I contacted James Gibson/(Scrappy's) Tree Service after hearing from people around town that his prices were most reasonable. My call was returned within the hour and the very next day the owner, James Gibson, along with one of his crew, showed up to survey the job and to give me a free estimate. He arrived when he said he would which was very refreshing as I have not had much luck with getting others to come out in the past. During our first meeting James advised me regarding the trees that may be a threat to my home and within about a week of our first meeting he and his crew returned to do the work (he would've been here sooner had my schedule allowed it). James and his crew recently finished up falling 3 very large trees on my property, ranging from 160ft to 200ft, that never should have been allowed to grow so large so close to the house. They did a great job and were careful not to injure other trees or shrubs in the process. They took down a 200ft tree in my side yard where there was no margin for error as it was in a very precarious place, and it was done without damaging the shed right beside it! I was amazed to watch them work and in awe of their expertise. They also did some other work for me while they were here, which included removing a very large pile of brush/yard waste. He and his crew were hard-working, professional, organized and efficient and his prices certainly cannot be beat! In total it only cost me around $900 for everything! Of note, James gave me a break on his already reasonable prices if I did the cleanup afterwords which worked out great for me. I can't tell you how much of a relief It was to get this work done, especially after being advised by my homeowners that should a tree fall on my home or shed they would only cover damages if the tree(s) were healthy... if the trees were found to be dead/dying (which mine were) they would not cover ANY of the damages to my home or outbuildings as it would be due to my negligence! I will most certainly use James Gibson and his crew again. They exceeded my expectations on everything and I highly recommend them! I definitely plan on having them back to do some additional work for me in the future and I have already recommended James Gibson Tree Service to several of my neighbors!

He talked to my husband about the job. When he showed up to look at the job he had a couple woman with him I didn't think anything about it I thought maybe one of them was his wife. But on the day they come back to do the job he had nothing but woman with him. This kind of work is not for women. I was worried the whole time they were there doing the job that one of them would get hurt. He did great work but we won't be connecting him again to do any more work for us until he gets a real crew. Not woman this is not the kind of work woman should be doing. I will not be recommending scrappys Tree Service either until he gets a real crew not a bunch of women who can really get hurt.

Arrived to find a tree down and another very large old tree about to fall. I called them in the late afternoon and they arrived early the next morning. They did a great job looking over all the trees surrounding our home and the trees that were unsafe were quoted. The quote was reasonable. During the next few weeks another tree on the edge of our lot became a hazard - it was a giant black oak and was threatening the neighbors house. I got three estimates on a tree removal. I opted to go with Appalachian. Of the other 2 estimates…read moreone never showed as promised, and the other showed right away but had too many bad things to say about ALL the competition I opted not to use him. Appalachian showed up for the job on time, had 4 guys with a 5th that followed, and did the whole job in just over an hour. The entire tree including the trunk was ground to mulch. They appeared to work safely and I was pleased. Tree came down and all was well! Yes I would use them again if I had another tree that needed to be removed. The only reason I didnt put 5 star as they left a quite large pile of mulch. I heard that they normally take that with them. They didnt ask if I wanted it and it could have been shoveled into the truck. In this case it was not an issue though as 2 neighbors in the park took some for their gardens, and I bagged several bags just incase the hole sinks over time as it settles and the wood chips decay. If however you DONT want a big pile of mulch, make sure you discuss that part first.
