I would like you to avoid this company and I will not recommend to order from this company. I am first time buyer but not new to organic vegetables home delivery. I ordered first time from Abel & Cole and I received 50% of my 1st & 4th order, however there was another offer for £10 off the first 3 orders. For some reason the first offer was accepted and suddenly became not available when came to final charge. Later on the day of delivery I left clear instructions for driver to deliver to main property corridor (inside) and leave it in front of Flat 1 door. The driver left my four boxes on the street without noticing me or letting me know as I am first time buyer. On top of it my fruit box was not ready, so driver Bart decided to pack it to someone's else box with different name on the box and left it open on top of the rest of the boxes on the public street. When I contacted Abel & Cole about the delivery and missing items (eggs) the customer service contacted driver and he confirmed that he left the eggs there and that someone might help themselves to take them... I just could not believe this explanation and delivery style. I regularly order from Riverford and Milk&More but I did not have this kind of experience at all. They refunded the money at the end after my phone call, but all this looks to me very tricky from the discount codes "promotion" up to the delivery style. read more

I've been using Abel & Cole for 4 years as I decided to start a keto diet to manage my diabetes and didn't want to buy supermarket veg filled with sugar and chemicals. Their site is reasonably easy to use and you can buy individual items rather than a pre-set box or exclude certain items. They also offer some interesting meat, fish and larder items. However, they don't care at all about your custom. During covid, they dropped the option to exclude items or order individual items, and you could only order their pre-set boxes (filled with heavy starchy carb). More recently they have decided to only deliver to me before 7am and are refusing to change the time. I've had deliveries sent to my office between 9am and 1pm for 4 years, but since my 20-year-old secretary has left suddenly the driver can't come after 7am. All my items (including unrefrigerated milk) was left outside the building for 2 hrs, which I did not authorise. Their answer is to leave the box with a neighbour (this is a business park) or take my custom elsewhere...the excuse is that they care too much about their carbon footprint to return to a reasonable hour, which they managed to do for 4 years before (but don't care about collecting 3 weeks of boxes they are so proud to recycle.) Given they are one of the most expensive organic veg suppliers around, and that other sites like Eversfield and Riverford, are not only expanding their ranges but also offer much more flexible delivery, take your money elsewhere. Abel and Cole are a very nice company. They sell organic food and deliver for free. They promote and support local farmers. They encourage recycling and conscious living. I order a vegetable box which arrives at my door each week. Unlike sanitised, washed and prepared, cold storage veg you find in supermarkets, the carrots still have the green bit on top, potatoes show evidence of being pulled from the ground. There's no excess packaging. The website, from where you order, is descriptive and easy to use. You can set your likes and dislikes, order extra items on an individual basis and view what's on special and the weekly boxes. They also sell fish, meat, cheese, wines and general other organic groceries. Best of all I don't have to stand in horrible shopping queues. read more

I have the same experience as Eleanor. After being a faithful customer for a few years, earlier this year I started finding the quality had degraded: yoghurts didn't last, at least one fruit or vegetable on the box was rotting and indelible. After I stopped using their service, they started hassling me with phone calls. The last straw was when I recently started receiving random marketing rubbish from companies. After numerous phone calls and emails chasing down various companies over a period of 2 months, I found out that Abel & Cole had decided to sell my contact details to a marketing company Transactis, who sold it to Experian and who sold it on to random companies. This is despite: (a) I never agreed to allow my contact details to be passed on (I had opted out on my preferences); and (b) in any case their privacy policy states they would only pass it onto "carefully selected 3rd parties whose products or services you might be interested in". How does selling to random marketing companies fulfil this? Not withstanding the fact that I never agreed to this, they are in breach of their own privacy policies. The worst of it is that they ignored my emails until I posted on their Facebook account and I'm yet to receive a satisfactory response from them. I cannot believe their audacity. Don't sign up with them unless you want shoddy produce and your details to be sold to random companies. read more

A really great supplement to your regular grocery runs! Initially I signed up for the "small fruit and veg box" as I felt the supermarkets near me were sorely lacking in good, varied produce. Then I thought -- oh yes, organic eggs. Surely, I need those weekly. ...and milk. ...and bread. Juices? Sure. ...and pies, lasagnas and other quick from freezer to oven food. ...and I just ate a quiche, spinach, ellemental and tomato - divine. *setup was easy -- they deliver, obviously. I arranged to give them a key to the building door (they have a secure process) and they pop it right inside very early AM and are on their way. Never missed. *can skip weeks for holiday, etc. I once put it on hold for a month just because we needed a break and would be away for a bit. No big deal. *Automatic billing via debit card. Billed once your food hits your door. *Can amend the orders very easily each week. They email me on Mondays and I often add in a few things here and there depending on what we need/want for the week. Very flexible. *They recycle all of their own boxes, so I simply leave them out on Wednesday mornings for the driver to pick up from the following week. The fridge items come packed in UK wool and ice packs, also can be sent back to be reused. The company obviously values the earth! I'm particularly fond of their frozen foods (lasagna, pies, etc) especially for when we are in a crunch. I also like their pasties, quiches, etc. These seem to be my favorites. Of course the eggs and milk and such are all great. One thing about the fruit/veg -- is that because its not sprayed to high hell with pesticides, fresheners etc...you often need to plan to eat it within a few short days, otherwise risk spoiling. Also, it comes from the ground. Like real dirt in the UK. SO sometimes you need to wash/scrub a bit before eating. Normal behavior, but worth noting! Usually each week comes with a small bag of potatoes and onions as well, great complements to the many dishes and recipes they include. (i like this -- though I don't know about using recipes, I prefer to ruin everything I make!) Overall I'm pretty happy with this. Always a surprise, or something I wouldn't normally buy. I like all the stories about the farmers and growers, the recipes and information. Nice to support local -- even though I realize this is a pretty significant operation now. Bonus, it runs smoothly because of it... If you like fresh stuff arriving to your door -- I highly recommend! A bit pricey, but saves you from the Tesco-tsk-tsk of the world. read more

I L-O-V-E Abel and Cole! There is something wonderful about opening my door on Wednesday's and finding a box of fruit and veg! It's like someone left it there by magic! And when I open the box I find all sorts of delightful goodies to cook for the week! The fruit and veg box has resulted in much healthier eating on my part and more cooking I'm happy to say! And you can't beat the price, I would never get the same quantity or quality on a box of fruit and veg if I bought it at the grocer. Abel and Cole is wonderful and I highly recommend using their services. If you think it's a little bit silly that all of the vegetables in your life come wrapped in plastic from the far corners of the earth, sprayed in unnecessary chemicals, then Abel & Cole is worth a try. I like the element of surprise and the fact that they deliver in the morning before I'm even out of bed. I wish I could pick the date of my delivery, but that is not the end of the world. The "small" box is actually pretty big given that I spend most of my time going to restaurants. They include recipes with their delivieres, and the one I tried this weekend was oustanding. I love Abel & Cole! I get a weekly fruit and veg box, and it feels like Christmas every time, because it's always a little bit of a surprise (although you can take a peek on their website about what to expect if you don't like the element of surprise...). The produce is organic, fresh, seasonal and most of it is locally produced and comes at reasonable prices. It really encourages you to cook at home and try new things - and in case you worry about what to do with all those strange looking veggies, never fear, for there are always some recipes added to the box. So have fun experimenting! Plus: everything is delivered to your doorstep, even in snow and ice, so you don't have to go out and brave the cold yourself! I also like the fact that they take back and recycle their boxes and that there is no unnecessary packaging. In addition to veg and fruit you can order other products from their website, including cleaning products and other household items, as well as meat, fish, poultry and, best of all, vegan alternatives such as tofu, soy milk, etc. There are always some special offers as well, and occasionally you will receive a little surprise gift. The website is very easy to navigate; you can skip or amend orders as you please, and if there is anything you don't like, you can just add it to your list of "dislikes" and they'll give you something else instead. What a great service from a great company! Abel and Cole have a great selection of locally grown fruit, veg and meat offerings. We've ordered a wide range of food from them. Our delivery guy is always friendly and they tend to include a nice little gift from time to time, wether it be free box of orange juice or most recently, a full cooking book! The only issue I've ever had with them is that we don't always get around to eating all the fresh food before the next delivery, but that isn't there fault. read more

Abel and Cole are the by far the best company to buy food from. With the recent horse meat scandel being found in supermarket meats, its a bloody good job that I am with abel and cole. I have been a customer of theirs since 2012, tey started me with a cook book for free, little gifts for free in my weekly boxes and also recipies to go with the veg that I ordered. What a joy. The are charging me 99p for delievery charge, they send me order reminders, they refund any bad produce, and everytime I call up, the staff are just so helpful. I love it. I dont miss going to the shops for food, I love my extra spare time, I do all my ordering online. What a revlotionary way to get your food, and support local farmers. read more

While I love our local greengrocers there is something magical about receiving a weekly box of organic produce from Able and Cole. The quality of the fruit and veg boxes are excellent, and their website makes it easy to tailor your order to avoid all your obvious dislikes (beetroot anybody?). You can also easily amend orders for other essentials (e.g., eco-dishwashing liquid) which makes the weekly shopping experience a bit easier. They also seem to take environmental issues seriously; asking for you to return your boxes the next week for pick-up and using a minimum of packaging with each order. My only minor quibble is that it would be really cool if they had a vegetarian/vegan filter on their site, so we didn't have to wade through all the organic meat offers. Overall an excellent service and well-worth it if you are into organic food. read more

I am updating this review as I am quite impressed by Abel and Cole. I still think it is expensive but all the food that I've ordered from there has lasted a very long time. The quality and freshness is clearly very high - they are leaps and bounds ahead of Sainsburys where you are lucky to find veggies with a use-by date more than two days in advance. Kale and sprouts are a regular purchase going forward - they are well worth it. read more

Absolutely disastrous customer service! After a break of a number of years from Able & Cole I thought it time to revive my membership. Big mistake! Having specified my delivery circumstances, my requests were ignored and the delivery driver left my box outside of my flat. The box was stolen on this occasion and I received a refund. I had a very detailed conversation with Able and Cole's customer services representative and thought this matter would be resolved. On the second occasion the driver verbally assaulted the building concierge and left my box in the street. I plan to never use this company again. read more

Wonderful fruit and veg delivered every Friday - packed beautifully with ice around any fridged goods. The fruit and veg boxes are packed with very high quality produce all tasting beautiful. They sometimes put little treats in that you haven't asked for and recipe cards telling you what to do with the produce. They do a wide variety of other items including condiments, meat and fish, yoghurt; breads, even cleaning products. Wish they did dog food. All this for a delivery charge of 99p !!! Abel & Cole is fantastic value for money. Their products are top quality. I received some satsumas a couple of weeks ago and haven't experienced that aroma when I peeled one since I was a child when pesticides etc were not used, or even known about, it reminded me of Christmas when as a child we got an apple and an orange in our sack. I've been with Able&Cole for a couple of weeks now and can thoroughly recommend it - the fruit and veg is supertasty (the red peppers are probably the best I've ever eaten!), you get "forced" to eat a more diverse range of fruit and veg (I actually kind of got addicted to some vegs and fruits I've never even tried before, such as blood oranges and cabbage -can recommend not to edit the dislikes to early) and it feels great knowing that its better for the environment and the people who are involved (I think they've been voted a great place to work in). In terms of cost, although I would agree that it seems rather expensive at first compared to supermarket prices, I surprisingly noticed that I spend less or at least not more than before, (and I didn't even go to expensive supermarkets before, bought normal things from Tesco, Sainsburys etc.). I thought about it and think in my case its because I would normally buy much more fruit and veg than we could eat and buy an awful lot of other things that I don't really need but that are on offer, tempting to buy, etc. I now buy all fresh food from Abelandcole (including a large veg box, a medium fruit box, eggs, butter, dairy, meat etc.) and go to the supermarket once or twice a week to buy any addiitonal things I need (e.g. I always need to stock up on tomatoes, plus I buy pasta, rice etc. as I find these rather expensive on Abelandcole and don't feel I need these products organic). We're 3 people living off the box and I found the quantities perfect for that. It seems very little when you get it but so far its always been more than enough for the week (obviously when integrated in a dish, e.g. pasta with red pepper and zucchini). Something else I noticed is start we all started to appreciate the food much more - it is invariably more expensive and you don't get masses, also you know its been produced with so much "dedication". What I also really like is that I don't spend so much time in the supermarkets anymore - the meals are kind of dictated on what's in the box and if you don't know a recipe you can look one up on their fantastic recipe collection or on the internet, but you always guided by what's in the box - saves me a lot of time and money I find. I always order meat as well I find its prices comparable to supermarket-organic and the quality so far has been outstanding (as is the variety). The fish I find rather expensive and therefore haven't really bought much yet. read more

I have been Abel & Cole's customer over 8 years. It has been a delight to receive fresh organic vegetables and fruits at my door every week. I can feel the farmers & growers' efforts to grow them and the soil/trees where they are from when I pick each produce from the delivered boxes! We cannot go back to supermarkets any more and are not interested in picking up any "buy 2 for 1"! They deliver so many kinds of products as well. Our recommendations, apart from fresh vegetables, fruits and fish, are organic soya milk and yogurt. Since we changed from cows' milk to this soya milk, our family has not caught any serious cold! When my son was still small (15 months or so) and had a cold with lots of mucus, we happened to have no fresh cow milk. So I gave him soya milk, then all the mucus had gone over night! I could not believe it, but since then, we stopped cow milk :) read more

After being a faithful customer for 7yrs (despite encountering some of the problems listed by other reviewers such as produce not lasting more than a couple of days, the milk doesn't last 24hrs and small portions) Abel and Cole decided they weren't making enough money from me and started selling my details to every single random (and I mean random) catalogue company who were prepared to purchase my details. I had to endure 3 months of receiving catalogues and unsolicited mail daily while each time having to ring the company, ask them to take me off their mailing list and try to find out who my details were being sold by. Eventually I had to devote 6hrs of a precious day off on the phone sorting it out. Of course, it was a multinational (Experian), who bought my details from another multinational (Transactis), who bought them from Abel and Cole. This is despite my never permitting any company (Abel and Cole included) with my details to sell them on, and being registered on the mailing preference service. I emailed them to ask for an explanation and to ask them to remove my details from their website, and have yet to receive anything approaching an apology. Despite repeated requests to delete my details, I have since then received repeated emails attempting to tempt me back to their 'service'. It is this hassling and poor customer service that has finally driven me to post this notice in as many places as possible so that others might not have to put up with this. I have since started taking a box from Riverford, and have been impressed (4 months so far). read more
