Went in to renew my license as well as get the Real ID. Brought the necessary paperwork and showed up for my appointment. Showed my phone with text message showing my appointment to the man at the door. No line, went straight to the first desk and showed the lady my paperwork. Around the corner I went to the camera for my mug shot and then I was given a number to finalize and pay. Jan finalized the paperwork, she was a pleasure to work with. Very efficient, and I could tell they liked to have fun at work, who doesn't. Very professional...will definitely go back there going forward. I usually go to the Schaumburg DMV but this one was by far a better experience. In and out in 20 minutes. Well done Lake Zurich.

I suspect the reputation for rudeness etc. come from people who didn't read the requirements before going in. The only reason it isn't a 5 star review is that I found the appointment system a challenge to navigate (it really hated certain browsers and devices). Thank you to the fine people who work here, they have a difficult high volume set of tasks but I was impressed at how well it all worked.

When I arrived, there were a group of 6-8 employees outside chatting. For all I knew, they were on a break or something. So, I walked inside and one of them flagged me down and asked if I had been checked in already. Checked in? By who? Apparently, one of the outside employees does your initial check in, but based on how they were gathered outside, you wouldn't have known at all. You need to have your confirmation email or text and then they allow you inside. My second stop was at the front desk. A woman (whose name I don't know, but she had bright turquoise hair) was very friendly and kept the process going smoothly. Next, I had to get a photo taken and then wait for my number to be called. The staff at the photo area are really friendly! I can't say the staff at the numbered stations are particularly nice, at least not the one I dealt with. When I was taking the vision test, the entire left side of the vision test display was blurry. Likely a broken machine, because they look older than dirt. The woman at the counter kept yelling at me about being "slapped with more restrictions". I ended up using the machine at the adjacent station and it worked perfectly. Equipment does break and it does fail. Please check your equipment before hocking your snotty attitude at people. Luckily, this is something I have to do once every 4 years. I would not recommend this location at all.

#82/2023 Things change over the course of 4 years from one…read moretime renewing a license to again. Looking at the disastrous reviews on Yelp because they're old this definitely is the truth. Originally this was a very lousy facility a lot of employees had a lot of attitudes and a whole lot more unfortunately. This like many other locations in Illinois is strictly CDL related which means truck and bus and road testing commercial vehicles only. If you have a regular car license you cannot renew here you must go to another Secretary of State facility in Illinois or do it online. Everything worked out really good I came in there paid my $60 got a picture taken eye test didn't have to do any road test or anything but the interesting thing now is they will mail you your license you get a temporary paper license with all the information and what it will look like it's just not in color and hard plastic. The people who I saw on my visit we're just absolutely professional cordial laughing and joking couldn't ask for a better experience it definitely has come full circle and made a 360 as far as I'm concerned in service here at elk Grove village facility.

It's so freaking annoying to…read morehave to make sure you start looking for an appointment at 6:30 am (if you don't, you don't get one that day). I think there are plenty of folks who also don't know that you're required to make an appointment now, so undoubtedly folks show up uninitiated. I'm not sure if it's for all tasks that one has to make an appointment... when I went to another office to get my temporary disabled permit during my third trimester, they let me in, but maybe they were just being nice? The folks in this location were annoying but maybe it's part of the job description, I don't know. When I was moving from the first line (it's a land of lines in here) to tell them why I was here to the line to get my photo taken, there was no one else in the photo line so I just walked directly to where the front of that line would be. They made me move and walk back around through the stanchions to get to the exact same place I originally was. Uh.... I HATE their "system" of making people write their SSN on a piece of scrap paper. I cannot believe how ridiculous this is--what year is it again?? I really hope one of the upgrades that Alexei is implementing has to do with technology, because it is just wild that they can't somehow provide or route that information another way. They have a red/yellow/green line system which at least makes it easy to route people from this station to that station. The saving grace of these various stations is that maybe it's what makes the appointment so short. I was thankfully out in fewer that 30 minutes.

I AM NEVER GOING BACK HERE…read more We all waited for 45 minutes standing in a hot stairwell to check in even though we all had appointments. There was no one assisting or giving directions when you enter so people were cutting and fighting. It was complete chaos and it was unbearable standing that long in a hot stairway. An elderly woman looked like she was about to pass out. Finally got my photo taken and the woman taking the photos was so incredibly rude. Gave us no direction. SIGN HERE! Where? Is the photo already taken? YES! NOW SIGN HERE! I had to sit and wait another 40 minutes after checking in to watch this woman scream at everyone including elderly people. I had an appointment for 10:50 AM and left at 12:30 PM. THIS IS A COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE WAY TO TREAT YOUR CITIZENS.
