Ask the Community - Aaron K. Salyapongse, MD

How long doe it take for a full recovery after TKR. I have tickets to Europe for a 5 month assignment, is it optimistic to plan on taking this trip in early September 2019. My guess is I would have surgery in early March?

I can’t speak to total knee, although I did see evidence walking the halls of the hospital. My husband had his hip done and we were pleased with the experience we had. He is back doing everything he did before the surgery in about 3 months time but,… Read more

After breastfeeding for 19 months, I really needed a lift to restore fullness and confidence. From the very first visit, Dr. Steven Struck was professional, knowledgeable, and kind. During my consultation, he understood exactly what I was explaining and delivered exactly what I had pictured in my mind. The lift and fullness I now have has taken my confidence through the roof--had I known it would be this easy, I would have done this five years ago! Before my surgery, I received so much helpful information, including a folder with before-and-after details, which made me feel well-prepared. The surgery itself was a breeze, and the staff at the surgery center was compassionate and professional. After surgery, when I visited the Los Gatos office several times, the staff were incredibly helpful in explaining what to expect and what to watch for. Being new to surgery, this guidance was extremely reassuring. The office manager, Lupe, was especially amazing--she helped me complete my disability forms and time-off-from-work notes and always responded quickly to any requests. Everyone I encountered truly treated me like family. My scars are minimal and the results completely exceeded my expectations. Dr. Struck's skill, attention to detail, and genuine care for his patients are unmatched. I really felt supported every step of the way. I'm so glad I chose him and have recommended him to all of my coworkers. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

This review is long overdue…read more Over 12 years ago, I had a breast augmentation performed by Dr Struck, and it resulted in severe capsular contracture and some of the worst scarring I have ever seen. He placed 550cc implants through the nipple, and I was left with horrendous thick scars that affected me physically and emotionally for years. What makes this even more upsetting is that I have since had my implants redone by a different surgeon and did NOT experience the same complications, excessive scarring, or poor outcome. That alone confirmed for me that what I went through the first time was not "normal healing" or simply bad luck. I understand surgery always carries risk, but there is a difference between unavoidable complications and careless surgical work. I spent years feeling insecure, uncomfortable, and frustrated over results that should never have happened to the extent they did. I would strongly warn anyone considering procedures with this doctor to do extensive research and think carefully before trusting him with your body. I genuinely wish I had gone to someone else the first time.

I had an emergency, life-threatening condition that didn't allow me to choose my surgeon, but I am very glad Dr. O'Holleran was there to take care of me that day in the ER. I was also pregnant at the time, barely pregnant and the operation put me at high risk for losing the baby, so I asked that I not be given general anesthesia. He was able to accommodate my request even though it was major surgery and it took extra time and consideration to make it work. He warned me to call before going out to a follow-up appointment because he often is called to the hospital and might not be there on a scheduled appointment day, but that didn't happen to me. In fact, there was only one appointment where I had a ten-minute wait and he apologized for the delay - if only all my doctors were that on schedule! Mostly, what really impressed me about Dr. O'Holleran was that he did not talk down to me at all, he treated me as someone on his intellectual level. I told him I was amazed that I won't even have a scar because he was able to go in through my belly button - I won't get into too many details but considering the problem I had I couldn't even visualize being able to keep it that small and unobtrusive! He said something about me being a young woman and he didn't want to leave me too much scarring. For a 38-year-old mom that was quite a kind comment, but the point is that technically he must be very good, and he has a much better than average bedside manner.
