The oat milk chai here was amazing! They also carry a really nice selection of specialty foods.

It's like Whole Foods! With the price tag to match!…read more You know how they refer to Whole Foods affectionately as 'Whole Paycheck?' Well, similarly -- As Nature Intended (me to be broke). I suppose. This mini-chain is very similar to my favored "The Grocery" up on Kingsland Road but I just so happen to be down by Spitalfields often enough that I've popped in to this market a few times for the (not-so) essentials. Let's face it, it's a bleak state of affairs down Commercial Street at Tesco Local. I can't even bring myself to go in there. The amount of plastic wrapping and pre-packaged foods just makes me want to barf, no joke. I just can't most of the time, I'd rather go anywhere else. So yes, while As Nature Intended is a bit pricier -- it's also a LOT nicer, has WAY better food things in it and if I want to pay 100 quid for a bag of (basically) snacks, so it shall be done. Sometimes one just wants to feel wholesome, right? Yes. Of particular interest here is their health and beauty section -- well stocked and comprehensive. They carry REN, which I adore and also full range of Wedela which I buy often for the little person in our house. The soups are great, and they have CO-YO (coconut milk yogurt) which is my favorite thing of 2015 thus far. Staff is friendly. You'll be broke but you'll be happy. Good organic food stuffs up in here.

I LOVE this shop it is probably my favourite on earth and as they say outside their shop "Wealth is…read morewell and truly health". It is fully stocked with healthy foods and goodies to help you get through the week and help you to feel like an amazing human being. To add the staff are super friendly and delightful whenever I visit, always displaying a smile on their face and asking if any help is required (it is always the small gestures that count). I can literally spend near to an hour browsing the nut butters, chocolate aisle and fruit pantry, and last but not least - they even provide a sink for you to wash your fruit and veg if you wish to consume it straight away. Also, if you are lucky you may be greeted with a sample of peanut butter or other tasty snack to help you through your shop. If you're a true foodie and health and fitness fiend like me, you'll fall in love with this place!

Its a strange choice of location for an organics and wholefood shop: after all, lower Clapton road,…read moreI'm told, is known as 'murder mile'. Why, and by whom exactly, is another matter. The point is that most Londoners don't expect areas as run down as this to boast much beyond a kebab joint and a couple of Turkish food & wine shops. Well Organic & Natural is sandwiched by one of each of these, but when you enter its easy to forget the environs outside. The shop has a nice wood-panelled interior and a selection of excellent organic baked bread by the door - I'd recommend the white bloomer. Then a good variety of fruit & veg is on display, although freshness and price is an issue. There's a good selection of cereals, Japanese food, a deli, leather sofas, free WiFi and outdoor decking and garden area. There's also sustainability-focused homewares and a good variety of shampoos and homeopathic healthcare. The owners could learn to smile a bit more, to reduce the prices a bit and, to take a little more notice of sell-by dates. Then again, the last time I dropped in to grab some bread, I was unexpectedly short and they let me off over 50p - and not for the first time either. So if you live close by, and want an alternative to the monotony of Tesco and the drudgery of the 'food & wines', try it out.

It's been around for several years (more than 5 I think) and long may it continue. If it ever closes down I will be sad for weeks and weeks. -Local independent business TICK -Healthy, fresh, filling (generous portion sizes), vegetable-y *tasty* food (all vegetarian) - perfect for post night out nutrition boost TICK -Sub £7 for a meal (w/out drink) TICK -Friendly, helpful service (lovely, lovely people work here - I once got lent an umbrella during a long torrential downpour, on the vague promise that I bring it back in the next week) TICK -No frowns when you ask for a tap water - instead, offered gladly! TICK -Sweet little garden area at the back - perfect for sunny days and taking your time with your meal perusing a weekend paper TICK The most popular option seems to be a warm main (usually vegetarian lasagne, moussaka or a stuffed pepper) with 3 salads (which could be mushrooms, greek salad, lentils, chickpea and spinach or a dozen other beautifully seasoned and sauced options) - the halloumi wrap is also worth a try. It really does seem a little out of place (there's a greasy kebab shop next door!) in Clapton, but I guess the area's changing and the market for that kind of food is growing. Good stuff too! The cafe sells health food bits and pieces, drinks and fresh bread so you can pick up some staples to take home. If the criteria I listed appeals to you, I would urge you to visit if you're nearby :) Let me know if you like it!
