They started out great but fizzled at the end. The owner tried to get us to pay more than the quote. The owner acted like he was 2 years old when confronted about the price he hung up on me. Then they told us that taking and replacing the gate was included. Well they took it down and broke another post that wasn't supposed to have anything done to it. You guessed it, they have not been back to fix it after about a month of waiting. This is extremely very poor or lack of professionalism and I would not recommend them at all. 03-28-25. I am a landlord. I called for estimates. Two other companies came out that day and had larger quotes. A1 was the 3rd estimate, and they were the cheapest and I went with them. The 4th estimate came in after I decided to go with A1 and they were only $200 cheaper. They showed up the following day and cut down 3-trees to the fence line like requested. After 311 marked the yard, they came out and started cutting 2-100'+ Cottonwood trees. They took 1.5 trees out on the 1st day and cleaned everything up. The next day at 8:30 am they were cutting the last of the tree and started grinding both large stumps. It was raining heavy and steady, but they worked until everything was grinded down and the yard was completely clean like no trees were ever there except for the mulch pile covering the grinded stumps one wouldn't know any work was done at all. Perfect job, professional, on-time, not a complaint from me. Fully recommend. Will use them again. read more

I contracted A1 Tree Service Michiana to cut down several trees on our property and grind the stumps. Their price was very fair. I paid 50% down and they were there within a week, quickly and efficiently cutting down the trees and cleaning up. When they were finished, they asked for the balance due with the promise to schedule the stump grinding. I paid. Lesson learned. That was several months and many empty promises ago. Now I am contracting another company to grind the stumps. A1 does great work, but don't pay them until they finish the work. read more

Great company if you like your contractors to never communicate with you, work less than five hours a day, break your septic and your freshwater well housing and leave it that way open to be contaminated for over a week. Like your brand new gutters smashed? They can do it! Like to pay for trees to be cut down and still have half a tree left after payment? They can do it! Like your septic cover broken by part of a tree and never fixed so you have to pour new concrete yourself? They can do that too! Like picking up your contractors workers food and drink trash in your yard everyday? Your in luck, they can do that too. After this list you can see they can do a lot except inform you of all the stuff they broke . You have to see it and confront them yourself, if you can make contact. They do know how to cut down trees but bottom line you'll wait 6 months to get a few trees down and have a whole lot of headache in the end. read more

Justin is so knowledgeable.. he's a true professional not just a saw and sawdust man. They completed the work rapidly, well, and safely. They were an industrious TEAM with Justin as their coach. It's so seldom we see people the know what they are doing and enjoy their work. We have been in contact with Justin several times since the first part of August as he said he would return our $250, because he honors veterans which I am and also old people which I am. Justin has had many reasons as to the delay such as in the mail, coming with the cash, worked late and could not get to the bank, in LaPorte at the bank and your money is in my pocket and I will be at your house shortly. On May 22nd of 2020 A1 tree service was cutting trees down at our neighbors and dropped a big limb on our 2 month old pole barn. We have tried working with Justin to fix the damage he caused. He will ignore our calls and acts like he is coming to do something. Obviously this guy does not care about his reputation as a business man. Next step for us small claims court. read more

WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! Contacted Justin Begeman/A1 Tree Service Michiana on 03/17/21 to cut down a tree in our backyard. He showed up 03/21/21 to give an estimate. Deposit of $1050.00 given 03/26/21. Check cashed 03/29/21. After weeks of delays, excuses & lies we finally had it. Let him know 05/08/21 we were done with him and his excuses. He contacted us 05/13/21 to see if we wanted to cancel our cancelation. NO was our answer. He said his equipment was fixed and he was able to get his work done - seemed like quite a coincidence that after weeks of waiting, we told him we were done and then all of a sudden things were fixed. We have asked him over and over again for our deposit to be refunded and he refuses. He says he had started the job and that since we cancelled, he was not able to finish. What is his claiming "starting the job" was on 04/13/21 he showed up - after we contacted him AGAIN. He dropped a trailer and cut down no more than 6 low hanging branches. He did not even need a ladder. He put no more than 20-30 minutes in and that was it. He came a couple days later to pick up the ladder and we have not seen him since. He was awful at communication. Mostly, he would contact us only after we contacted him and then we were told we needed to patient. He said no one else was complaining, which we found hard to believe. At on point, he even played the "I can't be there because my grandpa died" card. We had a hard time believing this. We searched for address for him and one was an old brick building with junk cars all around it. The other was a storage unit. We contacted the storage company and they told us that he was told to leave 4 years ago and he left owing them alot of money. They also mentioned that they were told of many instances where he had scammed people. You will also note, that one of his reviews was 5 stars, but it was written by him!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY. IT IS NOT WORTH THE HEARTACHE. Just waiting on karma to visit him. read more

I posted a job on Monday, they sent a message that within 2 days they would come and give an estimate. I messaged them on Friday as they did not show up all week. They came on Friday and gave an estimate to cut 2 broken branches of a tree for $1500!!! It was obviously a rip off, I don't know what they were thinking. Because I have an accent it doesn't mean I'm stupid! Called another person, came the same day and gave an estimate for $200 for the same job! We hired him, came 2 days later and did an excellent job. I'm glad I did not hire A1 Tree Service, they just wanted to rip us off. You can't charge for the same job 7 times more! Never would recommend them. read more
