After 4 months of lessons I reached out to him to let him know of our timeline for ending lessons. We were stopping when my son started Jazz band at his middle school. The response I received had some information that was out of the blue - that my son was struggling with focus in lessons and playing over him and too loudly. I had never been told any of this feedback previously, so this was a surprise to me. I talked to my son about the feedback and his next lesson was good, however, Randy would not even come out of the room to see me. The next week we showed up for lessons and 10 minutes in I heard Randy yelling in the room, the door opened and Randy was kicking my son out of lessons and yelling at him about playing when he was talking and playing too loudly. He then yelled at him, that if he could listen they could finish the lesson. My son who was visible shaken went back in. I was frozen and didn't know what to do. The lesson finished, Randy came back out and I confronted him about his inappropriate reaction to the situation. I received an extremely defensive response about boundaries and after some back and forth was told if I was not okay with they way he spoke to my son, then he couldn't teach him anymore and we were done after next weeks lesson. We left the store at this point. I went home and sent him an email about the interaction and how it was inappropriate and that we would not be coming to the last lesson. I did not get any acknowledgement to how he was wrong to speak to a child in that way. I pointed out that if there was as big of a problem as he was claiming, he needed to talk to me in person after lessons about any issues rather than bottling his frustrations up and out-bursting like a toddler. He blamed the whole situation on my parenting abilities and told me what my child needed from a medical perspective. He is an emotionally insecure person who cannot control his temper or admit when he has done something inappropriate. We will never go back to him as an instructor and I suggest you avoid him at all costs.

Guitars I've looked at were priced competitively and ranged from beginner instruments to high-end Taylors, Gibsons and the like. I brought my Taylor in for service and was really pleased with the cost, turnaround and quality. These guys clearly know what they're doing, and that's a rare treasure these days. In an age when brick-and-mortar stores are being choked out by online conglomerates and franchises, Helmer's obvious competitive advantage is that you can walk in and get expertise, quality products and service, and the ability to see, touch and hear before you buy.

We have been taking our 3 sons to Rick for 2 years now, after having at least 3 different guitar…read moreteachers. My only regret is that we did not start going to him sooner! He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and always comes to our lessons prepared - often having to go hunt down some music or research some far out question one of my boys has asked. Each of my boys has different tastes in music and different ways that they learn, and Rick readily adapts to to their likes and learning styles. He easily switches back and forth between the son who plays by reading music and the two who prefer tab. If they want to journey into the depths of music theory, he teaches them that too. He encourages them when they need it and pushes them to be better. He makes sure the son who just does it for fun is moving along and having fun, and works at an accelerated rate with the one who is obsessed and eats and sleeps guitar. He tries to get them to branch out and stay well-rounded as guitar players. Every minute of our lessons is used (which is a god-send after having one teacher who spent the majority of each lesson talking about himself or sitting on his computer finding the music for whatever they wanted to learn). I cannot recommend Rick enough!

Found something on clearance with a price sticker that said $1 on it. I know it's just $1 more, but it's still 100% more than it was priced. I don't feel very comfortable shopping there if the price stickers aren't correct.

Never going to deal with them again, they said my account is rent to rent, not rent to own, and i stated this account over 3 years ago and i know picked rent to own, and they didnt even ask me that question because we originally returned it then went back to rent it again, and the second time they didnt even ask me and they are saying i cant use my $1660 dollars towards purchasing a cello, when they keep sayin i can use that money towards a new cello..... they dont know what they are talking about and they keep hiding behind eachother its disgusting.
