When the windows were open, the noise prohibited sleep, and even closed, quite a bit of noise got through. And when the windows were closed, it was too stuffy to sleep. There was a fan, but it was not a ceiling fan and was not that effective. The front desk is closed after 8pm (which as a general rule is not good), so we had no opportunity to do anything about the situation that evening. The following day I asked to move, and the staff was very accommodating and apologetic, giving us a different room on the second floor looking out onto the Biergarten. There was some noise from the folks in the Biergarten, but that died down by 11. The breakfast was excellent when compared with what one usually gets at an American hotel, but not that great when compared to other German hotels (we had stayed in a hotel in Regensburg before arriving in Munich and had a much better breakfast there). On the up side, the neighborhood is nice, with the beautiful river very close by, and it's a short walk to the Altstadt and sights there. It was a clean hotel, and everything functioned well. But I would not stay there in the summer.

On this cold November night the fireplace was going to keep us warm here. My wife had a dry martini and I had a gin and tonic. The drinks were accompanied with a bowl of peanuts. We had a great time talking with our friends and would like to come back sometime if our travels bring us close.

We never got our AMANO surprise on arrival, we barely got a hello. He seemed annoyed we were checking in at 8:40pm on Dec 5th. I thought, maybe German's aren't as friendly! But the entire week in other areas showed me otherwise. I am sad I spent money at this unfriendly hotel. I came down another time to ask about a cab to the airport. The front desk staff was equally as annoyed and rude that I would have a question. I truly never experienced anything like this and I travel more then half the year. The hotel was clean and beautiful and located centrally, but the hotel front manager/staff ruined my experience. The sad part is, when I was checking in- I saw him chatting happily with another male guest but was rude to me and my girlfriend. This hotel is expensive and I recommend staying somewhere else.

Don't mean to sound too picky but I truly think that you can make any place a highly rated experience if a personal touch, experience is important to the hosts (even just a thank you for coming) and we didn't get that feeling. There is a bar and strip club right opposite the hotel and that makes for a somewhat unsavory experience. My wife reported waking up on at least one of the two nights because of people leaving the bar noisily in the middle of the night. One can also tell that this is not a great area by the number of panhandlers (beggars), the "shady" businesses (think pawn shops in the U.S.), and the lack of nice sit-down restaurants in close proximity of the hotel. 2. The hotel is also quite old and its age shows in many things including the quality of floors in the lobby and the breakfast area which look completely beaten down. The elevator is also quite slow and we were surprised by how tiny it was. 3. Although they claimed to have free wi-fi, the wi-fi was slow and unreliable. The hotel does have some positives too. 1. It is very close to the main train station - Hauptbahnhof. If you leave through the correct exit, it will literally take you less than 2 minutes to get to the hotel. 2. The staff was generally quite helpful. We particularly liked the fact that they let us check in at around 10:30 a.m. when our flight from the U.S. landed. That enabled us to sleep for a few hours before going out and touring the city. For that accommodation, we are quite grateful.

My room is rather small and is not on a sunny side, so that doesn't help. The bathroom is tiled in orange-brown tiles that must have been hot in the sixties, and the taps have seen better times as well. OK, everything is very clean, but hello, what else do you expect in Bayern? As to Internet: the Wifi does simply not work, and after one week of complaints, is still not working. There is an old PC on the second floor that you can use free of charge, but it has no USB entries, no camera, no microphone, so you're better off finding yourself an Internet Cafe in town (none in this shining village of rich farmers of course). Breakfast is as to be expected, and quite OK. Although even here, the Bavarian mentality shows: I asked if I could have scrambled eggs instead of the eternally overcooked ones, and the answer was: no, she only made 'regular' eggs! Ha! Regular eggs, meaning done the Bavarian way!
