Due to some circumstances, we had to quickly move our stuff and some items within 3 weeks and was going to be a bit of a complex job (couple of pick up and drop off locations). We had some difficulty finding bookings since it was a very busy moving day (Aug 31), but Gentle Giant Movers had a free large truck and crew available so we got that booked. After their early arrival and assessment of the work (including any disassembly of large pieces of furniture or special wrapping needed) they got started with the work right away (we were lucky they were able to get here ahead of schedule!), they started with 2 crew members then ramped up to 3 more than halfway through to speed up the remainder of the work. The crew is friendly, professional and takes care of the items as if they are their own property, unlike experiences we've had with other movers in Halifax who have been careless, rude, and are impatient and have caused damage to our stuff, this crew is the exact opposite. They do a quick, smooth job, but careful and mindful of special items like televisions, paintings, antiques, etc.. They wrap everything that needs to be wrapped and disassembled/assemble things professionally. Also the truck size was perfect, was able to fit in two apartments' worth of stuff (more or less). We got a chance to meet Shelley and her husband as well, they are the friendliest business owners I've met in Atlantic Canada, and having been in the business for many many years, their experience shows with a well organized system and hiring professional crew members. On my most recent move, Shelley went out of her way to fit me in on short notice during the last week of June "moving madness" week. It was a late-afternoon slot and the crew was willing to work late into the evening to complete a difficult move (we didn't do a great packing job but they managed to get it done as quickly as possible anyway). They assembled a desk for me and are willing to assemble and disassemble all kinds of furniture, which is great. These guys were awesome! They were delayed a bit but let us know in advance and arrived right when they said they would. They worked diligently and didn't stop ever - I had to actually make them stop for a minute for a glass of water. Super awesome guys. Mike looks a little bit like Clay from "Sons of Anarchy" but is THE nicest guy in the world. They packed their truck efficiently, weren't stumped by anything we had to move ie. plant, stuff in a canvas bag, no worries. (sure they would have taken the cat too if we'd asked!). I have all good things to say about these guys! My original movers booked called 1 hour before and cancelled, I was devastated. I called Gentle Giant and they were fully booked as it was the busiest time(end of June) However they moved their schedule around a bit to accommodate me and got another crew out just to do my move!!! On the busiest moving day of the year, Rob called us to ask if he could come move us ahead of schedule. We weren't ready, but that didn't bother him. Rob and Mike were a little behind by the time our originally scheduled time rolled around but they kept us in the loop. We were their sixth move of the day, and we were moving out of the third floor. All stairs. And we had a hide-a-bed. These guys were not phased at all, and went right to work. Friendly and courteous the entire time. Rob called ahead of time to see if he could move me out, and it was great. They moved me out of university as well as taking my friend's boxes last minute. They were very nice, very efficient and we got everything out quickly and safely. They took care to make sure things were tied up and protected in the van so nothing would break. We received last minute notice that our mattresses had arrived and we needed a mover to get them from downtown Halifax to Bedford. Had a great experience with gentle giant. They did the work quickly and professionally and can pack and secure in their truck really well. We had plenty of room to spare in the 19' truck and no problem transporting mirrors, tv and paintings. They carried any tools needed to take apart furniture that didn't fit and dealt professionally with the curve ball of not being able to put an elevator on service.
