I finally found a shoe repair place to give some of my favorite & vintage shoes some TLC - new soles, polish/shine & one pair of shoes getting reheeled. I thought I was clear on what I wanted when I dropped off my shoes, yet didn't receive what I anticipated at pick up. Especially on the polish/shine aspect & was told when I came back that was an additional service. Not much to do about it as you have to pay upfront. I didn't have the bandwidth to banter with the owner or dispute the charge with my credit card company due to the unsatisfactory & non-transparent services. Hence the 1 star for the un-finishing product at $90 & will not return here for further shoe repair needs. read more

A faithful, loyal customer has been lost for this business. After writing a 5 star review and a few years of good service, this relationship is now tarnished. The service kind of slowly, steadily started to decline with the new owner, Danny. He was keeping up with demand at first but life happened. I do not know any personal details or anything that may have happened, if anything happened at all, but there were several times that the store should have been opened but they were closed. I would call, and get no answer or call back. I let all of that go, fully understanding things happen. And Danny did recruit a friend/family member to help him in the business as he was away for several weeks. Below details where all bets were off. I dropped off a leather briefcase where the top portion of the bag was starting to separate from the reminder of the bag, needing restitching, glue, etc. It was still in tack, but starting to tear/come apart. I described the issue went over the bag to see if anything else was a problem per usual, received a ticket with an estimated pick up window and left the bag. It was trying to retrieve the bag that was the problem. I went a total of 4 times to pick up my bag, and there was always a problem. It was either not ready or could not be located. One person blamed the other stating, "...he was working on it.." I waited patiently as this was over the course of 2 months. It was estimated for pick up in 1 week. Showing up in person, led me to me leaving without my bag 4 times and with empty promises, making me do more work, like "...can you come back at 6pm?" I am here now and it should have been ready a month ago. Danny even promised me on the 3rd visit that, since he could not find my bag, that he would bring it to me, personally delivering to me since I was not too far away. He said he would text me around 5pm when he was on the way. I never received such text and he never came. 4th visit to retrieve my bag; they both were there (this is earlier this week by the way). Danny saw me, said hello as he was talking to another customer. I was friendly and polite. Mind you, I am not really upset at this point, a bit disappointed but still understanding. I just want my bag and in better condition than I brought it because that was the agreed upon arrangement. Danny took some kids out and quickly excited before servicing me but telling me that the other guy was there; not mentioning anything about the missed connection. The other guy stepped from behind the back wall with all bag news. My bag was not only not finished, but it was broken. The interior rod inside the handle piece to make it steady/sturdy to carry was broken into 2 pieces. That is not how I dropped it off. He then proceeded to state that it is how he found it, insinuating that I had broken it. I was A PAULED (intentional misspelling). I stayed calm, rather trying to figure this out. I am looking at the wooden rod; it is broken with splinters, like one would take a tree branch and snap it, not an even break but more torn with wood splinters. It looked as it was intentionally done. And I had to wonder for a second, did I cause that? But came to the conclusion that was impossible because I carried the bag in by the handle, per usual, and it was sturdy in the handle, meaning it was intact and not broken. This guy giving horrible customer service then proceeds to tell me that I need to go to a hardware store and find a replacement piece. Come again? Yup, he told me to go to the store and replace the piece and then he could fix it. I think that is when I started seeing red. Did this mf-er tell me to go get a piece that he broke, after blaming me for breaking it? Mind you, it is a custom piece that was cut, measured for this bag and had notches carved into it for hooking into the bag for sturdiness. You want me to do what? I then proceeded to let him have it. I stayed cool, because I am a cool guy, but I let him know he was completely in the wrong, rewind this interaction play by play from when I brought the bag, how many days I waited past when it should have been ready, how many times I had to take time out of my day to come up here, how I am a regular customer dropping off multiple pairs of shoes over the years, referring customers and writing a 5 star review. How dare you? At this point, he is trying to cut me off from talking as if trying not to hear it, or learn this lesson. Now he is trying to state that I am right, asking for MORE TIME with the bag. No! Run me all the pieces to it. He retrieves all the elements (handle, gold buckles, etc.). I add this to the experience letting him know that I brought it in as 1 piece, it's leaving in 10. Lastly, he kept repeating that he text me about the issue. We went through msgs, there was no such text. SMH. I may have paid in advance, I don't recall but it will be the last $ I spend there and I warn you all to proceed with caution. read more

My girlfriend twisted her ankle in her new heels and completely shredded the sides out. She wanted to throw them away but I decided to try this business first. Visited this shop three different times during business hours over a two-week period and shop was closed with no indication when someone would be back. Someone from the store next door said customers are always coming by and leaving as the store is hardly open. They were open on my fourth try but their price for just replacing new heel tips on women's shoe is absolutely ridiculous. read more

My first time going to Abernathy Shoe Repair. I brought a pair of Michael Kors boots that I hadn't worn in years because the heel of one boot was missing. I believe it was the owner, Mr. Chong Kim, who took care of me. I paid before hand. I expected a call when my boots were ready but I don't think I received any. So I showed up 2 weeks later frm the day I dropped them off (I was in no rush to pick them up. I figured 2 weeks was enough time for the job). I think Mr. Kim May have even shined my boots because they looked brand new. He explained that he had to shave down my boots a tad bit to make sure they were even, and that he put a men's heel at the bottom of both boots. I was very pleased with the job and service. He took care of both heels of my boots, being that only one needed tending to. I was very pleased and am very grateful for Mr. Kim's work. Very charismatic guy as well. read more

Terrible!!! I came in and was very straight forward that I only wanted to get them done if the soles would be in good condition. I would pay for them to be resoled if needed but understood that they were in rough shape. I come to pick them up and there is glue all over them! Then he says he just needs to clean them and proceeds to tear the leather! My favorite shoes are now worse than before and ruined beyond just a sole. read more

I've got several shoes that I love and need work done, so I finally decided to do some research and find a place near my job so I could drop them off and pick them up during my lunch break. This one had really good reviews, and was only about 10-15 minutes away, so I thought... why not. I had two pairs of shoes I wanted to have the soles fixed on. One was a pair of lace-up boots, and the other was a pair of brown oxford shoes. The boots are some I've worn all over the world, and in London they really grew some holes underneath. I tried to repair the oxford myself with some shoe glue that was made for that purpose, but the holes were just too big for that stuff to work. (This was stuff specifically touted for holes and shoe repair, I wasn't using Elmer's glue here.) The initial service was friendly enough when I came into the store. There were two gentlemen there, and they seemed pretty busy which is generally a good sign, so I dropped off my shoes and was told to come back x-amount of days. Since it was only a few days from then, it would have done perfectly for my trip that was in a few weeks. I come back on the indicated day, and the gentleman who owns the shop can't find either of my shoes. He picks up plastic-wrapped shoes on the drawer and tried to hand them to me. I blink at them in confusion, and he is surprised they are not my shoes. And yes, I still had the tag I was given when I dropped my shoes off, and the tag on the shoes matched it. Eventually my shoes were found in a plastic tub, underneath a bunch of other old, dusty shoes, after about half an hour. He tells me he'll get to them in x-amount of days again. Okay, it was pushing it towards my trip, but things happen, right? Well, I come back at that time indicated and the shop is closed. The owner was there, because he crossed in front of my, stoically ignoring me, to enter another of the shops on the strip. There's a clock out front, indicating he'll be back at such and such time. It is such and such time, and he is there, but the shop is still closed. After about 45 minutes after the time indicated on the sign when they would be back, he begrudgingly unlocks the door. Maybe he wanted me to leave? I'm not sure, but I really needed to pick those shoes up since it was now two weeks after the first time I dropped them off. My shoes were not ready. He mentions how the other guy who works there has diabetes and had to get a limb removed, and that's why my shoes aren't done... Because he typically does that kind of work. What?? I would genuinely be curious to know if this was true, because the gentleman working there clearly had some issues with communication, as evidenced by him not really seeming to understand a lot of what I said. At this point, I just asked if I could have the shoes back so I could get them done somewhere else. At this mention, he scrambled, and finally said that he would get to the shoes that day, so I come back... Again. For the third time, at the indicated time. The shoes do appear to be done, which makes me wonder if they could have been done in a few hours, why they weren't finished the first or second time? At any rate, I hand him my credit card, and he doesn't know what to do with it. He swipes it once, and then tells me that it didn't go through, and proceeds to hand me the entire machine, "you figure out." Once again... what?? He ends up swiping it again, whereas it does go through for the second time, and he has to go back and cancel it, but the whole time he's asking me what to do with it like I should know. Uhm, it's not my business... I don't know how to work your credit machines. I had to go across the street and get cash out because he couldn't figure out how to work the machine successfully. Ultimately, the experience was bizarre and there was a lot in the way of missed communication. The work on the shoes wasn't terribly good, either, since the rubber on it is peeling on the sides after only about a half dozen wears. He told me it wasn't going to be like the original, which was sewed in with matching stitching. It actually looks kind of weird, because he didn't remove the entire original backing, so there are parts of the black rubber, and parts of the original sewed in shoe still present on the bottom. At least they cleaned and shined the shoes, I guess? I still ended up paying full value, which, frankly after being told three times the shoes weren't done was kind of annoying. I wish they had just let me have my shoes back and I could have gone somewhere else. Perhaps my experience was uncommon, but there is some concern if someone who runs a business doesn't know how to catalog a credit card, and has issues speaking with customers. I won't be coming back, and I urge everyone to be careful when dropping their shoes off here. I'm not saying don't go, maybe they've since figured out how to work a card machine? Just maybe don't go here expecting the shoes to be done in a timely manner. read more

Fortunately I was able to find Abernathy shoe repair and he was able to fix it same day, just in time for the wedding and I was able to dance the night away with my beautiful girlfriend. HORRIBLE experience. Stopped in to get new heels and taps on my boots on Monday. I got a bad feeling when the store owner didn't acknowledge me, but greeted the man who walked in behind me. When the owner did speak to me, he looked at my boots and told me to throw them away. When I asked him why, he said he was only kidding. Hoping he might be a better cobbler than a humorist, I decided to leave my boots with him. The store owner agreed to have the boots ready by Tuesday afternoon. When I went to pick up the boots on Wednesday, the owner said he'd forgotten to repair my boots and asked me to return later that day. Given the poor start we had, I asked him to return my boots. If he had been any kind of businessman, he would have tried to make an effort to save me as a customer. I didn't feel valued as a potential customer and was so turned off by the way I was treated, I wasn't interested in any further contact with the establishment. The store seems to be busy, and I suppose his existing customers seem to be happy with him. This was my second visit to this shop, but the first time I'd left shoes for repair. Even though my current shoe repair shop is less convenient, I'm treated better and they honor their word with repair times. read more

The older reviews are no longer valid, as the older Asian gentleman seems to be the only one there, which is fine because he is a WIZARD. I took in some expensive Johnston & Murphy dress shoes that needed the refurb that J & M no longer offers, and a pair of J&M boat shoes that are wonderfully comfortable but poorly made. The dress shoes were like new, no fitting issues as can happen after an overhaul, but I was really impressed with his ability to resole and heel the boat shoes. The soles were prematurely detaching from some sort of plastic webbing that had failed to keep them on the uppers (looked like spaghetti) but he showed me some soles he had and I was OK with. They too were like new and just as comfortable as ever. Highly recommend ! read more

I love these guys! They do a great job and are super friendly. I've had caps replaced on heels, a zipper replaced on a pair of boots, and he's replaced the soles on a couple of pairs of shoes. They also sewed up some holes in my leather gloves for me. Beware - they do sometimes try to upsell (new soles w/ those heel caps?) but they aren't aggressive in any way. Welll....nice guys but pricey and not resourceful. They glued two pieces together on the inside of one shoe and snapped a grommet together on a hand bag. They charged $20! And they were not resourceful for two other fix its I had and they didn't seem to have enough selection of nice grommets. So the grommet button on my bag looks horrible. Then they couldn't put a grommet in a belt so they convinced me out of it. Very disappointing after I read the reviews. I'm going to keep looking. read more
