Deserving of my very first review on yelp is this fine establishment, Abners Barbershop. I have been to many barbershops in my day, and none of them compare to the brilliance of Abner. I was first told about Abner by my friend Jason and I've been coming here ever since. The one complaint about Abner is that he takes too long to cut hair. I agree that he does take long, however he takes so much time because of the perfection he provides when giving haircuts. I recommend getting to Abners as early as possible or else the wait will be long. Another thing that I love about Abner is the fact that he's old fashioned. After you get you're great haircut, you're treated to a close shave and a shoulder massage. I recommended Abner to a lot of people and they absolutely love him, including my dad. My dad is always disappointed with his haircuts from other barbers until he went to Abners shop yesterday. He received the best haircut he's ever gotten and now he will be returning to Abner many more times. Finally the other wonderful thing about Abner is that he gives these wonderful haircuts and only charges $12. Other barbers I've been to in the past would charge me $25 for a below-average haircut. Okay, so I went here on Wednesday based on recommendation from a friend, at around 11. Got there and there was one person ahead of me so I sat down and waited... an hour. The lady there seems nice, but takes her sweet time with things. I felt bad for the guy she was giving a cut to because she was on the phone a majority of the time. Anyways, when it was finally my turn and I asked for a high-fade, comb over with a part. SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A FADE OR A COMB OVER WAS. She straight up asked how to do a comb over and "fade." So I had to try to explain this to her and she just nodded and did whatever. At the end of it she didn't even give me a part, or a proper fade, AND she cut the top of my hair shorted than I wanted. I don't agree with everyone else saying she can do fades. The only thing I liked about the cut was she did the line-up and sideburns with a straight razor so it was close, detailed lines and that it was $12. I think other reviewers might be a little biased in the reviews because it's a nice older couple giving hair cuts, but for me, not the type of hair cut I was looking for. read more

I was driving by and spied this place - in need of a haircut I decided to park and give it a try. This barber shop is definitely no frills and old school - Abner was friendly telling jokes although some were not very politically correct but he comes from a different era so if you are easily offended you might be better off going to super cuts. read more

Cost: $12 I normally don't go out to cut my hair because of the cost. But for $12, an elderly woman (some posts say a guy cut their hair) did a splendid job for a typical buzz cut. I just wanted a 3 all around, but she went above and beyond, showing me she knew how to give a fade and lines. I'm impressed and happy I came hair to get it buzzed. Another comment says it's a great place for dudes to get their hair cut and I'd have to agree! Not to mention, I got a free massage and shave. I don't think that was included in the $12 but the lady was nice to do it for me. I get my haircut here regularly. It's ran by an elderly couple. Abner used to do the hair cuts but he got sick so his wife took over the hair cutting duties. I was first kinda skeptical about letting a woman cut my hair (had bad experience) but I think she might be even better than her husband. The wait is long if you go on Fridays and Saturday. I suggest going here on a Tuesday or Wednesday. They usually offer you snacks or coffee. $12 dollars for a hair cut. They still use the classic razor blade to clean up the edges. Also gives a mini massage with some kinda of machine they attach to their hands. I selfishly don't even want to give a review because I don't want more people coming here but they're great people who does great haircuts. read more

He's the best barber (in my opinion) some barbers are they just half ass everything, but with abner he takes his time and looks into detail, just let him know what you want and he'll do the rest. he enjoys good conversation too! My dad needed a last minute haircut so we decided to try this barber shop my boyfriend told me about. When my dad and I walked in, we immediately felt a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere from Abner. The shop is small and old school with one barber shop chair, a row of seats for waiting customers, and old-fashioned photos of various haircuts hanging on the walls. Though Abner was already busy with a customer, we only waited about 20-25 minutes. Daly City locals and the mailman seemed to know Abner very well, waving and greeting him as they passed by the shop. When Abner began to work on my dad's cut, he first made sure that my dad was happy with the length of the cut. He also seemed to keep a funny conversation going with my dad the entire time! Although he missed a few long hairs on the top of my dad's head, my dad loved his cut and complimentary shoulder and neck massage. Plus, it was only $12! This review pains me to write. I really like the owner - he's a kind, older man who has a lot of interesting stories - but he didn't do a good job cutting my hair. He ignored some of my requests and, later on, I discovered that my cut was incredibly uneven. It's only $15, but I'd rather pay more and not have to wait a week for my hair to grow out to start looking normal again. Look elsewhere. read more

My good old barber shop, once in a while I'll return. Abner runs the shop alone so depending on what time you'll go you may have to wait. Best days are of course weekdays. He's a great person to socialize with and is willing to share stories with you of his time in the Philippines. He's great with the blade so don't feel intimidated when he whips it out. He does good fades. Lineups are good too. At the end of your cut, he'll massage your neck and upper back with this machine has has... you'll feel rejuvenated right after. I wanna give 5 stars for taking her time. But only 2 stars for refusing to fix what I didn't like. I wanted my side to be high fade. She cut low low fade. So I asked her to fix it. She refused. N another thing scares me to come here is that she uses the same knife to shave the side to everyone. If she cuts someone who has dieases such hiv or hep c, the diease can be spread from the knife. let me tell you how i discovered this place. i know this fedex delivery guy at work...i asked him where he gets his haircut. i swear he told me abner's at the top of the hill...so i gave it some thought and heck why not.. as soon as i got off work yesterday i went to get some gas for my vehicle and off i go...i yelped abner's barber shop for the address. i arrived at 245pm and i didn't get my cut until about an hour later. abner is a one man show there so you have to expect to wait. when my turn came up, he asked what i wanted. i told him zero on the sides and back and then he went to work...during the haircut session, i found out that he had retired back in the early 90's. he does haircut as a hobby. i have to really give it up to abner though cuz most old timers would just sit around and do nothing. he on the other hand wants to stay "active". 20 mins later my haircut is done, i'm satisfied. to sum it up, my first time experience at abner's is A+. if i could give him more than 5 stars, i would. i just wished that someone would have reccommend this shop to me earlier. 12 buckaroos for a good chat, good haircut! read more

Classic neighborhood barber shop. Got a quality regulation high and tight during my lunch break on a weekday. Didn't wait long to get served and the gentleman still apologized. Had a pleasant conversation while getting dapped up. He took his time and made sure I was happy with the result. Finished with a back massage - holy cow that felt good! All for $12?! Left a good tip. The small space, the smell of hair gel, and the warm atmosphere was just as we remembered it .This place is great! Read good reviews for this barbershop and wanted to try out a traditional barbershop as well after mostly going to cheaper salons all my life. Abner himself doesn't cut hair anymore; he stated that his legs give up at times and that he doesn't want to risk harming customers while cutting hair. However his wife did a great job and really takes her time as well. She is very meticulous and makes sure she's cut every strand of hair. I have no complaints about the haircut I got. The finish with the straight blade and shoulder/neck massage is a nice touch as well, and adds to the traditional barbershop setting. One thing to note is that because she does take her time with each customer, be ready to set aside at least an hour if you plan to go here. Best haircut experience I have ever had. Unpretentious, no-frills shop. Precision hair cut, that he finishes with a straight razor on the neck. No one has ever done that. If you have a buzz cut like me he will vacumm your head!!!! That is so nice, so you are not so itchy with trimmings all over the place. Finally you get an electric shoulder massage. This was THE place to get your haircut when the guy was cutting hair. It is now a woman (his wife?), but she is no where near as good as his cuts. I don't get fades or buzz cuts (maybe she's good at that), but I leave my hair grown out about 3 or 4 inches, and only need and inch or two taken off when I go. First time I let her do it, I wasn't very satisfied. She seemed to just rush my cut to move on to the next person, and it showed in her cut when I had hairs that were the same length as when I came in. Went back a second time hoping for the guy, it was the woman, I let her do it again, and was again disappointed. Parts of my hair were left uncut, and others too short for my liking. Went back today praying for the guy, looked into the window, saw it was the lady, and walked away. I'm very sad that I have to find a different barber now. He was one of the best haircuts I had ever had. I knew from the first time it would last too long (I think it maybe his age that got to him, and I understand and respect that). It was great while it lasted. I'm not sure where I will find another place like Abner's, I never will, because Abner's was so great. If he works certain days or hours I would love to know, but it seems like it is always the lady now. read more

I found Abners on this wonderful site and i must say he does occasionally have a long wait. But it is really worth it. He is a great guy that loves to have a conversation and a couple laughs with his clients. He is excellent with his razor and his scissors. Cut is always the same and never changes which i like, and the fade is just as good as some places that charge 25 a cut. i have been his customer for the last 2 years and i dont see myself looking for another barber unless he retires again. read more
