The Kennelly Keys Music on 196th Street Southwest in Lynnwood was our second go-to Kennelly Keys…read morewhen I was growing up. We were required in elementary school to take part in the school band or orchestra for 5th grade with 6th grade optional (I took part both full academic years: 2002 to 2004), so with an older sibling and me, my parents were looking for reliable music stores. There was a Kennelly Keys close to the house, as well as this Kennelly Keys, that we habitually frequented. This was our destination for questions needing further answering and products not available closer to the house. Workers were friendly and the store well organized. When choosing my musical instrument for band, I decided I wanted to play the alto saxophone. My parents were okay with my choice so long as it was not as pricey as my sister's cello. On one of our visits to this location, the store was having a big sale on used instruments and they had a working alto saxophone available for a good deal. So, I got my first alto saxophone that day. I used it for both years and held on to it for a while before eventually parting with it. It worked well and served its purpose reliably.

Repair good, customer service, poor…read more I recently took in a vintage saxophone for repair, clearly stating that I just wanted the instrument made playable. The repair tech indicated that it needed some pads and adjustments for around $400, and I agreed. When I got the sax back the repair work looked good, but the neck cork hadn't been replaced. It was necessary to push the mouthpiece all the way in to get a decent seal, at which point the intonation was ruined. This was definitely not the "playable condition" that I requested. I went back to Kennelly Keys, and stated that I was within their 30-day repair warranty window, and wanted the neck cork fixed as well. The salesclerk told me that the warranty only covered the work performed, and that I'd need to spend another $50 for the neck cork repair. To me this was exactly like taking in your car for repair, getting charged for the work, then upon discovering that the car still didn't run right, being expected to pay still more to make it right. Having come back with a new, slightly different mouthpiece, I agreed to extra cost to get everything right. The neck was recorked and the sax is now playable and tunable. When I then picked up the sax I explained the circumstances in detail to the manager on-site, stating that I wasn't satisfied with the original repair, in that it failed to deliver what I'd requested ... a playable instrument. She was quite receptive (unlike the clerk from the time before), and said that she'd contact the regular manager (I was there on a Saturday), and that someone would contact me the following week to discuss the (reasonable!) possibility of providing some discount for the repair work cost. Unsurprisingly, I received no such call. My takeaway is that while profitability is important, KK decided that having the money was more important than having a satisfied customer. I'd been a patron of KK in Lynnwood for years, but will now be going elsewhere for all future purchases and repair needs.

Her organization, thorough methods and clear homework sheets impressed me very much. She has the student work on theory, ear training, composition as well as learning new pieces and scales. Love her program and would recommend her instruction to anyone who wants to learn well. My son's piano skills have skyrocketed in just 2 months. Skype lessons were much better than I had expected. I was tentative at first because it felt like piano lessons should be live, but we purchased a good quality microphone and set up the laptop so she can see the student. Not only does she coordinate live recitals throughout the year, she holds group classes and professional testing which can be taken at a location near you. Last month, through Skype, we even participated in a special group lesson with her other students! Don't let distance stop you! This is much better than a YouTube video! Personally tailored, and also able to teach ADHD kids.

July 31, 2025 I'm…read moregratefully completing my first year of violin at Snohomish County Music School, as an adult student being taught by the director, Ms. Kathryn Kibbe and look forward to continuing for many years. It's never too late, or too early. Ms. Kibbe and her staff are unfailingly gracious, gifted at and clearly enjoy teaching music. Ms. Kibbe's sincere interest and delight in teaching is refreshing. She is a gifted musician, inspiring her students with demonstrations of beautiful violin and viola music, good humor and productive instruction. Her knowledge, teaching ability, sincere kindness, patience, insight and interest in each student are only surpassed by her love of children, commitment to their development and her ability to encourage and gift the joy of music. The new offices of Snohomish County Music School are fresh, clean, comfortable, safe, welcoming and conveniently located close to the Everett COSTCO. I am both impressed and very grateful to Snohomish County Music School and especially to Ms. Kibbe for the first of many enriching years of violin. Mark Potampa, M.D.

Not an old ladies house teaching old school tunes with no advancement, or a fancy place that charges you an arm and a leg for lessons. Mila teaches out of a super cute studio, she is so kind and patient and actually expresses a genuine interest in your learning. I really like that she has an educational university level background in Piano and Music and doesn't just teach you piano songs back to back. (Like the teachers I had growing up). She delves into music theory, history, composition, form, sight reading, ear training etc. it really makes the learning effective and long term. She continuously updates her curriculums to new techniques and keeps up with modern pieces. She even offers educational music group classes for toddlers while also ranging to adult students. She is very organized has great communication, not sure what the other review was talking about, they probably just didn't read her payment setup which is super easy and convenient. She stays up to date with all of her students and will always answer questions about her policies. I have learned so much from Mila, she is an incredible piano teacher.
