I had this company come out 4 months ago to clean and condition a leather sofa, chair, and ottoman. There were a couple rips that needed repaired, as well. They talked us into re-dying the furniture because of the condition they were in. What a HUGE mistake. I should have stuck by my guns and just done the cleaning and conditioning. First off, they didn't dye the entire sofa, chair, and ottoman. On the sofa, they dyed the 2 arm rests and 3 seat cushions. They did not dye the 3 back cushions or the frame. On the chair, they dyed the 2 arm rests, the seat cushion and the back cushion. They didn't dye the frame. The ottoman wasn't dyed at all. The dye was similar in color to the original but there was a definite difference, which I guess should be expected. But to not dye the entirety of the set was a mistake. I've had mismatched furniture ever since. Another reviewer mentioned a "plastic" look to the dye. I can say this is absolutely true. It doesn't look like leather anymore but instead looks fake. The repaired rips are still holding strong but apparently whatever chemicals they used on the furniture, whether it be the cleaner, conditioner, or dye, is now eating away at my leather and there are rips and holes in places there weren't before. My sofa is completely ruined and looks like crap now. I'm either going to have to look into having the leather completely replaced or throw it out and get new furniture, neither of which will be cheap. I'm glad other reviewers have had good experiences but I honestly cannot say my results were anything other than disastrous. read more

It was hopeless. Two perfectly good leather couches punctured and scratched by Felis catus. I stumbled upon this service on Yelp and a call was made. An estimate was given by Sharon, who projected an air of a craftsman's confidence after studying the damage done. On the second visit, she completed the work (though she does need the workspace since this is a housecall). If your item is quality leather, do NOT use this service. While very nice about it, they ruined my jacket. I brought a lambskin jacket in for a rip, the woman said she could repair it, suggested cleaning and re-dying. I agreed, as it is about 4 years old. She said they would be able to come very close to matching the color. They did NOT match the color, and the leather has been RUINED. I had the same experience as Tracy S. My jacket, which used to be very supple and soft, now feels like plastic, and looks cheap. The color is no where near the original color. While i was told it was going to be "re-dyed" it was definately painted. When i called to ask why my jacket felt, looked, and sounds (like i am wearing a plastic bag) so bad, i was told to put leather conditioner on it. If they know this will help it be more supple - why didn't she just do it herself? I tried that - but after a couple days, it goes back to feeling stiff. Bottomline - they do NOT know how to deal with quality leather. I called another leather place and they confirmed that my jacket is now ruined, and AAA was not honest with me about how damaging their services would be to the leather. read more

Please DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE if you have anything of quality (like a real Louis Vuitton bag) that needs repair. They assured me that they could do the work (sun tan spray got on the leather straps); the bag came back to me with PAINT caked onto the straps. Yes, they actually PAINTED the leather and ruined it (the trademark yellow stitching is now brown and ruined forever, and that wasn't even a problem to begin with!) Also the paint that they used got all over the bag itself. I was floored that it was even returned to me in such unacceptable condition and that my check was cashed! That's another thing, I wrote the owner (I think her name is Sharon or Sherry?) a letter telling her how disappointed I was, included photos of the damage -- didn't ask or my money back or anything, just begged her not to pretend to know how to restore designer bags in the future (save someone else from disappointment)!!!! Did she ever bother to write back with an apology or try and call me to explain? NOT ONCE! Bottom line, blind monkeys could have done a better job than AAA Leather Doctor. I didn't know where to file this, but I had a great experience with AAA leather doctor to repair a new purse that I had extensively damaged by accident. My horror story was that the purse was shipped to me without any bubble wrap and I cut through the bottom of my purse with a pair of scissors, I know this is hard to believe but I actually did it! I surfed the internet for a leather repair expert and came upon AAALeatherDoctor. Now, I have to say it is not an actual bricks and mortar business, there are two repair techs (they own the business) that will come to meet you in your area and pick up your leather items or meet you at your place to look at your furniture/items. I was a little worried that this was a scam since I had to meet her in a coffee shop (a bit weird) and I handed over my $600 new purse without any real insurance I was going to get it back. But she left me call a week and a half later that my purse was ready for pick up. They can ship it to you or you can pick it up in their pick up spot at a Mail Boxes Etc. in Studio City. I am blanking now on the name of the owner, the woman that repaired my purse, but she is very knowledgeable about the qualities of leather and what she can and can't do. Upon turning my purse upside down, you cannot tell initially that repair has occurred and it looks as good as new. The repair was reasonable too, under $70 dollars for the amount of damage I did to the purse it was worth it. My only complaint is that they do a lot of work for other clients in the industry, so you may have to wait a while if there are higher priority jobs. Again, she tells you upfront how fast she can turn the work around so at least she is honest. They also repair leather couches, car upholstery and basically anything leather. They'll dye and recondition old leather and I plan to bring more of my handbags to her to be reconditioned. read more

I have a lovely olive green leather purse that I took out on a catamaran when it was new. It was sprayed with salt water and the color became very faded and blotchy. I was so disappointed that I had ruined the purse, but AAA Leather Doctor re-dyed the purse and the color and texture really are as good or better than new! The purse did have some contract stitching that could not be preserved (as another review mentions), but I was told about that before the work was done. We had Sharon and her worker dye 2 leather chairs. We allowed the chairs to dry for over 5 days, and the dye still peeled off. We also had them do some leather repair and dye work on our car seats, that too was a disaster. Basically we wasted close to $900.00. We could have put the money towards new chairs and seat covers for the car. Sharon was nice and tried to make the dye stick without peeling off, but the products do not work. The sofas had stains (one from animal accidents) and one sofa had cat clawings, and when she was done you couldn't tell. I am waiting for her to finish a jacket and another purse. These guys did a great job in renovating our 17 year old sectional. Over the years our old dog had made a few punctures and some of the stitching had just split. They were able to breathe another 15 years worth of life into the old couch. We were looking at replacing this Hancock and Moore piece of furniture until we found that it was going to cost over $15,000 to replace. The Leather Doctor was able to renovate it completely for less than $1000, with little inconvenience and less than a week. We are going to have them repair my desk chair next. read more

I felt the cost was reasonable in comparison to the damage. The cushions do not come off so getting new leather was not an option. that's rather funny to read good experiences from AAA leather doctor. i had a bad experience that actually cost me close to 700 dollars. i had a couch that needed refinishing and after months of deciding i contacted AAA leather doctor and a woman named Sharon came to my house to have a look at my couch. off the bat i had a weird feeling about this deal. the couch originally cost me close to 11,000 dollars and with time the color was starting to fade out on me. she told me it was able to be refinished and that she could do it right in my living room. she gave me a price, a little steep i thought but she seemed to sound like she knew what she was doing though i thought it rather strange, id think a job like this would take longer then a day. so i agreed against my first instinct. we set up a date 4 days from the time she came to originally see my sofa. the appointment was set for 8am. she showed up finally 45 mins later then agreed on. and i could have been mistaken but i believe i smelled alcohol on her breath. she wanted to work in my living room but with a baby at home and after seeing the amount of chemicals and spray cans she had with her. i made her work out in my garage and even helped her and her worker move the sofa out to the garage. after only 5 hours of working on the sofa it wasn't the same color as it originally was though it did look good. then within 1 week maybe less the color that was put on my 11k sofa was starting to peel and scratch off by merely sitting on it. my children are too little to do damage to the couch and i don't have any pets so i called Sharon and asked her to come back out and take a look at the couch. she set up a date to come out and look and never showed up. i had called back and was told she had the flu and was very sorry. i explained to her what was going on with the sofa and asked for an explanation why this was happening because when it was first explained to me i was told this was a penetrating refinish and was assured it was not topical. she gave me what i believe to be a run around story or how sometimes the dyes do not take to certain leather and she would be glad to come back out and take a look at it. she finally ended up coming out to take a look only to give me another quote of how much it would be to fix what was happening. i asked politely for a refund of my original 650 dollars and that was totally out of the question. i ended up having to get rid of the sofa cause the "dye" that she sprayed on my couch was getting peeling everywhere and i could risk having the little ones get a hold of some of it and putting it in their mouth. i guess from what i read on here AAA leather doctor is a lot better at repairs then refinishing furniture... cause i had a terrible experience. read more
