I'm a lumpiaholic. Actually, scratch that. I'm a wrapaholic. Give me a simple wrap (lumpia wrapper, taco, tortilla, pita, etc.) filled witn meat and vegetables and drizzled with a bit of sauce or dressing, and voila! I'm one happy girl. Just read through my reviews here and you'll find me raving about shawarma, fresh lumpia, lumpiang shanghai, and crepe, among others!)
It's no surprise, then, that I immediately gravitated towards Aboy's Fresh Lumpia's stalls when I spotted it during a trip to the grocery with my sister. The filling of the lumpia is, amazingly, just finely chopped carrots, turnips, and cabbage, steamed, with a leaf of lettuce for garnish. But what makes it extraordinary is the special egg wrapper (which costs Php 5 or Php 10 more than the regular wrapper, but totally worth it, trust me). The texture of the wrapper is almost like crepe, softer than the usual lumpia wrapper, and more flavorful.
If, like me, you enjoy a slight kick of spice, request that minced garlic be sprinkled atop the sweet sauce, along with the chopped peanuts. It'll give you garlic breath for the rest of the day, though. You've been warned! read more
