The one-star "recommended"review on Yelp is an opinion based on hearsay and rumor from a person who has created a Facebook page whose purpose is to smear ABC Hoof Care and its owner. I don't understand how Yelp can fail to recommend rave reviews by former students of ABC Hoof Care but "recommend" a review from a person who has never attended a session and who daily posts any negative rumor she hears about ABC, even ones that have been disproved many times. I attended the school in June 2014. As the "unrecommended" reviews all state, this is good education based on primary research by a person who is a gifted scientific observer. Her manual, and the photos it contains, are eye-opening. You won't see such detailed depictions of the inside of a horse's hoof, even in anatomy books. Even the people who don't follow the school's trimming protocol use the owners photos, which she shares with anyone who asks. She also shares her knowledge on the web site mentioned in the one-star review. The site has hundreds of members who have tried everything to help their horses be pain free and finally ended up on the ABC group page and stayed because they got the help they needed. It's too bad that Yelp's rules make it easy to complain and hard to praise this hoof trimming school because the reviewers "have a relationship" with the owner. How can you not have such a relationship after attending a school session? Students' reviews should not be placed in the "unrecommended" file because the students know the teacher. I give ABC Hoof Care five stars; I give Yelp only one. read more

If you're tired of paying so-called hoof care professionals (trimmers and shoers alike), then you'll educate yourself on what constitutes a normal, healthy, mechanically functional hoof. The ABC Method not only informed me of the anatomhy of the foot, but taught me to trim to those anatomical structures. I can use the provided gauges to help guide my decisions. And the gauges help me to stay within the proper parameters and not remove too much toe or heel. I have 6 horses - each with different feet and issues (some pathological and others are normal)...that's 24 different hooves...as well as several friends and training clients who have transitioned to barefoot and who are now using Cheryl's technique. All are flourishing now, and seem to be on the path to maintaining rock-crunching, awesome hooves, here in Southern Oregon as well as back in my home-state of AZ. I've personally attended her school, as well as shadowed Cheryl and her students on trims...I'm always impressed by their objective eyes and constant critical thinking skills which serve to never settle for what they thought they knew...but to be willing to change their own paradigms about what they used to believe. I know I've evolved my views a lot on equine psychology and training, so why should I expect less of my trimmers. No foot, no horse...learn it for yourself and stop relying on paid people to take care of what you can do on your own, or at least see for yourself. read more

I professionally trim a wide variety of horses in different disciplines and of different breeds for over 11 yrs here in the New England area....many are showing/eventing and I have many that are thoroughbreds. Having researched many of the different barefoot methods out there, I was highly impressed by Cheryl Henderson's extensive knowledge of the hoof....specifically her cadaver work defining specific detail into the frog, bar, and cartilages. For those wanting a higher level of detail, incredible photography, and specific and helpful narratives that follow the trim process from first day to the finished product, I highly recommend her studies. She is thorough, highly experienced with horses dealing with bone loss or remodeling, and takes into consideration the whole horse, not just what's below the hairline. She has many students across the country that are successfully rehabilitating not only their own horses, but professionally as well. You don't have that happening unless you are on to something that works! Nothing is more honest than the barefoot horse, and using Cheryl's teachings, I have been able to trim more effectively and help more horses become truly sound. After reading a number of the complaints others make in regards to the ABC method I will add that this trim is not always the best starting point for some. The method is sound and serves my horses and my clients' horses wonderfully. But it does require attention to detail and a solid understanding what you are working with. The book gives you the info you need, but if you can't keep the whole picture in your mind while you've got the knife in your hands, learning from an experienced trimmer and starting slow and moderate will serve you better. That being said sometimes an owner needs to do what's best for their horse and learn from the resources that are made accessible to them. That's why Cheryl's book exists, and why she tries to do as many clinics as she can. Be smart, keep your horse's wellbeing foremost in all you do, and pay attention to the details. read more

These courses are the most informative courses I have had the pleasure of attending. Cheryl is an amazing and dedicated teacher who is all about achieving maximum hoof health. In addition to providing courses which include maximum information, she is always available for consult when needed. As well as providing owners with adequate information to assist their equine when most traditional farriers have failed them. I personally have met so many people who have been un satisfied with their previous 3,4,5,6 farriers and after applying the abc trim method the horses are flourishing! The ABC method is the best I've found. It's based on a lot of research by Cheryl and is all about a balanced trim based on the inner structures of the hoof. I've attended a clinic as well as the school and they were fantastic! I'm still learning, but my eye is getting better and better. Study and use this method and you'll help your horse. I have a horse that has had serious issues with her hooves. I thought I'd have to put her down, but with this method, she is doing better and better. I'll be able to ride her again by spring. The best education I've gotten in hoof care. It opened my eyes to the poor hoof care that is being done and now I can correct it. This is not an invasive trim but one that teaches how to balance the hoof and correct problems. The teaching at the school is intense and the training manual the best I've read. The teaching is backed by years of research which is well documented with photographs. My clients are completely satisfied with this trim method, many of which were on the verge of getting rid of their horses due to the poor hoof care they received prior to having an ABC trimmer. read more

I have been trimmimg my horses using the ABC Hoof Print Trim method for more than a year. All of my horses feet are now healthy and strong, with perfect symmetry and balance. My Gymkhana horses are running speed events on all types of ground and are perfectly sound. Even walking in gravel areas doesn't cause them discomfort. Their frogs are healthy, their bars are addressed to prevent internal damage to the soft tissues and internal structure of the hoof, and I can expect longevity without lameness that would have otherwise been caused by poor hoof care by uniniformed farriers. read more

Best trimming method with out a doubt. With a proper ABC trim I have seen horses go from very uncomfortable to very comfortable in just a mater of minutes. It allows joints to function properly giving the whole horse comfort. If every one spent as much time studying the functions of the hoof as Cheryl does, hoof care would greatly improve. The ABC method gives a chance to the horses that no one thought had a chance. I can't thank Cheryl and all of the ABC trimmers enough for what they do. i cannot recommend this school enough. Using Cheryl's methods I've brought horses back to soundness who'd been under veterinary care and were getting worse. just this past month alone have two horses now sound barefoot who were so lame after vet and farrier care they were going to be put down.
