Isn't it amazing how the actions of one salesperson can ruin your entire perception of a business?…read moreI came to the store to browse and investigate a few supplements that are supposed to help with a particular condition I have. The saleswoman asked if she could help me 3 times within a 5 minute time span--the 2nd of which she pointedly looked over my shoulder at the list I was referencing, which I found to be pretty nosy. After the 3rd time, I finally asked her if they sold one of the supplements on my list that I could not find. Instead of locating the supplements for me, she started asking me really personal questions about my health, even asking what kind of medications I was taking. As this is a store in middle of a mall and not a doctor's office or a pharmacy, I told her that I didn't wish to discuss my health issues or medications with her. She continued to probe and said that she needed to know what medications I was taking as they, when taken together with the supplements, can "cancel each other out." I'm not a health care professional, but in all my years of taking medications and nutritional supplements, I have never heard of these medications reacting to supplements in this manner, and I told her that I highly doubted that what she was saying was true. She rudely told me to ask my pharmacist and continued with her tirade, in the middle of which I just walked out. I never did see the supplements I was looking for, nor do I know if they actually sell them there--all I got was an invasion of my privacy and a line of ignorant BS that I didn't ask for. I had a confidential consultation with an actual pharmacist today, and she said that what the salesperson at this store told me was completely false, so not only was she asking invasive questions that were completely inappropriate for the context, but she was also giving out incorrect information! Unless you're an actual health care professional, you should not be giving this kind of advice, especially in such a public location. There is a reason why there is a separate area for pharmacists to give consultations and why people see doctors behind closed doors. It would have been different if I had actually asked her if she had heard of these supplements interacting poorly with certain medications, but I didn't and simply desired to locate them. I took my list and my business to another health food store where the salespeople were very courteous, left me alone to browse, and respected my privacy. I will never go back to Alive Health Centre and recommend that others keep their distance unless they'd like their privacy rudely invaded by an unqualified salesperson in the middle of a busy shopping mall.
