i called martin for a repair estimate he was one of the contractors I called as I was getting multiple bids as a informed customer should do. I explained that I had 2 others out there and what there diagnosis was. each contractor told me different things as to what was wrong with it. which was why I needed a third bid. Martin said he that I had too many people come to look at my unit and that he didn't want to be jerked around. So he canceled my appointment I had with him. Our place is old and a central a/c unit would not work so our only option was a mini split. I called Martin at "Above the Grade" at 10:15am on 7/30/2020 and left a message regarding my non working AC Unit. Within 10 minutes he called me back, said he was on a job and when he was through with that job he could fit me in before his next job and he'd be here by 10:45. True to his word, Martin showed up promptly at 10:40 and I didn't even have to ask him to put on a mask. After checking out my AC unit he gave me a couple of choices and an estimate for each as well as when each could be accomplished. I chose to get a new AC Unit so I could start out with a brand new 10 year warranty. He said he could get the unit right away and would install 7/31/2020. We set up an appointment of 9:00am. At 9:00am he arrived, began evacuating the system and clearing the lines, he then neatly and conservatively removed the shrubbery obstructing removal of my old unit. By then the new unit arrived on a truck and Martin installed it and checked everything out by 12:30pm he was completely done, everything cleaned up and we had paid him. I'm very happy with above the grade. Martin responded very quickly to our request. He always wore a mask. He's very pleasant and courteous. His pricing is very reasonable. We had to have our roof replaced at the same time and he was very good about working with the roofer to coordinate that. When we called on him for the job I didn't realize that the heater/a/c base curb needed to be placed after the roof was removed and before the new roof was placed so we needed him right away to begin the job. Martin went out of his way to help us with that. There wasn't time to get a crane to remove the old furnace so he went up there and dismantled it and took it away by himself!! That was way over and above in my opinion. I'm very happy with our new heat/air unit. I highly recommend above the grade for your heating/air needs!! read more

We had Above the Grade our to our house two different times. Once to clean and repair our dirty AC, and then once to tune up our heater. Very professional and helpful and I never felt like I was being charged too much.. we had first called Smart 72 because they were the ones who installed it and slapped a "call us for repairs" sticker on it. They wanted to charge us $1,200 to fix the AC unit, we were really worried this would take a bite out of our pocket book. So we called Above the grade, we were given an estimate of about 1/5th the price of the other guys. Our technician worked hard and answered all of our questions. AC works great and so does the heater. Great work! Don't waste your time with Smart 72. read more

Martin responded to my message here on yelp almost as soon as I hit send. He said he could be out within the hour. Unfortunately I was working in slo and wasn't off until 2. (10am was the time I messaged) Martin stated that he could accommodate the time for me he showed up at 2 and by 230 my air was blowing cold again. He opened the side of my unit and immediately saw the bulging capacitor and knew right away. A couple wires a couple screws and it was fixed. All this for only 173.00.
