Hired Able Movers to do a combined move - move my 2 bedroom apartment and my girlfriend's 1 bedroom apartment into our first home. Both apartments were in Larry Uteck area and the house is in Middle Sackville. Movers showed up on time (even called a few minutes ahead to say they were on the way). So, after my disastrous move with Able Movers, which I reviewed before, the owners responded with a bunch of lies, saying I swore at their staff and that I was completely unreasonable. This was not true. I was going to let it go but I can't. I am pleased the owner has the backs of his employees but I don't appreciate the accusations. Once again- the bare bones details: Booked Able because I moved a lot and I like to move my custom around, share the wealth as it were. One of the movers saw a doorstop from my previous movers and immediately was offended. So, here's the the thing. I booked them for a small truck move. I explained the situation and location. They agreed to come with the correct truck for noon. I started calling them at 4 pm to ask why the truck wasn't there yet. The owner let all my calls go through to voice mail. At 5 pm they showed up with a huge moving truck, completely inappropriate for the tight quarters. I'm on the corner of two busy streets. No place to park so they all left and returned over an hour later with another big truck. I'd been told they had a smaller one they could use. Parking was still a problem, so we were discussing if they could park in front of the dry hydrant - I agreed to pay the ticket if they got one. While we were discussing, one of the movers saw a woman he knew, and they started heading over to Alderney landing for a coffee. At that point I did raise my voice to reach him, asking where he was going. He yelled back he was going to take a crap and that he didn't want to crap in my apartment. This was in the middle of Portland and Alderney drive. I have to admit that by this time I was losing it. I have MS and am disabled and the stress and long standing was exhausting me. The boss then called me to tell me his mover was offended and would no longer move me because "I sweared at him". I admit, I may have said 'where the hell are you going' but it was already 6 pm and absolutely nothing had been moved My son and I decided that was the end, being told off by the boss when the service was so impossible. We fired them at this point, my son rented a truck from Enterprise and we and my landlady (God bless her) moved us across the street. It took us until midnight and I had to rest for a week afterwards. They didn't even offer to carry things over. It was just across the street!!! I felt the one mover didn't like the look of the move after what was admittedly a long day and deliberately made it impossible. I found no support at all from the boss of Able Movers and to see his response to my previous review, he remains the same. He did not listen to my side of the story at all, and never responded to my phone calls- in fact only talked to me when he called me to tell me off for MY behaviour!!! Just to give you a perspective, I am 5' tall, 61, and disabled. They treated me horribly all day. I will never use these movers again and hope they change their attitude for others. read more

Second time using Able in past 2 yrs. Arrived on time and were very professional and ready to go. The two men Jeff and Matt were friendly, efficient and quick. They wrapped all furniture securely in moving blankets and we had no damages at all. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend. For the record if was a move from a 2 bedroom apartment building to another apartment about 10k away. It was a 5 hour move which is pretty good when you're dealing with elevators on both ends. After moving 4 times in the last year, I decided to hire a moving company for the sake of both my sanity and my back. As I'd never hired a moving company before, I was totally paranoid that they'd be a) lazy and soaking up the hourly rate, and b) careless and break all my stuff. Needless to say I was very, very happy when Able turned out to be neither of the above. On the contrary, they were courteous, professional, careful, and very cost effective. None of my stuff was broken, it all ended up where I wanted, and the two guys that did the move were nice and straightforward. I really appreciated that they asked me if it was ok if they got a coffee on the drive over to my new place - while of course it was ok, I thought it was courteous of them to acknowledge that they're on my dime until the move was over. If I was moving from the HRM to another city, I'd probably move myself because it would be quite a lot of money due to longer travel times, but for moving within the HRM I would most definitely use Able movers again. read more

They moved my 2 bedroom apartment to my new house that's about as far apart in HRM as you can be, and got it done in less than 4 hours... They even helped me put my couch in the dumpster out back. These guys were great! Matt,Jay and Jeff were very nice and so careful with my stuff. I had sold my house and needed great care in moving my furniture as to not touch walls, scuff paint, and the guys were so hyper aware it was great. We couldn't get my box spring down the stairs without doing damage to the walls so the improvised and put the box spring out the window! The guys worked so hard in the heat and at such a fast gentle pace that it was so much cheaper than i thought it was going to be! If i could give them 6 stars I would. We just finished a stress free move with Jeff and Patrick from Able movers. They were extremely professional, efficient and careful. The move involved switching furniture from one location to another, moving furniture from those two locations, and placing it into storage. Although not a big move, they handled it very efficiently and quickly. I can honestly say their help really took the stress out of what would have been a logistically difficult situation. They took great care with our furniture, wrapping it as needed, and properly lashing it down in their truck even though it was only a short distance move. Jeff, the owner, is very personable, helpful and friendly and, most importantly, he knows what he is doing. Their rates are very reasonable as well. As far as I'm concerned, moving is about one of the most stressful things you can do. I've never employed movers before, but I knew this time it would be well worth it. I contacted Jeff, he got back to me promptly, and we booked the move. His team, headed by Alex, were on time, and were friendly and polite. They even picked up on our pet bunny's name, and were calling her by name through the move, saying they couldn't drop anything on her cage. They finished within the quoted time, so certainly didn't drag their heels to charge extra, and were very accommodating. I discovered one issue after they left, and contacted Jeff both by email and phone. Not only did he get back to me within 24 hours (people are busy, if you can't give someone at least a day to get back to you, then you need to re-examine how you treat people)...but Jeff himself was in my home within 24 hrs to resolve the issue, because the crew he was originally going to send were running late. That is ownership. Do yourself a favour...when you read bad reviews, remember...people who are displeased are very vocal. People who are happy are less likely to take the time to express it. I used these moving services and had several furniture items broken (a large standing mirror, a desk and a dresser drawer). Also, the movers called and asked if they could start early but I was unavailable yet they still charged me for the time that I did not have them booked since they "were waiting". I called and complained and was told I would receive a cheque for the extra time and for the broken items and never did. I would not recommend them at all. read more

This was my first move using a moving company as opposed to doing it myself with the help of family and friends. After looking into several companies, I chose Able Movers because their prices were reasonable, they are a BBB (Better Business Bureau) accredited company, and their weekend minimum billed time was 2.5 hours (many other companies had a 4 hour minimum). The movers were friendly and did an excellent job of packing and moving our furniture. They brought with them moving blankets and a variety of tools in case furniture needed to be disassembled. The move was finished in even less time than they quoted in the over-the-phone estimate. I would definitely recommend Able Movers to a friend and use them again for my next move. read more

We contacted Able movers because we had a piece of furniture we wanted moved from downstairs to upstairs(14 steps). It's weighs about 300 lbs.(Too heavy for my husband and I). They charge 100 dollars an hour with a 3 hour min. We explained it would take 15 minutes at the most and were willing to pay 100 but it would still be 300 dollar charge. Keep in mind as well we live in Dartmouth not far from their office. They advertise this service(Large and heavy item moving) but obviously not wanting to to this service which is reflected in what they charge read more

I have moved about 5 times before always renting a huge U-Haul and asking strong friends to help and buying them food and drinks. It is so much work and still quite costly so I decided to try movers this time. We hired Able Movers as they were highly recommended from two other friends and neighbors. They charge $40/mover/hour needed with a minimum 2.5 hours moving charge. We choose 3 movers and we had done our own packing. We were downsizing from a 3 bdrm/3 level townhouse to a 3 bedroom condo so we had quite a bit of furniture/boxes to go. The movers arrived on time and they were professional and efficient. We were pulling out of our driveway in 2.5 hours and drove from Dartmouth to Larry Utek area. They arrived within 10 minutes after I arrived. They unloaded the truck and placed everything wherever I wanted the furniture/boxes to go. The total amount of time was 5.5 hours. I will never ever rent a U-Haul again!
