A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. UNPROFESSIONAL. I explain that I have an issue with my security system. I tell him the make model and year. This man at the front desk told me to bring my car down to the shop for service. He asked me specifically if I would have the car towed to the location. I told him yes. He says bring the car n the morning. In the morning i pay to have the car brought to the shop and ge tells me to put the car in front of the store. Just as driver is lowering the car he says hold on, he goes inside and comes back out to tell me he cant service my car. Then he actually began to argue with me as he walks back inside. La Mesa recommended this business. I needed to have a spare key made for my RV. I drove 30 minutes to the shop after talking to Richard. He was a jerk, with an abrupt demeanor. He made me two keys that appeared too large compared to the original. Even the cashier agreed and had him look at them. His reply was " it's probably just tricking your eyes. Maybe they'll work, maybe they won't. You might just have to take the RV here". Meanwhile, there were 2 business vans and a trailer in the parking lot. Clearly, he offers mobile service. There's NO WAY I would give this guy my business again, even if he hadn't told me "that's the closest key he has" to it. I work for a law firm who represents multiple clients in foreclosure and/or wishing to short sale their home. Often we need a reliable locksmith to go out to these properties, when they are vacant, and re-key the property and place a lock box for Realtor showings. I have commissioned A Abra Key Dabra for three properties now, and each one has been done timely and satisfactory. The one issue I had with them, involved the technician failing to read my email and rekeying five doors instead of one. I went in to get a spare clicker and key for my car. $159 price was very fair compared to Cadillac dealership. It took about 45 minutes and I was on my way. They work great. My father also got spare sets for his Corvette, and it was about $125. His was a special order and it took about a week for his clicker to arrive. read more

It took 3 trips to get a key "pinned" (cut from a cylinder) it cost $40. This is from a place that advertises "24/7", mind you. Then the guy wanted me to leave it and they would "call me"! I wasn't pushy but when I told him I'd take it elsewhere he relented but complained the entire way to and from the work area. Exactly 9 minutes later, my key was cut and I wished him to "have a nice lunch" which he'd complained about not having. Got a key replaced for my girlfriends car and the locksmith obvious didn't know that the system required two keys to be programmed and the he immobilized the car. I took it to the dealership and they are saying that I have to replace the computer and the immobilizer. They Are having trouble finding the part because its a 2001 Mazda 626 so we are without a car. I was interested in replacing my balcony door lock. It's a typical lock with a latch that pulls shut into a catch. Initially I called a guy I found in the Apopka newletter. He was kind enough to say the lock would only cost $11 or so at Home Depot and that they are typically cheap. He suggested I do it myself otherwise he would charge $65 plus $25 on site. He said he did not want to take my money but did recommend Abracadabra Locksmith in Apopka since they offer a broad line of security options. I reached out to Abracadabra Locksmith in Apopka, FL yesterday. I asked what the cost would be to replace the simple lock in my patio door and they quoted $10 service on site fee plus $35. I thought wow that's awesome so I mentioned that I would like to review additional security ideas to secure the door more. They were very responsive. I had a contractor call immediately. I shared photos of the lock so he knew exactly the type of patio lock to replace. It was a typical builder lock that unscrews out the balcony door to replace. I decided to hire someone simply because I am not a handy person nor a drill person and the catch needed to be replaced as well. For that reason, I was ok with paying for this service. The contractor showed up within a hour. He quickly replaced the door lock and catch. The initial guy was right. It was simple. I asked about additional security and he suggested drilling a hole in the door and putting a pin in it similar to apartment security. I agreed and told him to do the same for my other balcony door. The cost? $165. I was not happy. I immediately thought of the guy that I first called and wished I had given him my hard earned money. The worst was yet to come. After writing up the receipt the contractor asked if I was paying via credit card or cash. Of course I did not have the cash available so I said credit card. He said the company will add an additional $20 to the cost for the use of a credit card. I said "are you kidding me". I understand that a small business wants to cover the nominal 2%-4% transaction credit card cost. I have a doctor's office that does this each time. They call and remind me of a credit card charge of 3% added if I chose to pay by credit card. No company charges $20 for using a credit card not even an international company would do. I felt so ripped off. Prior to this I was considering the contractor for hire to replace my front door lock. My guess is this company feels it can apply this practice because its a locksmith and considers an on-site lock replacement as an emergency. I was in no rush. I did not need the service immediately. Not only did this company lie about the service fee which they quoted as $15 not $10 but for 2 more pins to come to $165 is definitely a far stretch from the original $35 quote. The credit card scam is just criminal. I would not do business with them again. read more
