I liked the fact that Kim was attentive and took the time to find out what I liked prior to starting.

I've been a fan of Ge'lor House for a while now! I ran out of their Selfie Glow serum forever ago…read moreand have noticed a real difference in my skin. I have very dry, sensitive skin. It seems like just about anything can set my skin off into a full on breakout. But when I was using the selfie glow serum this time last year, I got tons of compliments from how glowy and radiant my skin looked (I know people say this a lot, but I can actually remember four people off the top of my head who said this to me when I was using this serum). I decided to finally replenish my supply of selfie glow serum. I've been super busy so I didn't have time to make it to the store. Lucky for me, they have a website you can place orders from for shipping. I went online and saw they were offering a bundle deal for the turmeric face mask and the selfie glow serum. I've never tried the face mask but I struggled with hyperpigmentation so I'm curious to try it out. The whole bundle was $30 which seemed like a great deal to me considering some of the skincare items I purchase are $30 just for one small bottle of one product. Shipping was $8. The online ordering system was easy and fast. They even offer subscribe and save on their website (nice touch!). Once I get this next bottle of selfie glow serum, I'm gonna hold onto it so I can get the 50% discount when I bring the bottle in and refill it in the store. I'm still waiting for the order to get here (it's only been a couple days) but I'm really excited to try it out. Will update my review with how my skin is looking afterwards!

So excited to try some new skin products from Glôr (a black owned skincare store on Belair road)…read more I purchased the pumpkin spice body scrub, Dynamic Glow Duo (turmeric face mask & selfie glow oil) and oatmeal/milk/honey bar soap. I ordered it last night and picked it up in store today. The owner was so nice and sweet. She welcomed me with a smile under her mask and warm energy. The store was too cute (especially the new flower display she created). Anywho, I'm excited to try these and will edit with my experience. 3337 Belair Rd, Ste. 1 Baltimore, MD 21213 thegelorhouse.com Edit: I used the mask/oil combo and love it! The mask is cleansing but not harsh. Face masks usually leave my face striped of it's natural moisture. I'll definitely be adding this to my routine regularly (probably 2-3 times/week). The oil is nice too. You only need 2 drops so a little goes a long way. It's very moisturizing but doesn't leave my face feeling heavy or clogged. I'm sure I'll use this daily. I haven't used the bar soap yet but I did use the body scrub. I will probably use this a few times/week. It's gentle yet effective at exfoliating my sensitive skin. The scent is much stronger in the container than on my actual body (a plus for me because I don't like heavily scented skin products... plus a lot of strong fragrances aren't natural). I love that both the mask and scrub worked well without being too harsh/rough on my skin. All in all, it was money well spent. Naturally, I have moisturized skin but these make me feel extra soft and hydrated. I'll continue to support this local brand. Tip: I always mix my face mask in a bowl with a little warm water. I apply it as a paste with clean hands. I only used a little and let it sit while I took a shower. I rinsed the hardened mask off my face in the shower with warm water and my skin felt so clean, hydrated, and soft.

I went in today for a shave. Was thinkng a hot towel and shave for head and face. When I walked in,…read morethere were 3 ladies. One appeared to be a bonafide barber. One appeared to be a stylist (was in the middle of braiding). The one I went to was practice braiding on a mannequin head (in retrospect, that should have been my 1st clue). I sit in the chair, and she asks what I was getting. I told her a shave (head and face, but keep mustache and goatee). She drapes me, and about a minute later, forcefully begins cutting. I say forcefully because she literally hit my head with the clippers to cut the hair. It was a rough session. A seasoned barber knows how to place clippers on the head without knocking the client all around. They also use the right tool for the job. What I mean is, if you have to dig while cuttting, you got the wrong tool. Get the tool necessary to cut closer without digging into a persons scalp. When she was done with that, she picked up a set of trimmers to try and finish job. Clearly these trimmers were not adequate. She went and asked the other lady (barber) for an electric shaver. How, in today's time does a supposed barber not have their own electric shaver? I've seen beginner barber kits. Its part of the kit IF you went to school to get your license. At this point I am so glad I did not ask for a true shave. She takes the electric shaver and begins racing over my scalp. This is where the other lady (barber) tells her "slow strokes". I realized then she must be apprenticing. She CAN NOT be a barber. What sucks is, no one told me she was an apprentice BEFORE I sat in the chair. The end result was jacked up. My mustache had been butchered. Shave, despite using the foil shaver was incomplete. I could have requested that she clean up the mess she made but I had no confidence she could and I just wanted to get out of the chair before any more damage was done. This place is literally a hole in the wall kind of shop. The chairs for patrons to sit and wait all had holes big enough to drop a football through. I've never seen a business setup so shabbily. Their website says they are seeking new barbers. But why would a true barber want to work in a place in such disrepair? I can not in good conscience recommend this shop in any way for anyone.

I discovered Nail Spa while browsing Yelp for a nail salon. I initially went in for a pedicure and…read morea new nail dip. As the nail tech was prepping my nails, I noticed all the sample nail designs and thought, Oh, she knows how to do designs. With that in mind, I decided to get acrylic tips instead. I shared a video with her showing a cat-eye French tip design I wanted. As she started working, I felt the nails looked too dark, but I tried to trust the process. She finished one nail and asked for my opinion. I asked if it was the final product, but due to a language barrier, she called over a man I believe is the owner. He explained that the nail wasn't finished and there were more layers to add, so I said okay. When everything was done, she executed the design perfectly, but it was much darker than I wanted. I had hoped for a pink design but left with a dark pink and greenish-looking nail. I tried to love it but couldn't, so I returned the next day to request a color change. Initially, the owner implied I would need to pay for the redesign, but when I explained that I had expressed my dissatisfaction the day before, he agreed to fix it at no charge. Because of this good customer service, I decided to give them another chance, but I opted for a different nail tech this time and requested Michael. During my fill, I had to point out areas where the nails weren't shaped correctly. Even during polishing, I had to ask him to go over spots he missed. I asked for blue chrome nails with glitter, and he initially said it was possible. However, after prepping my nails, he called over a coworker, showed him the picture, and then told me he couldn't execute the design. As a result, I left with plain nail polish. Michael was apologetic and said they'd have the chrome powder next time, but by then, the experience left me disappointed. The staff is nice, and I appreciate that they allow both appointments and walk-ins. However, there's something about the vibe of the salon that feels off, so I won't be returning. That said, if you're in a pinch and need something affordable, they might be worth a try.
