I tried to paint my own French doors for several years and always got bubbles. I used every technique I could ind on the Internet. But we are going to sell this lovely home and it deserves a professional job. Our realtor recommended A-1 and was she ever right. They come on time and are fair ( bit higher priced than others but you get what you pay for most of the time). Job done perfect by nice people who could not be more careful and polite. Anthony and his wife were a delight to deal with. In an age where small contractors are often abusive of homeowner jobs, this company was just the opposite, caring a and honest. Highly recommended. We hired Anthony to paint our entire 4 bedroom interior home.  He was our highest bid of 3, but he seemed professional, seemed to be a good communicator, and promised he was thorough.  The house did turn out looking great, but it was stressful along the way.  (Anthony's "team" was very nice, polite, willing, hard working.) But there were just too many issues frankly to recommend him - or rehire him for our upcoming exterior painting. We were told we'd be in the way, so we agreed to go back to OC for a few days. - When we came back, we noticed our refrigerator (parked temporarily in the bedroom, plugged in) had been unplugged, and ALL OUR FOOD in the fridge and freezer had to be thrown away. We were upset to find this, and when we told him of our frustration, Anthony said "I didn't do it. I don't know who did it." To which I responded "Well, you're the Boss, so you're the one responsible, no?" Anthony continually was crying "this job was bigger than I thought. I didn't charge you enough". Yet we had him come over to look around, and he provided a bid. I even asked if we could shave any money off up front, and he said, "no, I gave you a fair price.". We went with him, even though he was the HIGHEST BID of the 3 we got.  He must have whined about it 5 or 6 times. My husband asked him at one point "how many years have you been doing this?"  He said 15 years. You would assume after 15 yrs, he knows how to bid a job. - I had originally forgot to include the empty cart garage. I emailed him before the project started and he said OK, another $300 - to which I agreed.  After they were "finished" and left, I saw two patches completely not sanded or painted in the cart garage. I emailed afterwards, and Anthony said "I hardly looked in the cart barn."  But you charged me to paint it, yes?  Again, disappointingly, a lack of responsibility. Some other issues: - The painters used our broom and ruined it.  Had to throw it away. - We saw one of them taking our brand new ladder (with paint on it now) out towards their car, until we called a halt to that. When discussed afterwards with Anthony, he said "they don't know whose ladder it is" to which I responded, "well, you're the Boss, you should be letting them know". - They spray painted my 4 pantry shelves. They were smooth white wood shelves.  Now they're bumpy sprayed shelves - that I since had to cover w/shelving paper. - I pointed out that the door from the house to the garage was rough, like sand, though painted...and I had to ask them to come back and fix it. - The house was empty except for some things in the garage. We had moved everything into a row down the middle of it, 3 plastic storage cabs, 2 rugs, 3 silk plants, boxes. As it turned out these items were hardly covered by plastic, as they had a light dusting of spray paint over everything. - They left the last day with the exterior door weather stripping strewn in the backyard. - More recently I was on a ladder dusting the top shelves of the master closet, and I saw there was just too little paint there, streaks/stripes of the old color paint showing through. - More recently I was cleaning the casita, and noticed that the higher window sills (too high to notice w/o a step stool) had not been painted. - He clearly told me that he would take down the blinds and rehang them as part of the job. I confirmed several times. He said "that's what we do. It's part of the job". I confirmed that several times before they started.  I said great, once they're down, we'd like to hose them off and dry them before you put them back up".  Then the end of the last day came, and the blinds weren't put back up. (After having to firmly remind him of his promise he did have someone come back to hang them, but not w/o an argument.) It was painful to have to argue with Anthony (and his female partner who came to the job at the very end) to get them to come back and do the "fix it/complete the job" items,  but in the end they did.  Does the house look great now?  Yes, it does.  Was it a stressful experience.  Yes, it was. read more

Anthony and his crew removed full length wall mirrors in one piece, patched several holes, closed up half walls and painted our flat surface walls.
