it comes to taking pictures on private property, especially if you're a guest, you are bound by the host's rules. So if I decide I want to take pictures, you will have to deal with it. If I was on their property, that's a different issue. The ball is in their court there, and they can enforce their own rules. I am not going to turn my camera off, because you think I'm going to do something nefarious with the pictures and somehow hurt your company in some way with them. Well, I'm leaving my mark here, but not with a camera. I will say the pictures consisted of a mounting bracket and a hose along the side of my condo, that's it. No pictures of employees working. Nothing that would hurt your company, bunch of snowflakes. Now I had flooring installed in my place back in 2016 by a different company, and I went to document things, and the guy installing the floors didn't mind. So it's definitely this A1 Chesney company who needs better trained workers with customer service skills and thicker skin who don't freak out over a camera. read more

Absolutely one of the worst experiences I have ever had - As a Lennox premium service org I called them because I was having problems with my Lennox furnace and I wanted it ready for the winter. I also asked for a quote to replace my furnace as it is 20 + years old. The rep showed up and was polite enough but I was somewhat concerned almost immediately as before he saw the furnace he commented that it will likely need to be replaced. While he looked at the furnace the sales rep that was with him started telling me that my furnace was only 50% efficient and that it really needs to be replaced and started building a proposal for a replacement - meanwhile the tech was telling me that the unit was warped and that the main logic board was faulty and that it wasn't worth repairing. He also looked at the second furnace and told me it was unsafe to use and that it needed to be replace immediately. They billed me $248.85 for the service - 125 for the visit (on the phone I was told 120) and the rest in troubleshooting. They left me in the same condition i was before they got here an inoperable furnace .. They also presented me with an 8000 quote. for a dual zone, single stage replacement - and told me they would remove the 248 from the quote if I signed up with them.. This morning I called an alternate service company that will be getting a 5 start rating from me, and their tech showed up - took the flame assembly apart - cleaned the carbon and residue from the horns on the gas line and re-assembled the unit and it worked like a charm.. Indicated the unit was 73% efficient not 50% as the Chesney folk claimed and that the unit still had life in it as the flame chamber appeared to be in reasonable condition for it age, answered all my questions about dual zone and dual stage and why new high efficiency unit exhaust horizontally through plastic and not vertically .. very knowledgable, very honest and will have me as a client going forward - They are drafting a professional proposal for a replacement for a pair of dual stage - 96% efficient units in the spring and explained why a dual zone for my house is a bad idea... But this is about A1 Chesney - DO NOT USE THEM- not ethical or professional by any means! - and for you long timer Calgarians this is not Chesney from Bridgeland back in the 70's this is a Texas outfit ... read more

A1 Chesney techs came into my home to perform a tune up. Less than a month later one of the furnaces stopped working. It's never had problems before. To give you some context it was winter time. When I called them about the break down the soonest they said they could come fix it was three weeks from the day I called. I had purchased a furnace from A-1 in 2008 and felt they were a good company last week had them out to do a tune up for winter the house was fine but the old furnace in the garage (original to the house) they told me the heat exchanger was cracked , I put my co detector in the garage tested it with the car running to be sure it was working . the detector has not gone off , which tells me they were trying to scare me into buying a new furnace for the garage. The serviceman was pleasant and got the job done BUT... when I reviewed the cost, I decided to go online and found the sensor I had been charged $192.00 for can be bought for as little as $25.00. Because my father (a retired builder) dealt with Chesneys for over 40 years I called this company in an attempt to switch furnace services. I needed to switch from my furnace installation company because I found they were charging ridiculous rates. I began to realize the seller and installer of my furnace were milking ridiculous fees for their services. So I called Chesneys because we'd dealt with them for so many prior years. I found that I got the same stories as the other company and are using the same legal gouging methods as the other companies. Now I'm looking for a private licensed plumber who is not an opportunist who is in the habit of holding customers for ransom. I tried to discuss the terrible reputation Chesneys has on Yelp but the person I spoke with was a master stonewaller. I was unable to get answers to three of my questions. Instead she skirted the important questions. I did give her a star for patiently staying on the phone while I asked questions. Some people would say that goes without saying. While I'd agree with that point of view it appears that common courtesy is not to be expected anymore. Therfore I give her a star for courtesy. The other star is required to make a review. read more

Service rep took an exorbitant amount of time and was unable to answer simple questions. Despite my concerns, my husband who was desperate for AC completed the purchase. Scheduling an install was beyond painful, I finally had to go around the sales rep to speak directly with the scheduler who was less than pleasant on the phone. Sales rep called the day before install to see if we'd made our neighbours aware of the install, no, they are on holidays we think, we didn't know you'd be disrupting their side of the property. He said no problem, we'll go ahead. Installers show up and refuse to install because we didn't have permission from said neighbours. I called the sales rep who tried to beg it off as a misunderstanding. Problem is, I'm not stupid, there was no misunderstanding, he didn't know what he was talking about. So no install. Furthermore the installers reeked of cigarette smoke. If you have someone going into someones house who is a non-smoker, it's likely best to at least try to hide the stench. Completely unprofessional. We will never deal with them again and would not recommend them to an enemy. read more

Rob pacitto was my service technician. I have a new ac and furnace installed last year. He did my one year service and was very thorough checking everything and found the humidifier was not connected to my thermostat. He also showed me how to clean the ac unit to improve its longevity Very helpful! One thing I will say is a1 service is great. The communication between sales, dispatch and service tech could be improved. The sales person gave me the wrong filter replacement package on the install for my first cleaning. So now the tech today couldn't complete the job. Also the office didn't communicate with the tech about the filters required so he came with no supplies. This will cost another service call and more time on my part. read more

I've been having problems with my hot water tank for about 3 years now, where the pilot light periodically goes out and I have to start it again. It almost always would go out if we had a terrible wind. Finally, I just could not get it started. I called A1 and they sent a technician out that afternoon (Sam Reda) who was excellent. I thought I was going to need a new hot water heater but he knew exactly what he was doing and fixed the problem. The last few days the wind has been horrendous up here on the hill in Calgary but my pilot light has not blown out. Thank you Sam for your excellent customer service and work!! read more

This company rolls out a two hour dog and pony show. They do a "heat load" calculation. They have computer aps to show the product. They fake using an anenometer to supposedly show CFM which is cubic feet per minute of air flow. They do a survey. They try to 'close' you before you get started. I checked every place in town and a regular plumber came over, told me what I needed in five minutes and was about 25% lower than these guys. I don't mind paying a bit more but their duplicity in the way they try and sell stinks. read more

AI Chesney's technician pumped 4 pounds of refrigerant in my AC before he checked for any leak and/or status of compressor. When he realized the AC still not working he proceeded to check why, to discover the compressor was ceased and not a chance to repair it. He left my house and the AC was still not working. He did charge me $521.00 even with he AC not working. When I called the office to complaint, the manager, being so ignorant too, told me yes what the technician did is right because we cannot check the compressor unless we fill it up with refrigerant, this is a total BS...just browsing the internet it is easy to understand what the technician did was totally wrong and not the right procedure. I ended up getting $200.00 back but sincerely I should not be charged anything...despite being a customer for AI Chesney since few years I will never ever call them again... read more

Recently I had a couple of plumbing leaks, one of which was an emergency and could have been a disaster, but I called AI Chesney, and Sami Rada the technician arrived promptly to check it out. He was very courteous, friendly, and helpful, explaining what had to be done as he went along, and put my mind at ease. He impressed me with his knowledge and professionalism. Wrong diagnosis of AC problem On May 10 a service technician called Jamil came to my house to look at one (of two) York AC units I own. One of the units was not working and the technician diagnosed the problem to be a seized compressor. He wrote in the Customer Receipt, "AC not running due to the compressor seized up." He provided an estimate to replace and repair the compressor of $1,437.00. He also charged me $124.95 for the service call. On June 12, I had another company come to my house to replace the compressor. However, they quickly realized that the problem was not a seized compressor, but the AC unit simply needed a "hard-start" to be installed at a price of $29.00 each. They installed one in each unit for a total of $235 (including the service call) A1 Chesney misdiagnosed the repairs needed and almost cost me $1,200 MORE than was required. Luckily the mistake was caught by a technician from another company. I called the manager Tony Beddon at A1 Chesney (twice) to ask for reimbursement of the $124.95 service call, however, both times I got his voicemail and both times I left messages. He did not return my call. I also emailed A1 Chesney from a web form on their website and got an automated response to say they had received my message. They did not reach out to contact me. I also emailed Customer Service at Service Experts, but they have not contacted me. Update (June 14) - I am out of the country today but I received a voicemail message to say they will reimburse me. Update (June 22) - I just returned and still no reimbursement. Since last week I have left 2 more voicemail's on the Manager (Tony) voicemail and still been unable to speak with him. I told him in my voicemails to reimburse my credit card or send a cheque. So far I have sent 2 email/web messages and left 4 voicemail's and had one voicemail in return - but still no refund. I hired A1 Chesney (now Service Experts) to complete a condo (ductless split) air conditioner installation and room-to-room air exchanger. They showed up late for the initial installation and brought the wrong room exchanger. The installation technician was extremely polite and I have nothing against him; however, the installation was done improperly since he had limited experience in installing this type of unit. The unit operated for a few hours than released liters and liters of water down the wall where the unit was installed. After calling the 24/7 call center and being slightly perturbed, they sent out a guy that night to fix it. He showed up and had never seen a unit like this, didn't even bring a ladder. I called the call center back and complained. The second guy arrived the next day and had also never dealt with ductless split A/C units and was asking me for the manual. The only thing that stopped me from asking for my money back and removal of the unit and complete repair of my condo was the initial installation technician. After a 3rd complaint, he was sent back, found out what was wrong and fixed it. He even gave me his cell number for if I had future problems. The room-to-room air exchanger was never installed, and just like Dayne's experience, management will not return my messages...even though they/he stipulate they will. I, however, will be pursuing legal action as they did not complete the legally binding agreement. Do not even remotely consider A1 Chesney or Service Experts for installation for any home appliance. read more

Don't get sucked in by the offer that you will get your furnace repair refunded if you buy a furnace! All they do is say they credited your purchase price (which, if anyone knows anything about sales, it just gets added to the price because there is no "set" price for a furnace install). Therefore, if you get the financing, you are basically amortizing your repair over the term of the financing....which doubles, or more, the cost of the repair. read more

I was desperate to have the duct work fixed in a condo to meet the conditions of sale before a tight posession date. After being given the runaround by several companies, I reached Phil at A1 Chesney who came out to assess the project the very same day. He arranged for an electrician to move an electrical socket before the duct work could take place. Then he sent out Tyler to do the work. Tyler was polite, pleasant and highly professional. We hired Chesney's A1 (Service Experts) for a simple residential plumbing job. The first appointment they didn't even show up for and i took the entire afternoon of work and waited for them. They never even called to say there wasn't a plumber showing up that day. The day they actually made it to the house, the service was very slow, messy and they charged and extremely high price for a simple toilet install. Over $420 for that service. The toilet is not level and wobbles when anyone sits on it. They have refused to come out to fix that problem without charging another $100 for showing up + the labor time and supplies. I recommend you call a different plumbing service! This 'Service Experts' team is terrible for service!! Rip off artists! read more

Furnace was clanking on a cold day, so after reading positive reviews, I called A1 Chesney's for service. The technician had not even been in the furnace room for more than a few seconds before he said, "this is an old furnace, you need a new one." I asked him to please examine the furnace before suggesting I buy a new one. After a very quick look under the panel, he told me the bearing was broken, that it couldn't be fixed, and I would need to get a new furnace (and that they have "payment plans" if money was an issue). I asked him if he could please see if the part was available, and he said no he would not, they do not make parts for these "old" furnaces anymore. Immediately after he left, I phoned Arpi's, and not only did they have the part, they offered to come out and fix the furnace for me, or suggested I bring in the bearing and they could repair for me in house for a nominal fee. I will never use or recommend A1 Chesney's. I paid $100 for a service call with no investigation to a solution to the problem, no willingness to locate the part, and was twice told that I need a new furnace in under a few minutes. The furnace part has since been repaired for a few dollars, and runs perfectly fine. I was told to never replace an older model Lennox furnace, as they will run for life with good care. read more

I bought a new home and Service Experts was the furnace installer. The PVC that connects ventilation to the outside was cut and the plastic fillings had eventually settled into the furnace, (confirmed by two independent furnace specialists). It then caused multiple error readings (low press switch?) over time and, most recently, system failure in the middle of the night due to draining blockage. I would not normally report this 1 issue however, prior to this we had issues when the house was brand new, (under warranty) that were also not handled well. The humidifier was never hooked up. When I called it in afterwards I was asked for $150. (1 year after installation) In light of these multiple concerns I felt it appropriate to bring attention after the latest severe occurrence. Additionally, after I left a review on Google, I was promptly told to give them a call directly and leave a message, which I did. It took 3 months to hear back from them.
