I went this year for the first time. I had really high expectations because there are so many other…read moregreat festivals and fairs in Southern Maine. This is not on the level of a Cumberland County Fair or even a Yarmouth Clam Festival or even the Lewiston Balloon Festival. There are no rides and very few games. There are some vendors making it feel like a flea market and a good number of food trucks. There is a stage with live music and performances on a large field, as well as a parade, but if you're not here for that, it is relatively low key. After telling some folks that were born and raised here about it, they said it is basically a family reunion for the locals. There also isn't very much Moxie. There aren't fun Moxie foods or merch. It is all very basic and somewhat boring. I think they could do a much better job with this, but it seems as though they don't need to bother trying harder since it pleases and is for the locals. If you're not from the area, plan a trip to Topsham Fair instead. If you're traveling to attend this, unless you're the biggest Moxie fan there is, you will be disappointed.

I happened to chat with the woman that selected Central Maine Pyrotechnics the next day and she said they were superb to work with. They were exceedingly professional and handled everything for her. There are…read morecurrently 7 other locations of Pyro City in Maine (Skowhegan, Winslow, Farmington, Manchester, Windham, Ellsworth & Presque Isle), which we've not been to because we always make this Edgecomb shop part of our road trip when visiting Portland. They have an awesome array of fireworks at reasonable prices..to name a few, Extreme Chaos, Fright Night, Neon Demon, The Godfather, Kaboom...all a blast (haha..I'm punny)! The employees are friendly & great at recommending what's best for the occasion + they have a record of all the products you purchased & were happy with in the past. They will even show you videos of how fireworks will look like before you buy them. And they have every reason to be gung-ho about fireworks. Firework-lover & owner Steve Marson travels to China, where most of the fireworks are manufactured, a couple of times a year, sits on the product development board at Black Cat Fireworks (China) & has been working at his beloved "hobby" turned business for 46+ years! And even though it's a huge standalone building w/ it's own parking lot, this particular shop may be hard to spot. So if you're coming from Red's Eats, keep your eyes pealed for it on the right side of Rte 1 (across from Sheepscot River Pottery & Peapod Jewelry) right after you cross the Donald Davey Bridge. Okay we stopped we went to pyro city because it was the closest to us.... that was a big…read moremistake..the place was extremely cramped and overcrowded we waited in line with out fireworks for 35mins.. ridiculous ! the prices were extremely high for what we purchased and there were NO deals whatsoever.. anyway we bought them.. and now the worst part..the fireworks were horrible many of them did not even work and I have to say these were the worst most under performing overpriced fireworks we've ever purchased... we will never go here again.. this was our first experience with this place and definitely our last.. we'll be glad to drive the extra half hr to go to Big Als... I'm a native Mainer, and I've always loved the Clam festival. Where people put their camping chairs out along the side walk reserving their spot to watch the parade. I came on Thursday for the farmers market, and chairs were already set up for the parade on Friday. No one touches them or steals them, talk about a beautiful small community where everyone is family. I got off at exit 15 and followed the signs for the park n ride share parking lot. You can park for free and a school bus will shuttle you over to the festival. Busses run about 15/20 minutes. So you won't have to wait long. I got there early morning, 10am, they had 2 busses running the route. I walked around all the venders selling their arts and crafts and homemade desserts. It's in the grass, and in the shade. Today was just such a gorgeous Maine day. Nice breeze. Lots of shade, and the friendliest kindest people. In the other section if you go under the over pass, there's the whole tent where they do the clam shucking contest and all the seafood. That whole area is all tented so again, more shade available, lots of tables and chair to sit and eat your seafood. So much work and effort goes into planning this and the Yarmouth chamber of commerce has it down! As I walked along the seafood venders of fried clams, French fries, lobsters, fried dough, etc. I was trying to figure out what's the best way to go about this. It's 10am, I just ate breakfast, and am I really ready for seafood right now. So I walked away to give myself some time. And that's when I saw a police K9 demonstration. So I found a shaded area, and sat down on the ground and watched how they train a dog to attack the bad people. That was pretty cool to watch. It was a little hard to hear the police officers speak but you could catch a few key words and understand what they were saying. It was fun to watch another police office who was very well padded, get attacked by a dog. After the demonstration I wondered over to the rides area. Lots of rides I loved as a kid. The zipper, the Ferris wheel, and a few others. Lots of carnival type foods on that side. Cotton candy, candy apples, fried Oreo cookies, and fried dough too. The rides take tickets and it's cash only. And I believe rides cost a couple tickets each. By the time I walked around and saw everything I was ready for some Maine seafood. I decided on the shore dinner platter. A whole soft shell lobster. Steamers, small corn on the cob and potato salad. They give you a small container of hot water and butter. And a bundle of lobster bib, knife fork and wet nap. That was only $40.00 I thought that was a steal, and I was getting all the best of Maine seafood. Clams were outstanding. I haven't had steamed clams in forever. Lobster was sweet. Perfectly cooked. Corn was great. Potato salad was great too. I was so happy in my Maine heaven taking pictures like I was a tourist. I am, but not really. After eating I sat a little and then decided to head back up to the venders and look around some more. Then I caught the bus back to the park n ride share parking lot. Wonderful time. Perfect weather. Maybe I'll start coming every year for the Yarmouth clam festival. This year marks 57 years! Way to go Yarmouth.

Then it was so packed that it was hard to walk around and look at things. We saw the animals and some horse racing which was fun. I got an Italian sausage and that was cold so that was a disappointment. I would check it out again but hope for less people!

She also loves shooting fireworks and will describe what most (if not all) of what these fireworks do. Come in having thought through what you want. I like pretty fireworks with less noise, and I don't like having to run back and forth lighting one shot after another. I also don't like tall tubes that might fall over and send a shot into a crowd. I ended up with a 300 shot behemoth for $249 before tax. Got a coupon that dropped the next $199 to about $79. Not bad! So I had to buy that before driving off!

She showed us incredible architecture, shoppes, etc. What a doll! Since we were the last tour of the day, we got to stop here. A MAGNIFICENT way to end a lovely trolley ride! The park has stunning views and we loved the lighthouse. We took plenty of photos and enjoyed a sumptuous gelato from a food truck. GOOOOOOOOO HERE !!!!!
