As I left the position after 12 years there she never once called me in for an exit interview or too even asked me what influenced my decision to leave after so long. There was one room that they were showing a movie and all the lights were on. Most of the seating was facing a window and the tv was to the side. All I saw was 2 people on the movie making out. The people in the room were either talking to themselves or staring out the window. If you love your elderly parents or friends or even if you don't...I would not have them go to this place. I cannot comment on the Alzheimer section because that was closed off with no windows for me to see what it was like. I can only imagine.

You choose entering a known extension, or choose to hear a department list. From there the only option is to leave a voicemail. Black hole. No retuned calls. Next I tried to fax them. Line is busy. Over and over and over. The third communication option, and the one they seem to prefer, is to "email" them. There is no email address, just a form to fill out and submit. There is a clear instruction that JavaScript must be enabled so I confirmed that it was. No matter what text I typed, the error message is "Please enter a valid value." My text did not include anything but words and four numbers. I tried this option on my laptop, phone, and tablet. I used Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox, and had the same error message. The only option remaining is to find time to schlepp to their office and hope I find human beings. Human beings willing to resolve the original issue I have been trying to communicate. If that does not work, next stop will be mass.gov and MassHealth, I guess.

Since the providers were honest enough to state they were not trained or did not know exactly what to prescribe for him to help him with his daily, and constant ailments and frustrations. We were and are still very disappointed in this organization. I HIGHLY, would not recommend anyone going to this organization. Not even for a last resort. I'd rather spend my time at an ER. At least I would get the care my son so desperately needs. My experience with ethos care was not a positive one. Their words and false representations speak loudly through their actions.

More Than Words is a nonprofit bookstore that sells new and used books while supporting young…read morepeople ages 16-24 who are system-involved, including youth from foster care, court-involved backgrounds, housing insecurity, and more. The young people help run the store, learn job skills, and work toward personal and career goals--and it truly shows in the care and pride behind the space. The shop itself is small but mighty. I walked out with four excellent-condition used books (three of which had already been on my TBR list) and somehow also added two cookbooks because... no regrets. Everything was very affordable, and it felt good knowing my purchase was directly supporting youth in the local community. If you're near one of their locations (I believe there's another in the Boston area), I highly recommend stopping in or checking out their online storefront. I was looking for something to do for the holidays and stumbled across Little Brothers. During the holiday season there's an incredible outpouring of help so you've got to get in on the holiday volunteer work a few weeks in advance. While there's never a shortage of soup kitchens and shelters that need people Little Brothers does something a bit different. First of all they primarily only do work with the elderly. During the Thanksgiving holiday I decided I'd help out to bring meals for the elderly. When I got to their event location at Northeastern I sat through a quick orientation. I learned that their motto is "flowers before food". You're not just providing a hot meal to an elder you're sitting with them for a while and talking to someone who might not have anyone visiting them during the holidays. Sure the food is good but I got the sense that the socializing with them was just as important. After I finished people were lined up according to which neighborhood they wanted an elder from and someone provided me a name and a map. The Little Brothers coordinators were also excellent with providing exact directions to where I needed to go and understanding that I didn't have a car so the location had to be T accessible. My Thanksgivings was a bust as my elder had surprisingly went out for Thanksgiving. But I tried again during Christmas and gave a bit of my time to a very nice old Russian couple who couldn't go anywhere for the holidays. It was a pleasure having some tea and a chat with people who were very happy and grateful for some company. Do note that Little Brothers does have need for volunteers year round and not just the holidays but if you're in need of something different than the clique homeless soup kitchen then consider helping out here. You can do what I call 'Adopt an elder' where you make a yearly commitment to spend I think 2 hours a week with an elder. You can also volunteer to chauffeur a group of people to a community event and drive them back to their home at the end. There's many different ways you can help the elderly and Little Brothers is an organization that really cares about the work they do.

I've been serving holiday meals and gifts to their 'extended family' who stay at there homes either because they may have no family with whom to share holidays or are unable to leave their homes or choose to stay at home. I have met, visited and re-visited several elders in Boston and always gain a lot from them at each visit. It is a lot of fun to do these visits and stay in touch with them. Michelle gives an excellent description of the services offered by Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly and they have a very dynamic and informative web site. Sure, everyone is super friendly and their mission is A+ but for actually buying a bike here...it's a weird experience. I went in recently to get a bike for a kid (preferably used (and I specified this to the salesperson) and was immediately shown a $1200 new bike. After saying that it was too expensive, a (new) (and cheaper) bike was brought out to show the kid that was in a frame 2 sizes too small. We did a test ride, liked the bike, and then when going over more details of the bike, I noticed that the kid was already beyond the height range for the frame (XS frame). Fine. They bring out another size (M frame). We test ride that and it goes well but then a different employee says that THAT frame size was too small and to scale up to a L frame. I did not agree with this assessment. Inside the store, yet a third salesperson recommended we stay at the M, even with accounting for growth. We ended up buying the bike with an accessory that was to be installed upon purchase. We buy the bike, buy the accessory, they take the bike back to tune it up to leave the store. They take a long time to do that with a vague explanation about the rotors and the front brakes but that it was fixed. Awesome. We leave the store and are headed home but then I notice that the accessory wasn't installed. Back we go for another 10-15 minute wait and no real apology for not doing the work right in the first place. Years ago, I went to check out buying a bike (at the old location near Green St.) and the salesperson would only talk to me about single speed bikes even after specifying that I was only interested in a geared bike. Another time I went to pick up a pre-paid special ordered part and the floor salesperson didn't know how to find a special order in the store. I had seen this person on the floor before, so I knew it wasn't, like, their first day, week, or even month. I don't know. Everyone else seems to love this place and maybe I've just had continual bad luck here. 2 stars for everything about the store, the third star is for the mission and programming for kids.
